Perhaps because all these Qurios were still only larvae, when facing high temperature of Calamity Flame, even though their bodies carried that special energy, they were still burned to ashes.
However, after finally encountering a "big meal" like Logan, how could these Qurios possibly give up so easily?
Amid the pained wails of the aberrant Rathian, the parts of its body where red light had emerged once again lit up.
One Qurio larva after another drew its life energy, rapidly hatched, flapped scarlet wings, and, like moths rushing into flame, swarmed in a dark mass from all directions, trying to approach Logan.
Seeing this, Calamity Flame burned over Logan's body. Instead of retreating, he charged toward that patch of Qurios. White light spread over both wings, and under the ultra-high temperature of the Heat-Blade Wings, these Qurios turned to ash with just the slightest contact.
Having left their original symbiotic host and only retaining "drawing life energy from living creatures" as an instinct left in their genes, the swarm of Qurios was undoubtedly an existence without intelligence. Under a deliberate round of sweeping blows from Logan, these Qurios parasitizing on Rathian's body were very quickly cleared out.
After finishing all this, Logan carefully sensed his own body, and only after confirming that not a single Qurio larva had successfully broken through the flame body to parasitize on him did he withdraw the high temperature on his body and slowly land in front of the Rathian that had just lost a large amount of life energy in a short time.
Facing Logan's body more than 30 meters long, this young Rathian was like a malnourished little chick, and instinctively lowered its own head.
"Roar!"
An emotionless dragon roar came from Logan's mouth. The Rathian lifted its head in disbelief, its throat rolling as a sobbing sound came out.
But after meeting that pair of cold blue eyes, it could only painfully lower its head again, its body trembling slightly as it turned around.
It almost looked back every few steps as it gradually moved away from the Ancient Tree.
It had been driven out!
There was no help for it. Even though, because of Logan's appearance, the Qurios on its body looked as if they had all been forcibly catalyzed out, Logan still did not dare guarantee that no Qurio egg remained inside its body.
For the sake of the group's safe development, he could only drive it out.
Watching the Rathian that spread its wings and flew away after leaving the Ancient Tree, the muscles on Logan's body began to relax. His deep blue eyes swept over all the Fire Wyverns around, especially those Rathians that had just come from the Wildspire Waste. Were their bodies also parasitized by Qurio like that Rathian?
One Fire Wyvern after another lowered its head under Logan's gaze. Unable to make a decision for the moment, Logan spread his wings and flew back to the top level of the Ancient Tree.
He had not expected that what accompanied Kirin's Elder Crossing this time would actually be such a troublesome thing as Qurio. However, when he thought of how the creature that was currently the most suitable symbiotic host for Qurio, the Gaismagorm, seemed to be a guy that was not very good at swimming, his heart settled much more.
Surely a Gaismagorm would not also appear in the New World, right?
There could not possibly be that many Disaster Level monsters in the world.
It was just that, even without the participation of a Gaismagorm, many things still needed to be prepared in advance.
Although for Elder Dragons, as long as they were not in a weakened state and massively parasitized, Qurio did not pose any danger, and they could even in turn plunder the life energy inside Qurio and overcome the aberration…
But for ordinary monsters, getting tainted by this thing was basically tied directly to death.
This was, after all, an existence that symbiotically lived with Disaster Level Elder Dragons; its toxicity was not something non–Elder Dragon creatures could withstand.
Therefore, as Logan pondered, several orders were soon issued.
And the Research Commission, now highly bound to the Ancient Tree, almost at the very moment after Logan issued the orders, perceived the information contained within them, and then slightly asked the cats in Blazefire Village about it.
They very quickly understood the whole course of events. As a hunter riding a Wingdrake flew out from Blazefire Village, Logan's eyes narrowed slightly.
Good, the workers were moving out!
When facing small creatures like Qurio, which possessed extremely high resistance to energy, it was instead not very convenient for large monsters to deal with them.
But for hunters who were agile yet possessed powerful physical killing capability, dealing with these bugs would be much simpler.
...
In the water-rich swampy area inside the Wildspire Waste, dozens of scarlet Qurio were flying around an aberrant Somnacanth. It was the culprit that had brought Qurio to the New World.
Originally parasitized by Qurio in the Old World, it took advantage of the Gaismagorm being injured to escape its original habitat, and then took advantage of Kirin's Elder Crossing to cross the sea all the way here, finally settling down in the swamp of the Wildspire Waste.
Relying on the powerful strength brought by the aberration, the aberrant Somnacanth successfully drove away the Jyuratodus group that lived here and occupied a not-small territory.
Perhaps because it could not find a suitable symbiotic host, the Qurio parasitizing on the Somnacanth did not excessively draw the Somnacanth's life energy. Instead, they reversed course and injected into the Somnacanth the life energy they had collected from the Jyuratodus group.
They did so until this guy had firmly established itself.
However, this approach had already stopped some time ago. As Qurio spread, they were no longer satisfied with a host like Somnacanth and instead turned toward other powerful individuals within the Wildspire Waste.
But for Somnacanth, its current strength was already enough to survive on this unfamiliar land.
Although its lifespan had been greatly reduced because of Qurio's toxicity, and even because of these toxins its temper had become unusually irritable…
Barely surviving was still better than dying. If it had been willing to just wait for death in place, it would not have risked following Kirin to come here.
It was just that its life, as of today, had also come to an end.
While silently enduring the erosion of the toxins and patrolling its new territory, leaving its own marks, the Somnacanth did not notice the big black hedgehog in the sky.
When it heard an urgent sound cutting through air, Nergigante had already rushed to above its head.
Even though it had been greatly strengthened by Qurio and had, in terms of strength, even crossed beyond the ecological niche it originally belonged to, when facing a monster like Nergigante, the Somnacanth still did not have much ability to resist.
Pressed violently into the swamp, several spikes directly pierced through its body. In less than one minute, this new overlord of the swamp, an absolute invasive species, died under Nergigante's hands.
Looking at the motionless Somnacanth, Nergigante stretched out its tongue and licked its lips, then stood there with relaxed muscles.
It was waiting!
Waiting for these red little bugs to take the initiative to "parasitize" it.
Just like in Logan's situation, as Somnacanth died, the Qurio parasitizing on its body all broke from their shells and continuously gathered toward Nergigante.
And Nergigante withdrew its spikes, allowing these "cute" little bugs to cling onto its body.
Very soon, this large swarm of small creatures actually covered nearly half of Nergigante's body.
The toxin of Qurio carried paralytic components, so Nergigante could almost not feel the slightest pain.
Sensing its life energy beginning to be absorbed by these little things, the big black hedgehog's eyes lit up. It knew the time had come!
It directly reversed the energy, invading these Qurio in turn.
Almost instantly, the bodies of these Qurio shrank rapidly, and the life energy they had plundered from Somnacanth was quickly absorbed by Nergigante.
As one of the rare Elder Dragons that could devour energy through eating, in front of it, the plundering ability of these Qurio simply did not amount to anything.
As a large number of Qurio fell off and their bodies were absorbed by the swamp, Nergigante revealed a satisfied expression.
At this moment, it felt that Mother Nature still loved it. Although this came two years late, this "buffet" compensation had finally arrived.
