High above the clouds, the rhythmic thumping of the helicopter rotors served as a backdrop to Ethan's thoughts. He leaned back, staring out at the hazy horizon, recalling his recent conversation with the Matriarch. Her voice, seductive and mature, still echoed in his mind.
"What a pleasure to hear from you, Ethan. I thought you wouldn't call so soon," she had purred over the secure line.
"I'm sorry it took me so long to call you, it's been a tough few days but you were right." Ethan had replied. "I received the invitation from the Capitol. After thinking it over, I decided that not going would be a sign of weakness. I'm leaving in a couple of days. I wanted to know if you were still attending."
