Chapter 117 - GNN's Last Stand

POV Rio

Quiet and I were using snipers to pick off anyone we could that wouldn't be noticed. Cait can also help, but Quiet and I had better training and understanding as to who to shoot and when to shoot. The Mirelurks and Super Mutants did quite well against the Gunners. In fact, the Gunners would have been wiped out if the nearby Raiders hadn't sent aid. Though things got really tense after the battle, as the Gunners had 11 members left and the Raiders had 18. But in the end, self-preservation won out, and the Raiders kept their deal.

Not that it would matter much, as I decided no one was leaving Quincy alive. In fact, I decided to test an interesting idea that, if executed correctly, could eliminate the need for my other plan entirely.

DINNNG

Tambelon's Bell rang, and I could see everyone get really nervous. Once the second bell rang, all hell broke loose. The 29 people still alive lasted only a couple of seconds once the massive horde of the Undead rose. The army was around 2000 strong, and these weren't just basic Zombies and Skeletons. A Zombie Mirelurk has the same defenses it had in life. Though a few hundred of he undead were Mirelurk Spawn/Hatchlings, which were nearly useless in combat, it was still there. I also added a lot of bodies from my inventory to increase the numbers even further. It also raised the Mirelurk Queen. I then sent orders to have the Legion of the Dead march against the Raiders of Quincy Quarries, Hyde Park, and eventually GNN.

It was a bloodbath. Quincy had the advantage of the high ground, but the other places had no such luck. Hyde Park had some elevation, but it was only two stories, and there were many ways to get up to the many walkways. I was tempted to send the undead legion into Vault 88 to attack the Radscoprian Empress, but I doubted they would do much.

GNN was where the Legion failed. GNN had 272 Gunners defending it, and while they may not have been expecting an attack from the undead, they were always on alert for possible attacks from the Minutemen. The Legion had been reduced to 1478 by the time it arrived. The real issue was the massive amount of explosives they kept. They destroyed many of the Undead very quickly. But the undead did such a great job that I decided it was time the Mintemen wiped out the Gunners once and for all.

The Undead Legion had reduced the Gunners to 31, which was more than doable.

POV General Wes

The freak attack was the scariest thing I had ever seen. The enemy was peculiar; they didn't respond to pain and continued to advance. I thought they were traitors as I saw that bastard Clint in the group, but then the empty look in all their eyes made me rethink that. Not to mention the attackers were Mirelurks, Super Mutants, Raiders, and even Gunners. I even saw some skeletons. It was the hardest battle I had ever gone through, but we managed to survive, if only barely.

'Things have been nothing but trouble since August started the war with the Enclave.'

I sent some guys to the roof to keep an eye out for any additional attacks. I sent a few to the basement to make sure the reactor is still in working condition. The last were sent to start cleaning up this mess.

'On the bright side, a lot of them are just ash from our laser weapons.'

As we were cleaning, I heard a loud explosion and felt the ground shake a bit. I got on the radio and asked for a status report. All but the roof troops reported.

"Sh*t! All men fall back to the transmission room! We are under attack!" I yell over the intercom.

I have Captain Johnson recheck my Power Armor to make sure it was working right, and then I pointed my M134 Minigun at the door. If anyone tries to take me, they will have to face thousands of rounds of death. We got a head count of everyone and noticed that of the 31 we had, we only had 19. The roof and basement troops never made it back. I had Captain Johnson try and send a distress signal to Grand General August, but all channels were jammed.

Everyone got into position, and we all prepared for our finest hour. I was certain we were under attack by the Minutemen.

'They must have been waiting for a chance to attack us.'

I never considered the chance that they caused the freak army, as that seemed completely impossible.

POV Rio

"The Gunners have barricaded them in the main transmission room. We will need to avoid approaching from the central hall," I tell Preston.

"Okay, are we going to breach the walls then?" Preston asks.

"Yeah, that should work. You will breach with the others. I will attack from behind and transform immediately. With our powers combined, we should be able to wipe them out. General Wes might be the hardest to deal with. His full X-01 Suit will make it harder to take him down. And that mingun can rip through anything we throw at him," I reply.

"Yes, General!" Preston says while leaving to make his preparations.

Several Minutes Later...

I take a deep breath and prepare.

"Execute in T minus 5. 4. 3. 2. 1," Preston says over the radio.

I use my Shadow Teleport to appear behind Gunner's right after the explosion goes off. I target General Wes' Power Armor. Specifically, I force the Core to eject. I also throw knives at several other Gunners. Preston, Cait, Quiet, and MacCready open fire with their DC-17s. All of this happens in 2 seconds.

In those 2 seconds, 11 Gunners were killed and 4 more were injured. The remaining 4 were either General Wes or in a position where they could respond quickly enough to avoid death. I grab the ejected fusion core and drop 3 Flashbangs. I would be immune to the effects, so when they went off, I finished off the last Gunners except for Wes, who I disarmed and left standing there. With no Fusion Core and no weapon, he was a sitting duck.

Once the dust had settled, we started looting the place. General Wes would be interrogated for any info we could use, but other than that, we would take the decent amount of supplies that the Gunners had stockpiled here. As for General Wes, several Stun Rounds knocked him out, allowing us to easily remove him from the Power Armor.

The loot was more than worth it for the practically non-existent losses we suffered. All we lost was the undead, which was a non-factor. In exchange, we got 4 sets of Power Armor: 2 T-51Fs, 1 T-60F, and 1 X-01F. We obtained a massive amount of Fusion Cells and Ammo. Not that we really needed it, but it was nice to have just in case. There was a decent amount of Chems. There were far more Medical Supplies and Armor. The amount of Armor was disappointing. It seemed most of the armor had either been sent to Fort Drum or to the few other groups out collecting supplies. We also got more than enough weapons.

There were also some explosives, but again, most were sent to Fort Drum. But we did get some really nice, unique weapons. The first was Good Intentions, which was looted from Captain Clint, the traitor to the Minutemen. The next was AX90 Fury, which was a unique Plasma Sniper Rifle that did more damage against Super Mutants; it was Captain Johnson's gun. The next was an AK-47 called Ore Chasm, it had the phrase 'Prepare to be [penetrated] with bullets' engraved on the barrel. It bypassed up to 50% of the target's resistances. The next weapon was General Wes' M134 Mingun, called the Annihilarrgh. Every round it shot would explode, causing more damage, even if the initial round was just a normal 7.62 bullet.

As for armor, there were a few noteworthy items. But the only important one was wielded by the leader of the Hyde Park Raiders. It was called the Champion Set. It was a set of Polished Heavy Metal Armor that boosted every SPECIAL Stat by one, except for Luck, which was boosted by 2 points. The other effect was that it reduced damage by Robots by 30%. Overall, it was a decent set of armor, not one I would use, but it was a nice addition to my collection.

The other loot was a bit more notable. I got Guns and Bullets Special Issue - The Moon: A Communist Doomsday Device? and Guns and Bullets Issue #4, Street Guns of Detroit, which together increased critical damage by 10%. I also got Grognak the Barbarian Issue #9, In the Lair of the Virgin Eater, which did the same, but by 5% and to Melee and Unarmed damage. I also got Unstoppables Issue #4, Trapped in the Dimension of Pterror-Dactyls!, which gave me another 1% chance to avoid all damage from an attack. The last interesting item was the Small Guns Bobblehead. It read Magic Missile Groin Attack. It gave me +25% critical damage when using ballistic weapons and 15 Skill Points.

However, I completed a hidden quest when I picked up the Bobblehead, which made me realize this was the last Bobblehead I needed to complete the set. Or at least I thought that was the case. The quest gave me the last Bobblehead. The Bobblehead of Magic. It read: There will always be darkness in the world, but there will also always be those who find the light. It increased the power of all spells by 25% and gave me an additional 15 Skill Points.

After completing the quest and ensuring everything had been dealt with, I left a garrison at GNN and started the final preparations to deal with that Radscorpian Empress.

Author's Note:

This chapter marks the point where Rio has basically taken over the entire Commonwealth. There are still a few groups here and there, like Nuka World, but overall, he has dealt with most of them. Until next time, Ciao.
