Chapter 10 - Not Just A Dream

"Holy shit," Kevlon muttered to himeslf. How could this have been? He was certain. It must've been part of his dream. There's no way that this was really happening. He'd just seen Rokada a mere few hours ago, right before he fell asleep. He had reassured his own safety! There's no way he could've died between then and now, right?

He shut off the screen that was currently playing news, flipping over to a different source: an article that provided more details on the incident. It claimed that a park ranger at the nearby Black Iron National Park had found his body in the trunk of a random car.

Kevlon was even more shocked by this news. In the aftermath of the apocalypse, not much nature existed, so having a national park like that one not far from home meant going to it a lot whilst growing up.

He continued reading, and learned they'd done an autopsy on Rokada. The scientists found that his initial cause of death was likely asphyxiation, though he'd later been shot multiple times.

Kevlon, realizing he'd already wasted time, ran downstairs to alert the Heroes Council. He burst through the door, expecting to find the council in their usual position, idling at the desk. However, to his shock, the lights were off and the room was empty.

He looked around a bit, hoping he wasn't missing something, but he was right. It was empty. He double checked the article again, and found it was posted nearly a week ago.

Wait a minute, a week ago?

That couldn't have been right, he was sleeping for a week? He shook it off, and ran towards the elevator. He took it down to the lobby level, finding only receptionists there. He approached one.

"Excuse me," he asked. "Do you know what today is?"

She glanced up at him oddly, but read the date aloud. It made his eyes go wide. The article was right - a week really had passed! He tried to remember what had happened, but everything was just a blur.

Now that he thought about it, everything was a blur. All of his memories. He couldn't seem to remember much more than base level details.

A man called out from behind him. "Hey, Kevlon!" he yelled. "We've been looking everywhere for you!"

Kevlon turned to face him. It seemed like he should know who this person was, but he just didn't for some reason. "I'm sorry, who are you?" he asked.

The man's grin turned to a frown quickly. "You don't know?"

"I'm afraid I don't."

The smile returned. He started laughing. "Come over here. We've got a lot of talking to do."
