Thaddeus didn't flinch. He stood slowly, letting out a quiet breath. "I didn't make him stay," he said, his voice steady but low. "He couldn't go."
Rassel's brows drew together. "What do you mean he couldn't go? He was ready this morning before I left for work..."
Thaddeus raised a hand, cutting her off gently. "Rassel… he couldn't just go. Try and understand me."
Luke, standing nearby, glanced in their direction but kept his eyes down, wisely minding his own business.
"He's here to study, and yes, his education comes first," Thaddeus continued. "But you know how brilliant Kayden is. Missing one class isn't going to ruin him. And… he's leaving in two days."
He motioned for her to follow him. Once they were far enough from curious ears, he stopped and turned to her fully.
