Chapter 82
The cradle didn't look magical.
Just old wood smoothed by time, moss growing at the edges, and a faint warmth still lingering in the hollow space where no child lay.
But Kael couldn't stop staring.
Because the warmth wasn't fading.
It was growing.
Eliendara knelt beside it.
"There's no child," she whispered. "No sound. No weight. But it feels like…"
She trailed off.
Kael finished the sentence for her.
"Like something is becoming."
He reached toward it.
The moment his fingers brushed the edge, a soft hum filled the garden—low and melodic, like a lullaby hummed by a universe too tired to sing.
And then… a light.
Not blinding. Not divine.
Just gentle.
A shape took form above the cradle.
Small. Unfinished. Transparent.
A child.Floating.Unborn, but waiting.
Kael's breath caught.
He saw tiny fingers curl, eyes still closed, the faintest flicker of flame at its heart.
But not his flame.
Something else.
Something new.
Eliendara clutched his arm.
"It's not ours," she said.
But then the child stirred.
And both of them felt it:
Recognition.
The First Name appeared behind them, slower now, more faded than before.
Its voice barely touched the air.
"The Dream has a habit of leaving pieces behind. This one was not meant for fire or memory. It is what the Dream dreamed after you spoke."
Kael stared at the glowing child.
"What does that mean?"
The First Name smiled faintly.
"It means you gave the world a reason to begin again. And so it did.Without gods.Without thrones.Without war."
The child opened its eyes.
No gold. No flame. No chaos.
Just light.
Unfiltered. Undecided.
And when it looked at them—
It smiled.
Kael whispered, "Does it have a name?"
The First Name bowed its head.
"No.That is for you to choose."
Eliendara knelt closer. "If we name it… we keep it?"
The First Name did not answer.
It didn't need to.
Kael looked at her.
At the child.
And said softly—
"Then we name it hope."
The light dimmed gently, settling into the cradle.
No more visions. No more prophecy.
Just the fragile hum of something small…
Something human.
Something worth staying for.
