Chapter 18 - Pieces: Oath Bone

On another workday, employees will continue their normal duties until they begin their upcoming missions. Because there's a waiting period for the next missions to begin, everyone will be at work until Head Chief Brady makes an announcement. Sometimes, on days when their normal workload is busy, backup assassins are assigned with the authority of higher-ranking officials. It's a well-known fact that missions are created to reduce the assassins' workload. While missions have both advantages and disadvantages, it's quite clear that the employees and assassins actually maintain a balance. The assassins' job is to destroy the combination of an oath bone, called "fragments" by higher-ranking officials, without leaving a trace. It may be easy to say, but for assassins, the challenges behind it are akin to torture.

It was time for Ivan and the other employees to work, and Luth, one of the assassins, appeared next to Deputy Chief Quinn. While they were talking in a gloomy building known as the assassins' headquarters, their expressions, while typically tense and nervous, betrayed the opposite. Except for a few assassins who were waiting for the right time to discover the parts, most appeared to be at work. Despite the difficulty, there were also a significant number of assassins who had lost their lives. Even though they sometimes didn't receive positive rewards for the risks they took, they continued as if they were locked in their work. As Luth and Quinn were talking, Clarissa suddenly appeared next to them, and Luth fell violently from his chair.

"C-Clarissa, why are you coming all of a sudden?! Y-You jerk."

"I won't bother you, Luth. You're just using your incompetence for fun. Anyway, let me know what's going on, right away."

"All I can say for now is that he only has nine weeks left. And as we discussed earlier, his other mess has very little time left."

"I see. We'll be monitoring him longer than usual until the nine weeks you mentioned are over... You're completing your mission successfully, my dear Quinn."

"Our goals are the same, so I work hard to complete the assigned work without any problems."

"I love your determination, Quinn. You certainly deserve my admiration... I'll see you another day." then with a little worry and a smile she disappeared

"S-She ignored me again ... I don't understand, what could I have done to her?!"

"Just focus on your work, *Teacher* Luth. You got all the hate the other day because you went out out of boredom or anger (?). Also, I guess you didn't notice Clarissa coming in a hurry. Apparently, there are some troublesome situations."

"Don't even get me started, I only got out with Brady's permission. It wasn't my sole purpose anyway. It's really sad that he doesn't care about me, Quinn. Still, there's definitely a reason he showed up so suddenly."

"We don't get to go out much... Brady and Clarissa go out when necessary. You're slacking off, *Teacher* Luth!"

"I'm telling you, Quinn. That was just a small exception. I'll never be able to go out again anyway. I guess I used my right too early, though..."

"You've shown your stupidity again. I don't think you'll ever come to your senses." she said with a sarcastic smile on her face

"You can't fool me, Quinn... In fact, the only person who would fall for your tricks is me... After all, you still haven't mastered this craft." he rose from the chair he had previously fallen from, along with his insulting words

"Oh, master. Aren't you being a little harsh on me? I'm sorry, but..."

"I guess it just dawned on you that I'm your master... I'm leaving, my time for parts is coming. You just do your job and get lost."

"I'm really sorry, master. I went a little overboard, but you'll forgive me, won't you?"

"You must have heard what I said earlier, Quinn. When you're done, get lost."

Luth Teuga possesses immense power, yet he never reveals his full potential. It's well known to others, especially Clarissa, that his personality is quite peculiar compared to his power. The restriction of his known destructive power sometimes causes him to lose his temper. It also provides a great distraction for Luth, who gets along quite well with Orion. Regarding his work, he simply completes his assigned task and steps aside. His known power allows him to destroy the Oath Bone Fusion in seconds. However, he never accepts any promotions. Regarding his student, Quinn Elzar, he has been training under Luth since middle age. Knowing his teacher's easygoing nature and eccentric personality, he enjoys confronting him verbally. Even though they never seem to be Master and Student, their bond remains quite strong. However, this bond remains a mystery, as he is attached to someone else (?) and is unknown to anyone.

After Luth and Quinn's departure, we move on to the other side, Ivan and the other employees. The employees, continuing their work as usual, held their meetings with only Head Chief Brady. Some became depressed again, while others once again projected their happiness. Ivan and Orion, unlike the other employees, mostly disagreed but got along, so they kept to themselves. Despite the blurry memories in his mind, he didn't want to let anyone know. He couldn't stop thinking about the first day of the mission, as he remembered very little. But a deep feeling in his mind insisted he should never tell anyone... They went to break again. They smoked again. After the break, they returned to their work. And hours later, their workday ended. He would either find answers to the thoughts that had formed in his mind or bury them. After these thoughts, it was the end of another day. Those who will join him in the struggle to see the future will soon be revealed.
