Leon woke to the sound of soft humming.

Not a lullaby this time—at least not one meant for babies. It was Aria, padding around the nursery barefoot, wearing one of his old sweatshirts and her hair loose down her back.

He blinked a few times. The room was bathed in gentle morning light, and the fever that had gripped him so tightly the day before had dulled to a manageable ache.

He found himself on the nursery couch, a warm blanket tucked around him, and Elias's empty bottle resting on the side table beside a carefully folded note that read:"If you get up before me, you're grounded. – A."

Too late.

Leon sat up slowly and rubbed a hand over his face. Everything still hurt—but less. Manageable now. Normal. And more than anything, he missed holding them.

Aria turned, catching him mid-rise. "Leon. What did I say?"

"That grounding me wasn't enforceable in our marriage contract."

She narrowed her eyes but walked over and kissed his temple anyway. "You're lucky I'm too in love with you to start a war before 8 a.m."

Their soft banter faded as Lila began to stir in her crib, followed shortly by Amara and Elias. The morning routine kicked in, but it was gentler this time—less rushed, more shared. They moved in tandem, passing bottles and burp cloths like seasoned dancers trading cues.

At one point, Aria laughed as Elias let out a surprisingly impressive belch, and Leon grinned. "That's definitely from your side of the family."

"You wish," she said, but her smile never faded.

Later, when the triplets were down for their morning nap, the apartment was filled with the rarest of all gifts: stillness.

Leon poured two mugs of tea, joining Aria on the sun-warmed balcony where she'd set up a little nest of blankets. He settled beside her, watching the quiet city stretch beneath them.

"Do you ever wonder what they'll remember from all this?" Aria asked softly, cradling her mug.

Leon thought for a moment, then leaned his head against hers. "They won't remember much. But we will. Every night we survived. Every bottle. Every laugh. Every kiss."

She smiled, blinking back emotion. "It's been a lot, hasn't it?"

He didn't deny it. "But you were right. It's ours."

They sat there in silence, hands entwined over the soft curve of a blanket draped over their knees. Their life had become smaller in scale, but infinitely richer in meaning. Between feedings and fatigue, laughter and lullabies, they'd built something unshakable.

Two halves of one whole—learning every day how to love deeper than the day before.
