Chapter 223 - The Grandmother's Return

Ultimately, Little Light won over her mother, sister, and aunt with her irresistible charm. Then, she won over her father with an irresistible uppercut.

Mr. Cosmodeous, a father who doted on his daughter, finally surrendered. He sat on the bed holding Little Light, allowing her to act coquettishly in his arms.

Muen sat nearby, holding the Young Dragon Enlightenment Reader: New Edition and reading a story to her little sister.

The old edition had depicted Constantine as a hero of the dragon race, but this hero had been swiftly defeated by their father. As a result, the dragon race's publisher had to urgently compile a new edition.

Meanwhile, Rossweise and Isha began discussing serious matters.

"Sis, your visit this time isn't just to see Little Light, is it?"

Dragons did not move without reason. No matter how much Isha adored her nieces, that alone would not bring her back for another visit after just three months.

Isha nodded. "Indeed, there is something I need to tell you."

"If it was just to deliver a message, you could have used a messenger dragon. There was no need to come personally," Rossweise said.

Isha shook her head with a smile. "Little Rose, this is not a small matter."

Rossweise raised her beautiful eyebrows, intrigued. "So, what is this matter you wish to tell me?"

"Grandmother is coming back."

At the word 'grandmother,' Rossweise was visibly stunned.

Leon, soothing the baby nearby, naturally overheard the conversation—not that he was eavesdropping, but the bedroom was only so big.

Their grandmother…

Leon remembered that shortly after he first woke up, during a chat with Rossweise, she had mentioned her family. Both she and Isha were born dragons but had never met their parents, raised solely by their grandmother.

However, despite living with Rossweise for nearly two years, Leon had never seen this often-mentioned grandmother. After that initial conversation, Rossweise rarely spoke of her family again.

So, this legendary grandmother… was she finally going to appear?

A flicker of paranoia, born from his persecution by the Empire, made him wonder if her arrival was connected to them. He shook his head, deciding not to entertain such baseless speculation for now.

On Rossweise's side, after collecting herself, she asked, "Did Grandmother write to you?"

"Yes, I received her letter yesterday. It was brief. First, she asked how we were, then mentioned she would be returning soon. She hopes our strength has not regressed and that we still live up to the title of Dragon Kings."

Hearing this, Rossweise smiled wryly. "Grandmother is still as strict as ever."

Thinking back to her childhood, Rossweise and Isha had grown up under their grandmother's exacting guidance. Whether in studies, magic, or daily life, her expectations for them were always high.

Noah's temperament was somewhat like her grandmother's. However, while her eldest daughter was strict with herself, their grandmother had been strict with both herself and her two granddaughters.

But her methods were not merely about pressure and demands; her strictness with the Silver-Red sisters was always perfectly measured.

As adults, Isha and Rossweise did not look back on their childhood as unhappy. Having never known their parents, they felt fortunate to have had such a dedicated and responsible grandmother.

Pulling herself from her memories, Rossweise looked at her sister. "Did Grandmother say why she is returning this time? Is it simply to visit us?"

"No, she did not. But I doubt it is a simple social call," Isha replied.

"The last time we saw Grandmother was on the day of your coronation. That was over fifty years ago, correct?"

"Yes… over fifty years. Back then, I was full of ambition, eager to lead the Silver Dragon clan to greatness. And now—"

Isha, watching her sister, expected a lament about the passage of time.

However, perhaps influenced by her easygoing brother-in-law, Rossweise finished her thought with:

"And now, I am the mother of three children."

"…"

Isha playfully poked her sister's forehead. "If Grandmother knew how cheerful you have become, she would be very happy."

Rossweise blushed. "What do you mean, 'become cheerful'? I have always been like this."

Isha smirked. "Oh, really? Before marrying Leon, the number of times you smiled in a year could be counted on one hand. Am I wrong?"

Leon, who had been listening in, straightened up slightly upon hearing this. See? That's what you call a dragon-slaying champion!

Rossweise shot a faintly annoyed look at Leon's back. Complimenting him only made him more insufferable. She tugged her sister's sleeve, lowering her voice. "Do not praise him. His head will swell."

Isha chuckled and returned to the subject of their grandmother.

"In any case, since only an event as significant as your coronation brought Grandmother back last time, her return now must surely be for something equally important."

Something important… Rossweise's gaze drifted toward Leon again.

In many ways, she and her husband thought alike.

Just as Leon had wondered if her return was connected to the Empire, Rossweise could not help but link the recent events involving the Empire and Constantine to her grandmother's arrival.

Of course, making this connection did not mean Rossweise believed her grandmother was secretly involved with the Empire. It was merely a feeling that the events were related.

Noticing her sister's deep thought, Isha asked, "Little Rose, did you think of something?"

"Ah? Oh… I was just speculating that Grandmother's return might be related to Constantine," Rossweise said, opting not to mention the Empire. "After all, an invasion of the Silver Dragon clan is no small matter. It is something Grandmother would deem worth investigating."

"Hmm… that is reasonable," Isha agreed. She paused, then a thought occurred to her. "But if Grandmother is returning because she is concerned about the Silver Dragon clan being in danger, why did she not come three years ago?"

Three years ago.

Rossweise knew exactly what Isha referred to: the attack on the Silver Dragon clan by the human Empire's Dragon Slayer Army. The leader of that army, the human hero and most formidable dragon slayer, was currently sitting in her bedroom, soothing their daughter.

She stole a glance at Leon, then quickly steered the conversation elsewhere. "Perhaps Grandmother was occupied with other matters at the time."

"Perhaps. We have never truly known what she has been doing all these years. After raising us to adulthood, she said she was traveling the world, but her actual activities remain a mystery," Isha sighed. "I have saved up many questions to ask her this time."

Rossweise smiled. "As do I. Though… I do not believe she knows I am married."

The Red Dragon Queen's eyes sparkled with curiosity and a hint of gossip. "Introducing your husband!!"
