Some Pokémon abilities only activate under special conditions. Others are passive but have unique effects even when not in use.
For instance, the Flame Body ability of Lt. Surge's Magmar allows it to survive in magma thanks to its naturally high body temperature.
The Snorlax's abilities are similar. Its Thick Fat not only grants strong resistance to cold but also provides incredible defense. Combined with its Immunity ability, Snorlax becomes an almost unstoppable tank.
This immunity doesn't mean Snorlax is unaffected by all Pokémon moves—but it comes close.
With Thick Fat, physical attacks only deal around 20–30% of their normal damage. If Snorlax braces correctly, even less. The same goes for most basic attacks.
In short, Snorlax's attack and defense stats are both top-tier. The only downsides are its limited elemental skill pool and its low speed.
"Snorlax, use Mega Punch!"
Ito shouted, seeing Suzie's Venusaur still recovering. His Snorlax charged forward, its fist glowing with raw power.
But Suzie wasn't the type to back down easily.
"Wooden Barrier!" Ash commanded sharply. His eyes gleamed coldly as he made the call. He liked Snorlax too, but a battle was a battle. Against an opponent's Pokémon, there would be no mercy.
"Mokuton: Wooden Barrier!" Suzie cried out.
A wall of thick wood rose before Venusaur, shielding it completely.
Then came the BOOM!
Crack… crack…
BOOM!!!
Snorlax's Mega Punch landed with tremendous force. The impact echoed like thunder, and to everyone's shock, the wooden wall splintered.
With a final shattering sound, the wall broke apart. Even Ash hadn't expected that. Though his ninjutsu techniques were weaker in this world, Mokuton was still a powerful defensive skill—one that should've been nearly impossible to break without an attack on par with Hyper Beam.
Ash narrowed his eyes.
"Impressive. As expected of Snorlax—it ranks among the strongest Pokémon I've ever seen."
Activating his Sharingan, Ash examined Snorlax carefully. Because of its Thick Fat, even the recoil from its own physical strikes was almost entirely absorbed. Most Pokémon instinctively held back about 10% of their power to avoid injury from the counterforce of impact. But Snorlax didn't need to—it could hit with full force, again and again.
"Hmph! Snorlax is my dad's trump card for raw power!" Ito sneered proudly. "You won't get away this time, Ash! Snorlax, use Focus Punch!"
Unlike Mega Punch, which channels pure physical strength for an explosive impact, Focus Punch is a refined martial move—it may not hit as hard, but it can be used repeatedly without draining stamina.
Mega Punch is devastating, but exhausting. Even Snorlax can't keep that up forever.
"Vine Whip: Thorn Bind!" Ash countered calmly.
As Snorlax lunged forward, multiple thick vines erupted from the ground around it—seven, eight, maybe more—each tipped with sharp barbs. They coiled tightly around Snorlax, restraining it completely.
The barbs pricked into Snorlax's skin, but its Thick Fat absorbed the pressure without flinching. Any ordinary Pokémon would've already been bleeding from the cuts.
Snorlax simply roared in defiance, its massive frame trembling against the vines—but not breaking.
Even restrained, its sheer strength was enough to make the ground quake beneath it.
"Hahaha! You really are an idiot, Ash!" Ito sneered, laughing mockingly. "Snorlax has Thick Fat and an iron stomach. And you think you can restrain it with vines full of thorns? What a joke!"
The crowd stirred as Snorlax, bound tightly by Venusaur's thorny vines, suddenly opened its massive mouth. With surprising agility, it bit down on the vines, tore them apart, and began eating them whole.
Gasps echoed through the arena. Even the audience, who had grown used to seeing Ash pull off all sorts of unconventional strategies, looked confused. It didn't make sense—Ash wouldn't make such an obvious mistake.
But then he smiled.
"Hmph. You're pretty confident, Ito," Ash said calmly.
"But you really shouldn't have let Snorlax swallow those vines."
No sooner had he spoken than Snorlax's triumphant expression twisted in pain. The enormous Pokémon let out a deep, guttural roar, clutching its belly and rolling on the ground as if in agony. Something inside its stomach was visibly shifting and expanding.
"What?!" Ito's face turned pale. It hit him instantly—he'd been outplayed.
Ash's voice remained cold. "The vines Venusaur used weren't ordinary. The barbs are infused with toxic spores that react when exposed to air. The longer they're outside, the more they expand. And Snorlax just ate every last one."
Within moments, Snorlax's stomach was in turmoil. The barbs embedded inside began swelling, tearing through its insides with prickling pain. The audience gasped as the mighty Pokémon struggled, grunting and sweating profusely.
After nearly ten seconds of torment, Snorlax finally dropped to one knee, panting heavily.
"Snorrr... lax…"
Its body trembled. Even with its incredible endurance, it was clear the pain was unbearable. Fortunately for Ito, Snorlax's digestion was powerful—after several painful seconds, it managed to break down and neutralize the vines. But the damage had already been done.
Ash's eyes hardened.
"Venusaur—finish it. Use your strongest attack. Mokuton: Tree World Birth!"
"Venusaur!!"
With a thunderous roar, Venusaur stomped the ground. The arena began to shake violently.
BOOM!
From the earth, countless thick trees erupted upward, bursting through the floor and twisting skyward. Within seconds, the entire battlefield transformed into a sprawling forest, its canopy reaching even the spectator stands. The sound was like that of an earthquake—deep, resonant, unstoppable.
Leaves rustled, dust rose, and beams of light broke through the dense foliage.
Narrator: "Incredible! Ash's Venusaur has used its own original skill—Tree World Birth! The entire arena has become a living forest! Can Ito possibly turn this around now?"
The audience rose to their feet, cheering wildly, while Ash and Venusaur stood amid the forest they had created—an unshakable force of nature.
