"Would you die for me too?" Adam asked his voice a low challenge.
The laughter in the room died instantly. The mercenaries stared at him their amusement replaced by a stunned confusion. Johnny's smile faltered. What was this kid doing? What kind of game was he playing?
But Sophia was not confused. She was not surprised. She smiled a small sad smile. "Of course," she said her voice clear and unwavering.
It was the only answer Adam needed to hear. He summoned a pistol from his inventory. It materialized in his hand its black surface gleaming in the dim light. It had a silencer attached to the barrel.
He aimed the pistol at Sophia.
He smiled at her a look of infinite sadness and unwavering resolve. "I'll save you," he whispered a promise that only she could understand.
He squeezed the trigger.
The silenced pistol coughed once. A single bullet crossed the space between them. It struck Sophia in the head passing straight through her skull.
