Chapter 3 - Holy Shit...I Am the Protagonist

So according to you, they were just a group of bandits?

This was the third time the baron's soldier had asked me that, and I gave the same polite reply again:

"Yes. They were only bandits who came to loot us."

The soldier turned to his partner, whispered something low, and after a brief nod to the village doctor, both of them left the room.

From the way they reacted, I could tell they suspected this attack had something to do with the royal convoy. The princess's journey, probably. But I knew that wasn't true.

This wasn't about her.

Yes, this had been a setup, but not for the princess. It was meant for my father. Or more precisely, his father. The one this nine-year-old body belonged to.

From the scattered memories now stitched inside my head, I could already piece things together.

I'd been transmigrated into some fantasy world, inside the body of a boy who had just been killed in an ambush.

What amazing luck.

Other protagonists? They get reborn as young nobles, sons of heroes, disciples of grand mages. And me?

I get dropped into the corpse of an orphaned kid with nowhere to go. Great start.

Honestly, if the soldiers hadn't decided to bring me back, I'd probably have died without even realising I'd entered a new world.

Going back to that place? Yeah, no. That'd be suicide.

Even if I wanted to return, I had no money, no family, and absolutely no guarantee I wouldn't be kidnapped or killed before making it halfway there.

Sigh.

Worst part? I can't even stay here.

The old man, the doctor who patched me up, was planning to head to the capital since his family lives there. And I am definitely not tagging along. The grander the place, the bigger the danger. And with my luck, another ambush wouldn't even surprise me.

Of course, staying here isn't really an option either. But what choice do I have? My injuries haven't completely healed, and there's a limit to what I can do in this condition.

Maybe I can find an inn to work at or some other job.

Just enough to earn a little and survive.

I was already thinking about becoming a mage and going on adventures, but the concept of magic in this world seems a bit different. Instead of the usual elemental stuff like fire or water, people here use magic more like a physical enhancer. Kind of like chakra in Naruto or how Cid uses it in The Eminence in Shadow. Honestly, for a moment, I even asked the old man if he knew anything about Shadow Garden, but he didn't react at all.

As for things like the kingdom's name or any princesses or heroes, my memory's fuzzy. I vaguely remember there being three or maybe four heroes. One of them an elf, I think. I could try checking by experimenting with slimes or something, but there's no need to rush that. Not yet. First, I need to work on strengthening my mana and getting better control over it. I'm not like Cid, who started training when he was a kid, but hey, I'm still young, so there's room to grow.

At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter if this world is based on some anime or not.

None of that matters unless I survive long enough to even find out.

But before trying anything else, I want to do something.

A gamble. All or nothing. Betting everything on a hunch.

"System, are you there?" I asked aloud.

No response. Nothing. Just awkward silence.

I sighed. Figures.

But before I could even curse my luck,

DING.

A translucent screen appeared right in front of me. Exactly like the ones in Solo Leveling.

Clear. Floating. Glowing faintly.

I froze.

No way.

See bitch.

I'm the protagonist.

A freaking gacha system.

Use points to spin a wheel and get anything from the Omniverse. Templates, summons, items, powers, consumables, you name it.

Literally anything is possible.

Of course, there's a catch.

Each spin costs 3 points.

And I only get 1 point per day.

Meaning if I want to do a proper 10-pull, I have to wait a full month.

Tried looking for a workaround. Maybe trade items? Offer some cash? Soul? Kidney?

Nope.

The system is airtight. No microtransactions.

The only currency here is time.

But hey, something's better than nothing.

Especially when I can spin right now.

[Points: 19]

Nineteen points.

Guess I've been unconscious for 19 days.

Which also confirms something else.

This system came with me.

The original owner of this body had nothing to do with it. There's no memory of it in his head.

I didn't waste another second.

If this world's as dangerous as it feels, I need firepower. Now.

So I dumped 18 points. Six glorious pulls.

Let it rip.

Just let me get a Saitama template.

The screen flashed.

And then the results rolled in.

1. Musashi Miyamoto (Baki)

2. Spectre Ring x297 (James Bond)

3. Kunai x567 (Naruto)

4. Yubashiri (One Piece)

5. Grayfia's Panties (High School DxD)

6. Richard Drakunovski (DC)

Holy shit.

************

How powerful mc would be with these two templates?
