Chapter 206 - Chapter 206: The Dragon’s Duel — Charizard vs. Salamence

"ROAARRR!!!"

Charizard let out a thunderous roar, eyes blazing with killing intent as it faced its opponent from above. That savage aura wasn't for show — this was the same Charizard that had once trained alone on a desolate island, battling wild Pokémon day and night. It had long since learned how to kill to survive.

"Salamence, use Giga Impact!"

Seeing his wounded Salamence struggling in the sky, Makoto Ito gritted his teeth and shouted his command. The longer this fight dragged on, the worse it would be for him.

"Raaaagh!!!"

Salamence's body became enveloped in a swirling aura of blue energy. With a deafening roar, it rocketed forward like a comet, tearing through the air toward Charizard.

Ash's expression didn't waver. "We'll meet it head-on! Charizard — Giga Impact!"

Charizard roared in answer, cloaking itself in the same brilliant blue energy. The two dragons charged at each other, their power shaking the very air between them.

"BOOM!!!"

A blinding explosion filled the stadium as they collided. The ground trembled from the shockwave, and for a few seconds, the two Pokémon remained locked together midair, their roars echoing like thunder.

Commentator:

"They've collided! Both trainers' Pokémon are using Giga Impact! This is a direct contest of raw strength — only one can come out on top!"

The crowd held its breath.

"ROAR!!!"

Charizard's furious bellow broke through the sound of the impact. Its aura suddenly flared brighter, overpowering Salamence's energy. With a mighty shove, Charizard forced Salamence back, sending it spiraling through the air before the dragon managed to regain control with a painful beat of its wings.

Commentator:

"The results are in! Ash Ketchum's Charizard has overpowered Makoto Ito's Salamence in this head-on clash!"

"Tch… damn it."

Ito's fists clenched as he glared at the battlefield. The flames surrounding the arena had dimmed now — even the environment seemed to turn against him. The logical move would have been to switch back to Garchomp, but he had already used all his allowed substitutions for the match.

This was it.

His last stand.

He had come to Kanto to mock its so-called 'trainers' — to prove that Sinnoh's Champions stood above them. He'd even borrowed one of his father's strongest Pokémon for this match.

And yet… he was being humiliated by Ash Ketchum, a rival he'd once dismissed as nothing more than a reckless rookie.

His pride was shattering.

"Salamence!" Ito roared, desperation breaking through his composure. "Use Dragon Claw — go for the kill!"

Salamence's foreclaws flared with a sharp white glow. Its crimson wings flapped with fury as it lunged toward Charizard, aiming for a decisive strike.

"Dodge it — then use Brick Break!"

At Ash's command, Charizard shifted sharply to the side, narrowly avoiding Salamence's glowing claws. In the same instant, it raised its right arm, the edge of its hand gleaming with white light.

"HAH!"

Charizard brought its arm down in a brutal arc — the Brick Break slammed into Salamence's long neck, forcing a pained roar from the dragon.

"Now, Dragon Claw!"

Before Salamence could recover, Charizard's claws ignited with energy and slashed downward, cutting across Salamence's abdomen with overwhelming force.

"BOOM!!!"

"ROAAARRR!!!"

The impact sent Salamence crashing hard into the ground below, its roar turning into a cry of agony as the earth cracked beneath it.

Smoke and dust billowed up around the fallen dragon. When the air cleared, Salamence lay motionless, its body covered in burns and deep claw marks.

The referee raised his flag.

"Salamence is unable to battle! The winner is Charizard!"

Charizard might not be a true Dragon-type Pokémon, but few could deny its draconic might. Its very presence commanded the sky like a dragon lord — and though its typing wasn't Dragon, it had long mastered several techniques reserved for those born of dragon's blood.

Its appearance alone was enough to justify its title as the Spitfire Dragon.

"Flashflame Instinct."

Ash's quiet command came the moment Charizard dove low, eyes locked on its opponent. Before Salamence could react, Charizard's fierce gaze flared — a sudden, scorching aura erupting around it like a living inferno.

"ROAARRR!!!"

As Salamence met Charizard's burning eyes, blue flames erupted from its scales. The draconic Pokémon roared in agony, thrashing in midair as the flames clung to its body.

Flashflame Instinct — a unique ability born from Charizard's intense synchronization with Ash's Aura.

It wasn't a traditional attack but a psychic ignition technique. By channeling his Aura through eye contact, Ash could stimulate the ambient fire energy around the target's body, instantly setting it ablaze.

However, it came with a limit.

The range couldn't exceed three meters — beyond that, the Aura field couldn't ignite the surrounding energy effectively. The eye contact wasn't for intimidation alone — it was the trigger for Ash's psychic focus.

Though Aura manipulation usually demanded calm control, Ash's understanding of it was shaped by his training under Lance and his own creative intuition. To him, Aura and the "gaze" of battle were one and the same. When fused with Charizard's natural Intimidate pressure, the result was devastating.

Now, that devastating ability was burning Salamence alive.

The flames seared into Salamence's back wounds, turning scales black and raw. The dragon crashed to the ground, writhing and roaring in agony, its wings beating helplessly as the fire refused to go out.

"Damn it!"

Makoto Ito's face twisted in fury. "Even if you go down, take it with you! Salamence — Dragon Breath! Burn that Charizard down!"

"ROAARRR!!!"

Salamence forced itself up despite the torment. Its maw opened wide, releasing a surge of bright green energy wrapped in faint firelight — the Dragon Breath attack, infused with residual flames from its own burning body.

Ash didn't flinch. "Assimilate it — Charizard!"

"ROOOAR!!!"

Charizard spread its wings, and an overwhelming crimson blaze erupted around it — far hotter than molten magma. The inferno surrounded its body like living armor, its temperature spiking beyond natural flame.

As Salamence's Dragon Breath shot forward, Charizard blurred to the side, the high-speed movement leaving streaks of fire across the air. Then, using its mastered aerial acceleration — a technique Ash had once called "Shave" after seeing Greninja's movements — Charizard vanished in a flash and reappeared behind Salamence.

"ROAAAARRR!!!"

A roar like a dragon's battle cry shook the field as Charizard descended, talons gleaming with firelight.
