The way Aster's face distorted upon learning that the very man who had repeatedly smashed his head against a mountain wall was now traveling with his respected brother… was something that even the finest artist wouldn't be able to capture.
Eryn jerked his head toward Aster. "Why does he call you 'brother'? Are you?" he asked Kael, but his tone did not even sound like he wanted to find out the answer.
"Not by blood, but by priesthood," Kael replied. He stepped forward, intending to approach Aster, but stopped when he felt a tug on his left hand. Glancing down, he found his fingers intertwined with Eryn's.
Kael's eyes widened. When Eryn helped him out, did he unconsciously wrap his fingers around Eryn's?! What was he thinking?!
Heat rushed to his cheeks as embarrassment colored his face. He quickly tried to yank his hand away—only to realize it wasn't his fingers that were clinging. It was Eryn's.
