"That reminded me," Lena said softly, her eyes scanning the living room as though expecting someone to appear. "I haven't seen Kayden since I arrived here. Where is he?"
Thaddeus leaned back slightly, his tone calm but purposeful. "Kayden's not around. He went to his friend's place to study."
Lena's lips curved into a small smile. "Oh, good. You seem… kinda close with him, you know…"
Before she could finish, Thaddeus cut her off, his voice firm but not unkind. "Yes, I'm close with Kayden. He's more like a son to me."
The way he said it left little room for interpretation, and Lena pressed her lips together, nodding. "Okay…"
Thaddeus shifted his gaze fully to her, his expression unreadable. "You should call Ryland and let him know we're in an official relationship now."
Lena held his eyes, then gave a slow nod. "You have nothing to worry about. I've already given you my word."
