From the corner of her eye, she saw Bai Zhi lounging comfortably on the cream leather sofa, scrolling through her phone with a faint smile. Her hair was tied up in a neat bun, her makeup flawless, her aura peaceful and elegant as if she belonged there more than Yueyao ever did.
"Welcome home, Yueyao," Bai Zhi said softly without looking up. "You should rest early tonight. You look… tired."
Yueyao didn't respond. Her gaze flicked towards the staircase, and without another word, she climbed up slowly, each step making her legs burn with exhaustion.
At the master bedroom door, she paused.
She pushed it open and stepped inside. The familiar scent of sandalwood hit her nose immediately, mixed with the faint musky undertones of Shen Xiao's cologne.
Her stomach lurched violently. This place no longer felt like her matrimonial room, but rather a terrible nightmare.
She covered her mouth with trembling hands as bile rose up her throat feeling like she would vomit.
