They flood the courtyard like a tide of death, dozens upon dozens of them spilling out of the shadows, their rotting flesh slick with black ooze, their jaws cracking open as they screech and launch themselves at Magnus's wolves.
I flinch, my entire body jerking as if I were the one about to be torn apart. Damien's grip on my neck tightens, while his other hand bends me over again, pinning me in place against the balcony railing.
"Watch," he commands, his voice dark and sharp in my ear. "See the beauty of what you've created, Kaya. See the army your blood gave me. Witness it."
