Chapter 17 - The One Who Remembers

"She was not jealous of the one he touched.

She was jealous of the part of him that forgot."

---

Location: Moonveil Lake – The Night After the Fourth Seal

The lake had stilled. The air, no longer humming with Qi, now breathed in quiet shivers.

Long Tian sat beneath a withered tree, robe loose at the chest, his gaze fixed on the stars. Wu Jiao had long since gone — leaving behind warmth, memory, and a thread of guilt he couldn't name.

But something in the wind had changed.

Not cold. Not heat.

Memory.

---

Elsewhere — A Mountain Splits

From the cracked stone of Mount Whisperthorn, a woman walked barefoot down the broken steps.

Her hair: the color of deep dusk.

Her eyes: storming red, but veiled with mourning.

Her Qi: vibrating on the edge of violent harmony.

Around her, petals fell — not from trees, but from the seal etched on her navel, glowing faintly in golden rhythm.

Each step she took, the Sutra pulsed in Long Tian's core.

---

Long Tian's Body Tenses

A strange pressure built inside him.

Familiar.

Yet distant.

Like someone calling his name from a dream he'd once begged to forget.

He stood slowly.

And then — she arrived.

---

Scene: Their Eyes Meet

She appeared not with force, but with finality.

As though the world had been waiting for her to return to him.

Lian Fei.

She wore no ornament.

No sect robe.

Just a dark wrap of silk over her chest, and a soul that refused to bow.

"So it was her," she said, voice low.

"You awakened the Sutra with another… before you remembered me."

He narrowed his eyes.

"Who—?"

"Don't pretend," she snapped, stepping closer.

"You held me once. Not as a man… but as a child who didn't know why his touch healed me."

"I knew. Even then."

---

Flashback (Buried Memory)

> A snowy night.

A fevered girl.

A boy with trembling hands pushing Qi into her broken meridians.

Her lips turning red again.

Her eyes opening… and watching him walk away, never to look back.

That boy was Long Tian.

That girl—Lian Fei.

She had never forgotten.

---

The Sutra Reacts

Inside him, the Sutra trembled.

A symbol — matching the one on her — flared briefly on his spine.

"You…" he whispered.

"You're connected to the Sutra?"

"I'm not connected. I am part of it," she hissed.

"A fragment of your soul was sealed in me when the Sutra chose you."

"I've burned alone while you touched others."

---

Conflict — Fire Rises Between Them

"If you came for revenge—" he began.

"No. I came to see…"

"…if your body still remembers what your mind forgot."

She stepped into him — bare feet pressing into the Qi-scorched earth.

Her hand reached up, touched the base of his throat.

"You touched her first," she said softly.

"Now touch me like I'm the part you never should've left behind."

---

Long Tian's breath caught.

He didn't want this…

He didn't not want it.

He needed to know what part of him still belonged to her.

---

Final Scene of the Chapter

She leaned forward — not to kiss.

But to press her forehead to his.

A mirror-shaped rune flared between them.

Their bodies began to heat in tandem.

The Sutra responded, threads of golden flame twisting around their torsos.

And just before lips touched—

"Let's see if your Sutra can survive two truths at once."
