šĀ The Villainess Made Me His Wife
Chapter 29: Kiss Me, Or I'll Disappear
"You have five minutes left. Kiss him, or your existence in this world will begin to erase."
Lin Chaoxi froze.
She had just stepped off set when the system's voice echoed coldly in her mind.
[New Task: Get a kiss from Shen Muyan.
Countdown: 5:00ā¦]
"What kind of ridiculous task is this?!" she hissed in her mind.
[Failure to complete will result in memory deletion. Starting from your identity, then your skillsā¦]
Her fingertips turned cold.
She glanced toward the parking lot. Shen Muyan was leaning against his car, typing on his phone. The night lights above him made his figure glow, calm and distant as always.
It was impossible.
He didn't even like her.
She walked toward him, heart pounding.
"Leaving already?" he asked without looking up.
"Yes." Her voice was quiet. "Can you give me a ride?"
He finally looked at her, surprised. "You have a driver."
"I told him to leave early."
A pause.
Then he unlocked the car door. "Get in."
The ride was quiet.
Too quiet.
Four minutes left.
She clutched her phone like it could save her life. Her mind raced.
Should she fake a fall?
Pretend to be drunk?
No, it would only make him more suspicious.
The car stopped at a red light.
One chance.
She turned to him suddenly. "Can I ask you something?"
Shen Muyan didn't look away from the road. "Hm?"
"If I died tomorrow⦠would you remember me?"
He blinked.
"That's⦠a strange question," he said carefully. "What are you trying to say?"
"I'm just curious," she said. "Would I leave any trace in your life at all?"
Silence.
Something in her eyes made his throat tighten.
"You're not going to die."
"That's not the pointā"
She leaned in.
Close enough to feel his breath.
"Just kiss me," she whispered. "Please."
His eyes widened.
"You're joking."
"I'm not."
"Why?"
"Because I want to feel real. Even for a second."
[00:17ā¦00:16ā¦]
The system voice echoed louder in her head.
[Target hesitating. Do something. Now.]
She closed her eyes and whispered:
"I'm your wife, remember?"
Then she kissed him.
Not on the cheek. Not a peck.
A trembling, desperate kiss.
And to her surpriseā
He didn't pull away.
His fingers reached up, slowly, like he didn't even realize it, brushing her hair back, his lips moving against hersācautious, searching, but not rejecting.
For a brief second, the world stopped spinning.
And thenā
[Task complete.]
The system went silent.
When she pulled back, her eyes were glassy.
He stared at her, breath uneven. "What⦠was that?"
She forced a laugh. "Just⦠acting practice."
"Bullsh*t."
His voice was hoarse.
The light turned green.
But neither of them moved
Not yet.
