Beside him waited several others—men and women dressed the same, faces lined with concern, all of them people Caelen recognized only as "Papa's friends."
Scientists. Researchers.
Adults who talked in hushed voices when kids were around.
Behind them stood their mother.
Kairie.
She looked worried.
Always worried.
"We still don't know if they're among the ones affected," Kairie said, stepping forward as if trying to close the distance. "We don't know if they'll ever awaken abilities."
Caelen felt Kairo squeeze his hand nervously.
