Chapter 187 - Back Home Arc: Five

Sous didn't know what was going on with Tany. Through the weeks, she tried contacting the witch, but it seemed no modes of communication worked. Even when Sous contacted Fednora to see how school was going and if she had any updates on her son, even Fednora admitted to not having luck contacting her mother.

Puff!

There it was again, another parchment came back to Sous undelivered. She sat in bed with Kara next to her reading a book.

"Still nothing," the Omega asked.

"Still nothing," Sous said back. She slammed herself into the pillow and rolled around like a pig. Kara laughed setting aside her book. "These sheets smelled so good," Sous said, her voice muffled within them.

"Hmm hmm, freshly washed...Sous," Kara said softly.

The Alpha looked at her new mate, their mate marks still fresh from being implemented just a few weeks ago.

"I'm pregnant..."

Gulp!

Sous sat up in bed wide eyed looking at Kara. She licked her lips and smiled. "Are you sure?"

Kara nodded her head a couple of times.

"YEAAAAAHHHHH!!!" Sous stood up from the bed and grabbed Kara by the hands lifting her up, and holding her in her arms. The Alpha jumped around with Kara holding on for dear life while also laughing.

Both landed back onto the bed, in their sheets staring at one another. They kissed passionately with Sous climbing on top of Kara, making love to her that night, the whole night!

As the days wore on while Sous was at work at the lumberyard, Kara did what she could with one of the spare rooms. She lifted her hands, creating a bed with magic, a cieling fan with magic, dresser and drawers with magic. She laughed, looking at her hands.

"I'm glad I took that interior design class or Id have to fork up money just to do this," she said to herself.

She sighed softly, rubbing her belly gently. The room felt warmer than usual, the scent of sawdust from Sous' work clinging faintly to the curtains Kara had conjured last week.

Outside, the afternoon sun cast long shadows across the wooden floorboards, painting stripes of gold through the half-drawn blinds. Kara traced the grain of the newly materialized oak dresser, its surface smooth under her fingertips, still humming with the residual energy of creation.

A bead of sweat trickled down her temple despite the ceiling fan's lazy rotation; magic always left her feeling both exhilarated and drained, like running uphill in thick summer air.

That was probably because she barely trained. She was always so stressed when she was with Zhiliary and even though she lost everything including the kids, now here with Sous, she felt so free.

She was having a baby! Sous' baby! She wiped the tears away that were forming in her eyes. It took thirty five years but here she was, finally with the Alpha she wanted the most.

Slam!

"I'm home!" Sous called out. Kara ran to meet her in the entrance.

"I haven't got dinner on!"

Sous shrugged her shoulders. "So, we'll make it together." She took her boots off and hung her work coat on the hanger. "We should still have some fresh clams," the Alpha said rubbing her hands.

Kara smiled softly. She followed Sous into the kitchen and watched her mate pull out the clams, garlic, and herbs. Sous' movements were confident and precise. Kara leaned against the counter, rubbing her belly again. The scent of garlic hitting the hot oil filled the air. Sous stirred the pot, her brow furrowed in concentration.

"When did you learn to cook?" Kara asked. Sous chuckled and walked to get a chair for the pregnant Omega to sit in.

"Prison, Makala and Faye, and even Shadow Jr.," Sous said, shocked by the last name she said.

"Prison, uh? Is that why you got that warm blood in the microwave?"

Sous started drooling. "Oh, I love it!" She continue to cook the dish for the two of them.

The Omega chuckled softly. She watched Sous cook with a smile on her face.

The scent of garlic hitting hot oil filled the kitchen, sharp and pungent. Sous moved with practiced ease, her calloused hands deftly chopping herbs while the clams steamed in their pot. Kara traced slow circles on her abdomen, the warmth beneath her palm a quiet promise.

Outside, dusk painted the sky in bruised purples and fading oranges, shadows stretching long across the kitchen tiles. Sous glanced over her shoulder, her gaze lingering on Kara's hand resting on the gentle curve, a flicker of awe softening the usual intensity in her dark blue eyes.

She turned back to the stove, stirring with renewed vigor, the rhythmic scrape of the wooden spoon against the pot a grounding sound in the cozy room.

"Have you thought of a name?" Sous asked.

"Puimo."

Sous snapped her head to her new mate. Kara smiled at her. Sous turned back to the stove, not wanting to cry. For Kara to do that, name the child after Sous' deceased father meant a lot.

"The child is going to be mostly wolf and witch," Sous said.

"75 percent wolf and a quarter of witch, and maybe five percent everything else. So yeah, that seems right," although the math was a bit off, it was a good estimate.

Dinner time!

Sous served the steaming clams onto two plates, the fragrant broth pooling around the tender shellfish. Kara breathed in deeply, the mingled scents of garlic, white wine and warm blood for Sous and fresh parsley wrapping around her like a warm embrace.

They ate in comfortable silence, the only sounds the clink of forks against porcelain and the soft slurp of broth. Sous' eyes kept drifting to Kara's belly, a profound wonder softening the lines of her face each time.

The weight of the name Puimo settled between them, unspoken but deeply felt, a tribute hanging in the fragrant air thicker than the steam rising from their plates.

"So I am thinking of appying for the alchemy research department at the Faelock university," Sous said.

"Oh yeah!"

Sous nodded her head. "Got my resume together and cover letter, even managed to get several references so I'm hoping to get a good chance at an interview. I even met up with Clarence sometime back to go over some things."

"I fully support you but please don't be gone for too long. We have a baby on the way," Kara said. Sous smiled, holding up her cup as a cheer.
