The hidden space behind the wall went quiet as Victoria's footsteps faded down the hall. Nash let out a slow breath, tickling Dahlia's neck.
The tight feeling in his body started to ease up. Dahlia leaned against him, her sweaty body going soft in his arms. A small, happy sigh slipped out.
"She's gone... oh god, she's gone," she whispered. Her voice shook from being tired and scared.
Nash loosened his grip a bit so she could breathe better. His hands moved down to her hips.
"Yeah. That was close. But we're safe for now."
His mind was already thinking ahead. His eyes got used to the small bit of light coming through the crack in the panel. The messy papers and old folders around them seemed important, and now the big bad evil was gone. He gave a soft push to Dahlia.
"Come on, Dahlia. We have to go. Get your clothes, but be quiet. Victoria might come back any second."
