Chapter 9 - A Surprising Corpse

Being a night watchman was very boring. But that was the life of Fey Riley. In particular, she worked as the head of the overnight security division at Black Iron Mountain National Park.

The park closed at 10, so the night staff only got about an hour where there were actually people in the park. The rest of the time? Just lounge around and do the occasional patrol down the mountain.

It was nearly 1AM now, just about time for Fey's patrolling shift. On her way out of the lodge, she grabbed her trusty flashlight and keys. She locked the lodge, and began to walk up the mountain.

The other thing about Black Iron Mountain is that there was almost nothing to do there. Aside from hiking trails, the park also offered a swimming pool and ropes course near the base of the mountain. However, considering they were outlandishly overpriced and commonplace around the world, people came to the park exclusively for the hikes and views.

As Fey made her way up the road, she began to whistle. She made sure to pace herself, not going too fast or slow. This was to ensure she got back at the right time for the end of her shift, not too early or late.

Eventually, she arrived at the parking lot halfway up the summit. Expecting to find no cars there, when she came across the parking lot, she was shocked to find a single car parked there.

She walked over to it, noticing an odorous scent coming from the vehicle. She looked around it, inspecting it a bit.

It appeared to be an outdated vehicle, having been built many years ago. However, she still could not trace the source of the smell.

That was, until she turned to the back of the car.

When she arrived at the back of the car, to her disgust and shock, she discovered a finger poking of the the trunk. She nearly fainted right then and there.

She was able to keep her composure, until she opened the trunk. She screamed aloud.

Hanging out the back of the trunk was not just any bloodied corpse, but the body of one of the Heroes Council members, Rokada, who had just gone missing the other day.
