It was a beautiful morning. All through the previous night , it had rained relentlessly. However, on the approach of dawn, the sun had emerged slowly from the cloudless sky. It was a warm , soft early morning sun very unlike the hot , scorching midday sun that so typifies a tropical city like Lagos .As the twenty five year old well built young man descended from the bus , cool breeze of the lagoon was a welcome change to stuffy interior of the vehicle , which had brought him to start another day's work . Felix Williams walked briskly to the gate of Campos construction company taking time to adore the beauty of the Monday morning. Far away in the horizon , he observed with great excitement , a beautiful rainbow that had splashed itself on the blue sky . It seemed to match his life exactly . He was happy ,In love , with good job and good prospects . Nearby ,on an aged baobab tree ( one of the few remnants of a once dense forest ) he could hear the chirping of birds as they went about reconstructing their nests damaged by the previous day's rain.
Showing surprising agility for someone who had been confined to a hospital bed for the past two weeks , Felix took the stairs two at a time ,and very soon got to the second floor office of the construction company where he worked . As he walked along the corridor , he removed an inhaler from his pocket , dragged at it and quickly replaced it . Having suffered from asthma since childhood , Felix had already formed the habit of sniffing at his inhaler on the slightest stressful exercise , the short staircase trip being no exception . Although it was just a few minutes to eight o' clock , Felix's office in the personnel department of the company was already full with other workers. 'hey Felix is back ! ' shouted two of them excitedly as they saw their colleague enter the office . They moved up to him and shook him by hand .'how are you boy ? ' I'm quite fine thank you,' Felix replied . Samuel , Felix's best friend was particularly happy to see him .' sorry I couldn't see you again after my last visit to the hospital , you know . . .' ' Don't worry Sam ,' Felix interrupted . 'I understand how busy one could be here . Thanks for coming all the same.'
