Chapter 4 - The Chase in the Alleys

# Chapter Four:

Kai Lin couldn't erase the image of the man who collapsed in the market from his mind. His empty eyes haunted him, and the whispers in his head grew more insistent, as if trying to decipher what he had seen. The stone eye in his pocket radiated a faint coolness, as if confirming that what he had witnessed was not an illusion. There was a hidden world, a world intertwined with reality, and entities that fed on humans. More importantly, he could see this world.

Kai Lin decided to leave the market. He no longer felt safe there. Celestia's winding alleys, once his refuge, now seemed like a labyrinth filled with hidden eyes. He felt a presence watching him, a cold and heavy presence, different from the shadows he had seen before. This presence was more organized, more aware.

As he walked quickly, avoiding the crowds, he noticed something strange. There were two men, dressed in dark coats, standing at a street corner, pretending to talk, but their eyes were watching him. They had no reason to watch him, but his instinct, sharpened by his "Fragmented Perception Disorder," screamed danger.

Kai Lin tried to change his path, to get lost in the narrow alleys, but the two men followed him skillfully. They weren't running, but walking with steady steps, as if they knew every turn and every corner of the city. Kai Lin felt his heart pounding violently. This was not just an ordinary chase. These men were different.

"Who are you? What do you want?" Kai Lin wondered internally, as he tried to find an exit. The whispers in his head grew stronger, turning into a strange rhythm, as if trying to guide him.

Kai Lin reached a dead-end alley. There was a high wall in front of him, and the two men were approaching him slowly, their eyes gleaming in the dark. He felt despair creeping in. Was this the end? Would they discover what he had seen?

At that moment, something strange happened. As the two men approached, Kai Lin felt a rush of cold energy from the stone eye in his pocket. The whispers in his head turned into a song, a strange song, yet familiar. He felt as if his mind was expanding, as if he was seeing the world from a different perspective.

He looked at the two men, and felt as if he could manipulate their perception. He wasn't seeing their bodies, but he was seeing their "presence," their "concept" in this world. He focused on the shadows around him, and on the concept of "disappearance."

In an instant, the two men felt something strange. Kai Lin was in front of their eyes, then he disappeared. He didn't physically disappear, but he disappeared from their perception. They were looking at the spot where he had stood, but they couldn't see him. It was as if he had become part of the shadows, invisible, non-existent.

Kai Lin seized this moment. He moved quickly, slipping through the shadows, past the bewildered men. He didn't know how he did it, but he did. He felt as if a part of his mind had opened, as if a new ability had awakened within him. This ability was not just physical concealment, but a manipulation of the very concept of "sight" and "existence."

Kai Lin ran without stopping, until he reached a more crowded area of the city. He stopped, panting, his heart pounding. He looked at the stone eye in his pocket. It was glowing brighter now, as if celebrating his small victory. He was not alone in this world. There were hidden forces, and he now possessed a part of them. This ability, however simple, was his key to survival in this new and dangerous world. But who were these men? And what did they want from him? The questions piled up, and the mystery deepened.
