Chapter 121 - Tactical Espionage Action

POV Sinjin

"You sure about this, boss?" Avery asks.

"Yes, for the last time, yes! The Shroud is causing losses, so we need to remove him," I reply.

"B-But what about the risks? I mean, the Shroud seems to be very competent. He even killed Kendra," Northy comments.

"The Shroud is just a freak in a costume. We have over 200 men here at the hospital. There's no way he sneaks past that, and further if he tries something, we can kill the hostages. If the Shroud is as much of a goody two-shoes as I think he is, then he will play by our rules. And if he tries to ignore the hostages and fight his way in, we will show him how much of dumb an idea that is. And... If, and I don't believe this for a second, if he gets through that or calls in the Minutemen, we can use the back entrance and skip town," I reply.

"When should we kill the first hostage?" Avery asks.

"When I get up tomorrow, it's getting late, and we need some rest," I reply.

"Shouldn't we expect an attack?" Northy asks.

"The Shroud ain't a mystical creature; he is just as mortal as the rest of us, which means he will rest before attacking. The trip alone will take several hours. So just leave the night watch on guard, and everyone else is to sleep. No exceptions, tell them we have lots of work tomorrow, and if they are too tired to shoot straight, I will kill them myself. And make sure nobody messes with the hostages. I don't want them damaged if possible. Once the Shroud is dead, we can sell them to Nuka World for a decent profit," I reply.

"Bu-But what if the Shroud ain't normal? I mean, what if those old comic books are true?" Northy asks nervously.

"For f*cks sake, Northy! Ease off the chems! The Shroud is just some idiot pretending to be something he isn't. When I get my hands on him, I will turn his skull into a cup and you will see that he ain't nothin' special. Now go do what I said, or else I will find a new Lt!" I reply loudly with an agitated voice.

'God, they're such a bunch of morons!'

I head to my office and get ready to sleep for the night.

POV Rio

After getting the threat, I had a chat with Kent, but in the end, it was decided I would handle this solo. I could take the others, but I didn't think I would need them, and it just increased the risk. Now I was flying above the hospital to get an understanding of what their numbers looked like and what I might do.

'Hmm, 211 people inside. But only 60 are on duty. And further, it seems most of them are slacking off, and even 7 are sleeping.'

I considered which way to deal with them, and I decided that taking the on-duty troops, then slowly wipe out all the sleeping Raiders. The on-duty Raiders were in various groups. 2 were guarding a separate cell with a total of 10 cells. 4 were guarding Sinjin. 5 were on the roof playing cards. 4 were in the lobby guarding the front entrance. 7 were leaning against the walls and sleeping while pretending to be awake. 18 were isolated and either patrolling or otherwise separated from everyone else. The last 2 were doing extracurricular activities in a closet with each other.

My first target was the easiest. The sleeping guards were easiest to teleport to and instantly kill thanks to my Dreamwarden perk. Next, I used my Shadow Teleportation to kill the 18 isolated guards. Next, I moved to deal with the hostage guards. They were a bit harder to deal with. Killing both at once was too risky, so I instead used distraction. I would create a sound that attracted them. One would leave their station to investigate, allowing me to kill them. Then, after killing them, I would cause the remaining guard to get suspicious, allowing me to teleport behind them and kill them. It worked flawlessly until the last pair of guards, who didn't budge no matter what. So I swapped to a ruse.

Stumble

"What the?" said Guard One.

"Great... Just what we needed..." Grumbles Guard Two.

"Johnny, go back to bed! And... Eugh! You reek of booze! Didn't you hear Sinjns' warning?" complains Guard One.

I fall to the ground and don't move.

"Sigh. Great. I'll take him back. Can you stay on guard?" Guard Two asks.

"Yeah, just hurry up, I don't want to get in trouble," replies Guard One.

Guard Two goes to pick me up, but I plunge a dagger into his throat, causing him to freeze in confusion.

"Hey? What's wrong?" Guard One asks.

I swiftly move and throw another dagger at the first guard's eye, killing him instantly, and before either body can fall, I catch them in my telekinesis and store them in my inventory. The next group I targeted was the lobby Raiders. I needed to split them up, so I tried a little Jedi Mind Trick.

'I really need to use the restroom.'

"Ugh. I gotta take a leak," comments one of the Raiders.

"Sigh. Fine, but make it quick," replies the one sitting at the front desk.

The Raider leaves and heads to the bathroom, but as they enter, I teleport behind them, cover their mouth, and slit their throat. I store the body and then alter my voice.

"AHHH!" I scream before making a crashing noise.

"My Leg!" I then scream again, then wait for them to come and investigate.

"You've got to be kidding me! Go see what that idiot did this time!" replies the leader.

The two other Raiders head towards the bathroom, and as soon as they are far enough, I teleport behind the leader and kill them. Then I sneak up behind the other two and repeat. The next targets were the Raiders on the roof. They were playing a game of cards, so I decided to repeat my same strategy, but this time I added something else.

"I gotta take a leak! Don't look at my cards while I'm gone!" says Raider One.

"Sigh. I guess we should do our hourly checks," says Raider Two while looking at a clock.

"Ugh. Fine. I don't see the point. Not like we are gonna see anythin'," complains Raider Three.

They split up and each takes a direction. Which meant they were all facing different directions. With 4 more easy kills, I waited for the last Raider to come back, and when he came back up the stairs, I killed him quickly. The next Raiders I targeted were the high out of their mind Raiders hiding in a closet. It was very easy to kill them, leaving the four guards and the many sleeping Raiders. I chose to ignore the 4 guards and systematically wiped out all the sleeping Raiders. It was then that I went to the Hostages and led them to the roof. I told them to wait there as I dealt with the remaining Raiders. I didn't want to endanger them, but I also couldn't just send them out into the night and hope they survived, as that would be suicide. Everyone knows how dangerous it is to travel at night. It's almost as dangerous as mining at night.

By the time I had gotten the hostages to the roof, Sinjin's guards had noticed that I had freed the hostages, and Sinjin and his two Lts were awoken, and now they were waiting for me. Since they were aware that something was wrong, I decided to go loud. So I popped around the corner and killed Sinjin's guards. All that remained was an elevator to Sinjin's quarters.

Ding

"Pijesus Christ! It's the Shroud!" screams Northy in fear.

"N-No way, th-that can't be! How... How did he get here!?" Avery says with equal fear.

"Hold, assholes. Anyone turns heel and I'm coming for you and your family. And you, Shroud, you step any closer and we get to see what's inside the hostages' heads," Sinjin says while holding a detonator.

"You shield yourself behind an innocent. You are craven, Sinjin. And you shall fall before me," I say with my Shroud voice.

"Don't talk to me like that. Some of these losers think you're some sort of legend. Like you walked straight out of a comic book. But you and I know, you're human. And you're weak. You came here, and for what? A bunch of random people you never met?" Sinjin says with a condescending tone.

"I have cut a path through all your thugs. Who can truly say I'm not the Shroud?" I reply.

"Don't listen, men. He's a phony. So what's going to happen is this. I'm going to kill the hostages. Then we're going to shoot the hell out of you. Nothing's going to be left but paste. Then I'm going to Goodneighbor and kill every last worthless bastard there. And burn the whole thing down. No one screws with Sinjin," Sinjin says, but I know it's a bluff.

"I am the instrument of justice, and I cannot fall. Death has come for you, evildoer. And I. Am. Its. Shroud!" I say with a terrifying tone.

"It is the Shroud. It really is. Screw this!" Northy says and makes a run for it. Avery follows soon after.

"Cowards!" Sinjin complains and then presses the detonator. But nothing happens.

As he is panicking, I aim my submachine gun and kill him as well as the fleeing Raiders. Sinjin does take several more shots to kill as he is wearing some Heavy Combat armor, but even with the ballistic face shield, he is killed swiftly. I don't take their bodies and only leave a calling card. I do take their gear, though. I then move to looting all the things I can find in the hospital. Once dawn breaks, I call over a Minutemen patrol to take the rescued hostages back to where they came from or wherever they want to go.
