Turn 3 - Serena
The tension in the sealed dueling ground was thick, crackling with unspoken promises of escalation. Ryuki couldn't help but let out a low whistle as he observed the battlefield.
"Kazuma's really tightened the grip on this duel in one turn," Ryuki muttered, impressed at how decisively Kazuma had set the pace.
Beside him, Kazumi crossed his arms, a small knowing smile playing at the corner of his lips. "I had to drill that into him. Kazuma used to hesitate with his first plays, too cautious for a Shadow Paladin duelist. I taught him that his clan's strength lies in taking control—establishing their rhythm before the opponent finds theirs."
Ryuki nodded, eyes sharp as they followed Serena. His instincts, honed through battles far harsher than this tournament, whispered a warning. "Still... Kazuma shouldn't let his guard down. She's not the type to fold just because she's at 900 LP. There's fire in that one's eyes."
Indeed, on the field, Serena straightened, breathing deep to steady her pulse. The sting of Kazuma's last turn still echoed in her mind—she'd never been driven so close to the edge this quickly. But the pressure only hardened her resolve. No... I can't lose here. Not to him. Not to anyone.
Her voice rang out, clear and defiant. "My turn! Draw!"
The card she drew seemed to shine in her hand, as if answering her determination. "I may have been caught off guard last turn... but not this time!"
She slapped down a card. "I summon Moonlight Black Sheep!"
A new figure joined her side—a lithe girl in a black gym suit, curved horns sprouting from her back like crescent moons, her eyes glinting with mischief.
Moonlight Black Sheep
Level 2 / DARK / Beast-Warrior / Effect
ATK: 100 / DEF: 600
"And now," Serena continued, gaining momentum, "I activate my set card—Lunar Drip! Since I control a Moonlight monster, I draw one card for every Special Summoned monster you control. I count three—so I draw three cards!"
Her hand moved like lightning, drawing three cards in swift succession. The glint in her eye sharpened—her spirit rekindled.
Ryuki's gaze narrowed, the change in her aura impossible to ignore. There it is. That fire. She's found her counterstroke.
Serena's next play came fast and sure. "I activate Fusion Sage! This lets me add one Polymerization from my Deck to my hand!"
As the card slid into her grasp, she smirked. The tide was turning.
"Now I activate Polymerization! I fuse Moonlight Black Sheep on my field with Moonlight Purple Butterfly in my hand!"
The black sheep bounded upward, while a radiant woman with violet butterfly wings and a white-violet gym suit appeared. Together, they spun into a vortex of violet light.
"The beast luring in jet-black darkness... butterfly that wields violet poison! Swirl into a vortex of the moon's gravity, and become a new power! Fusion Summon! Come to me, Level 7! Beautiful beast that dances in the moonlight—Moonlight Cat Dancer!"
Out of the vortex leapt a graceful, deadly figure—a woman in a flowing dress, twin daggers flashing in both hands, her movements like a predator's dance beneath the moon.
Moonlight Cat Dancer
Level 7 / DARK / Beast-Warrior / Fusion / Effect
ATK: 2400 / DEF: 2000
"Since I used Black Sheep as a fusion material, I return it to my hand from the Graveyard!" Serena announced, retrieving the card. "Then I activate two spells from my hand, Moonlight Guidance and Moonlight Perfume! With Guidance, I Special Summon Black Sheep from my hand. With Perfume, I Special Summon Purple Butterfly from my Graveyard!"
In two blinding bursts of moonlight, her field was refilled. The black sheep and violet butterfly stood proud at either side of Cat Dancer.
Moonlight Black Sheep
Level 2 / DARK / Beast-Warrior / Effect
ATK: 100 / DEF: 600
Moonlight Purple Butterfly
Level 3 / DARK / Beast-Warrior / Effect
ATK: 1000 / DEF: 1000
"I activate Purple Butterfly's effect! I release her to boost the ATK of one Fusion Monster I control by 1000! And of course—my Cat Dancer is the beneficiary!"
The butterfly dissolved into motes of violet energy that flowed into Cat Dancer's form, her daggers glowing ever brighter.
Moonlight Cat Dancer
ATK: 2400 → 3400
Kazuma's brow furrowed. Her monster's ATK already surpassed Carnivore Dragon's... He braced for what was to come.
Serena wasn't done. "I activate Pot of Greed—I draw two cards!"
With her resources replenished, her confidence soared. "Now I activate Cat Dancer's effect! I release Black Sheep, and now Cat Dancer can attack all monsters on your field twice each this turn! And your monsters won't be destroyed in battle by the first attack!"
Kazuma's eyes widened as the realization hit. "Wait... if they won't be destroyed the first time... then I'll take double battle damage?!"
Serena's grin was sharp as a dagger. "Too late to worry about that now! Cat Dancer—attack Carnivore Dragon!"
Black Sheep vanished as tribute, and Cat Dancer lunged with breathtaking speed. But Kazuma's countermeasure was ready.
"Trap open!—Shadow Shield! Since I haven't taken damage this Battle Phase, I can activate this to halve all damage I take for the rest of this phase!"
Ryuki smirked. "Smart play. Cuts the damage in half. That'll buy him precious time."
Kazumi nodded, arms folded. "He wanted to save that card for later, but now's as good a time as any."
The clash began.
Cat Dancer's first strike against Carnivore Dragon carved into its shadowed scales, forcing Kazuma's Life Points down.
Kazuma: 4000 → 3900
The second strike hit harder, piercing the dragon's defenses and finally bringing it down in a burst of black energy.
Kazuma: 3900 → 3800
Serena's eyes flashed. "Next—Cat Dancer, target Dragwizard, Cian!"
Her dancer twirled and slashed at Cian, who barely deflected the first blow with his grimoire's magic. Even so, Kazuma took damage.
Kazuma: 3800 → 2750
Before he could recover, Cat Dancer's second strike shattered Cian's defenses, reducing him to ash.
Kazuma: 2750 → 1700
"Keep going! Cat Dancer—Fuanmach is next!"
Fuanmach tried to shield herself with dark sorcery, but the attack still pushed Kazuma back.
Kazuma: 1700 → 1000
Cat Dancer closed the distance in an instant, striking from behind and ending Fuanmach with a swift dagger through the heart.
Kazuma: 1000 → 300
Kazuma winced, his breath ragged, but his gaze never left Serena's. His body bore the weight of the assault, but his spirit burned on. He lifted a hand calmly.
"I activate my Trap—Ritual Draw! For every Ritual monster that was destroyed this turn, I draw one card. That's three cards for me."
His fingers moved with steady precision as three cards slid into his hand. Every resource matters now.
Serena exhaled sharply, finally slowing. "I set two cards face-down... and end my turn. At this moment, Cat Dancer's ATK returns to normal."
Moonlight Cat Dancer
ATK: 3400 → 2400
Her chest rose and fell with the exertion of the turn, but the satisfaction of turning the duel around lit her features. Let's see you claw your way back from that.
Serena: 900 | Hand: 0
Kazuma: 300 | Hand: 4
Turn 4 - Kazuma
The air around the battlefield was heavy, the tension so thick that even the faintest breeze felt like a storm ready to break. Kazuma stood at the edge of defeat, his Life Points perilously low, yet his eyes remained clear, his spirit unshaken.
"Kazuma's at the backfoot now," Kazumi muttered, watching his brother with the calm intensity of a seasoned strategist. His gaze flicked to Ryuki, sharp and questioning. "He's got six Level 4 monsters in his grave already. Ryuki—you thinking what I'm thinking?"
Ryuki's lips curled into the ghost of a grin. His PSYqualia-sensitized mind could almost feel the storm Kazuma was about to unleash. "Yeah. Kazuma's going all in this turn. He knows this is the moment to strike. But the question is, when will he go for the kill?"
Kazuma drew his next card with a swift, practiced motion. The card's edge gleamed briefly in the light of the Real Solid Vision field.
She really pushed me to the brink there. He clenched the card between his fingers, his mind running back over the narrow margin that Shadow Shield had bought him. If I'd hesitated, if I'd saved that trap for later... I'd be done for. No more holding back.
His voice rang out, firm and resolute. "My turn! Draw!"
The moment the card touched his hand, he set his course. "I summon Dragwizard, Naoise!"
A pillar of blue fire erupted from the earth, and from its heart emerged a figure cloaked in dark robes, white hair cascading down his shoulders. In one hand he held a weathered grimoire; in the other, a staff crowned by the likeness of a dragon's head, its eyes aglow with infernal power.
Dragwizard, Naoise
Level 4 / DARK / Elf / Effect / Ritual 3
ATK: 2000 / DEF: 1200
"Naoise's Ritual! When this card is summoned, I look at the top five cards of my deck and Special Summon one Level 4 or lower monster from among them!"
Five cards rose from Kazuma's deck, fanned out in the air like a hand of fate. His gaze darted over them—his choice clear.
"I Special Summon Dragwizard, Knies!"
Another pillar of dark fire burst forth. From within stepped a lean figure—a boy with snowy hair, an eyepatch shadowing his left eye, and a staff tipped with a ruby sphere that pulsed like a heartbeat.
Dragwizard, Knies
Level 4 / DARK / Elf / Effect / Ritual 3
ATK: 1400 / DEF: 1200
The remaining cards folded back into his deck, which shuffled itself with a quiet hum.
Kazuma wasted no time. His voice was a call to the abyss. "I activate the Spell Card—Nightfall Fusion! I fuse Naoise and Knies on my field!"
Both wizards were consumed by black and violet flames, their forms spiraling upward into a vortex that raged with the promise of ruin.
"From the silent shadows, the heart of a dragon beats through fate!
I call upon the heart of the abyss that rallies the fallen!
Let its dark pulse summon forth the vanguard of ruin!
Fusion Summon!
Arise, Level 7—Dragheart, Luard!!"
The maelstrom parted, revealing a majestic figure. Luard descended like a king of shadows—blond hair billowing, his left arm a draconic limb glinting with lethal power. His eyes burned with resolve.
Dragheart, Luard
Level 7 / DARK / Elf / Fusion / Effect / Ritual 3
ATK: 2500 / DEF: 2000
Ryuki inhaled slowly, his heart quickening at the sight of the legendary form. "There it is... Kazuma's vanguard. The soul of his Shadow Paladins."
Kazuma continued, his voice steady. "When Luard is Fusion Summoned, I can Special Summon one Level 4 or lower monster from my hand or Graveyard! Return, Morfessa!"
A dark portal opened beneath his feet, and from it rose Dragwizard, Morfessa, her form draped in pitch-black robes, her dragon-forged arms clutching a staff that glowed with inner fire.
Dragwizard, Morfessa
Level 4 / DARK / Elf / Effect / Ritual 3
ATK: 2000 / DEF: 1100
The field had shifted. The Shadow Paladin vanguard was assembled.
"Battle!" Kazuma commanded, pointing forward. "Luard—attack Moonlight Cat Dancer!"
Luard raised his draconic arm, a massive red glyph forming in his palm. It pulsed once, then fired a beam of pure destruction at Cat Dancer.
But Serena was ready. "I activate my Continuous Trap—Moonlight Guard! Once per turn, I prevent my 'Moonlight' monster from being destroyed by battle or card effects!"
A silver barrier snapped into place, deflecting the beam—but not before Serena felt its force.
Serena: 900 → 800
Kazuma's gaze hardened. She's resilient... but I'll break through.
"Morfessa! Attack Moonlight Cat Dancer!"
Serena's brow furrowed. "What?! She has 2000 ATK—you'll lose your monster!"
Kazuma's voice was low, confident. "Morfessa's Ritual activates! When she attacks, she gains 1000 ATK!"
Dragwizard, Morfessa
ATK: 2000 → 3000
Morfessa lunged forward, her staff crackling with dark energy. A blast of red lightning erupted from its tip, striking Cat Dancer dead on. The shockwave threw Serena back a step as her Life Points plummeted.
Serena: 800 → 200
"And since Morfessa destroyed a monster, I activate her effect! I search my deck for a 'Ritual' monster and add it to my hand. I choose Dragwizard, Midir!"
Kazuma swiftly retrieved the card, his mind already turning over the next move.
But Serena wasn't done either. "Since my Cat Dancer was destroyed, I activate my Trap—Moonlight Reincarnation Dance! When a Moonlight Fusion Monster is destroyed, I can add two Moonlight monsters from my Deck to my hand. I choose Moonlight Kaleido Chick and Moonlight Silver Doe!"
Two cards slid into her hand, and the glint in her eye told Kazuma she was already plotting her retaliation.
Kazuma's thoughts raced. She's setting up for something. Those two will let her come back hard next turn. But I've laid my field—I just need to be ready. One more mistake, and it's over for me. I need options in my hand.
He glanced at his hand—three cards. Enough to defend, enough to counter.
"I end my turn." His tone was firm, resolute. "At this moment, Morfessa's ATK returns to normal."
Dragwizard, Morfessa
ATK: 3000 → 2000
As the battlefield quieted for a moment, the storm of their duel paused only briefly, each duelist drawing breath before the next clash. The watching Ryuki and Kazumi felt the weight of the moment. The next turn would decide everything.
Serena: 200 | Hand: 2
Kazuma: 300 | Hand: 3
Turn 5 — Serena
A tense silence had settled over the battlefield, broken only by the faint hum of the Real Solid Vision field. The intensity of the duel had pushed everyone present to the edge of their seats. And now, at a critical moment, a figure stirred.
Barret, Serena's loyal bodyguard, rose unsteadily from where he had been thrown aside earlier. His gaze, sharp and protective, swept over the duel unfolding before him. His fists clenched, eyes burning with determination as he prepared to intervene.
But before he could act, Serena raised a hand, her fingers trembling slightly from the tension—but her resolve was clear. "Barret. Don't."
Barret froze. His loyalty warred with his instinct to protect her. "Serena-sama... The situation is against you. Let me take them on. I'll buy you time. You don't need to fight alone—"
"No!" Serena's voice rang out, firm despite the chaos inside her. She shook her head, defiance flaring in her eyes. "This is my battle. I'll prove to the Professor that I'm not weak. That I can stand on my own."
Barret's jaw tightened. He wanted to argue, to shield her from danger—but he understood. This wasn't just a duel anymore. This was Serena's declaration of strength. He glanced at Ryuki and Kazumi, suspicion in his gaze—but he held back.
Ryuki's voice cut through the tension, cold and unflinching. "You don't even understand what you're trying to prove, Serena. What good is power if you use it for the wrong cause?"
Barret's head snapped toward him. "Watch your mouth! You know nothing of the Professor's vision!"
Ryuki met his glare without hesitation. "I know enough. What kind of peace do you think comes from dimensional genocide? You're fighting for a dream built on ashes."
Serena's breath caught. The words hit harder than she expected, as if some invisible wall she had built around her beliefs had cracked just a little. But Barret's voice was quick to steady her. "Don't listen, Serena-sama. Stay focused. Prove yourself on the field. That's all that matters now."
Serena inhaled slowly, forcing the storm in her heart to quiet. She turned her attention back to Kazuma—her true opponent. I'll fight. I'll show him the strength of my will.
"My turn! Draw!" Her voice rang with renewed determination.
She scanned the card she drew, then her eyes gleamed as a plan formed. "I activate the Spell Card—Fusion Recovery! I return Polymerization and Moonlight Black Sheep from my Graveyard to my hand!"
The two cards slid back into her grasp, and Serena felt a flicker of confidence. The pieces are coming together.
"I summon Moonlight Kaleido Chick!"
A soft glow enveloped the field as a small, caped girl with bright eyes and the energy of youth leapt onto Serena's field, her presence a herald of the comeback Serena intended to forge.
Moonlight Kaleido Chick
Level 4 / DARK / Beast-Warrior / Effect
ATK: 1400 / DEF: 800
"I activate Kaleido Chick's effect! I send a copy of Moonlight Cat Dancer from my Extra Deck to the Graveyard! Now Kaleido Chick is treated as Cat Dancer if I use it as Fusion Material!"
The phantom image of Cat Dancer shimmered around the small warrior, merging with her essence.
"Then, I activate Polymerization! I fuse Kaleido Chick—now treated as Cat Dancer—on my field, with Moonlight Silver Doe from my hand!"
A swirling vortex of violet energy consumed the two monsters as Serena's voice rose in a proud chant:
"Beautiful beast dancing in the night,
Elegant beast running through silver fields—
Swirl into the moon's gravity and become a new power!
Fusion Summon! Appear, Level 8—
Elegant beast dancing in the moonlit wilderness! Moonlight Panther Dancer!"
The winds howled as the new monster took the stage—a lithe, graceful warrior draped in dancer's attire, her claws elongated and glinting dangerously beneath the moon's light.
Moonlight Panther Dancer
Level 8 / DARK / Beast-Warrior / Fusion / Effect
ATK: 2800 / DEF: 2500
"I activate Silver Doe's effect from the Graveyard! Since it was used as Fusion Material, I draw one card for every Fusion Monster in my Graveyard! I have two Cat Dancers—so I draw two cards!"
Her hand now refreshed, Serena's heart pounded. The momentum was hers to seize.
"Battle!" she declared. Her voice was fierce, the fire of her determination blazing. "Panther Dancer! Attack Dragheart, Luard! And don't forget—Panther Dancer can attack all your monsters twice each turn!"
Kazuma's eyes narrowed. So she's got the same kind of effect as Cat Dancer—but stronger. And no tribute cost. This is bad...
Serena grinned, sensing his tension. "Too late for you to realize it! Panther Dancer—end this!"
But Kazuma was ready.
"Trap open—Burrowed Time! I target my Level 7 Luard and set his ATK to 0! And he can't be destroyed this turn!"
Barret's eyes widened in shock. "Is he mad?! He's handing her the win?!"
Kazuma shook his head. "Oh, I'm not done. Burrowed Time's true effect activates! Any battle damage I'd take from this monster? It's added to my Life Points instead!"
The field froze. Time seemed to stop for a heartbeat as Serena's eyes widened in horror. "WHAT?!"
Panther Dancer's claws slashed across Luard, but instead of finishing Kazuma, the surge of damage was absorbed into his soul like a tide reversed.
Dragheart, Luard
ATK: 2500 → 0
Kazuma: 300 → 3100
And with Panther Dancer's second strike—
Kazuma: 3100 → 5900
"No!" Serena gasped. But she wasn't done. "Panther Dancer—attack Morfessa!"
Her monster's claws struck true.
Kazuma: 5900 → 5100
Panther Dancer struck again, destroying Morfessa at last.
Kazuma: 5100 → 4300
The field fell quiet, the echoes of the last blow fading into the night. Serena stood there, her chest heaving from the intensity of the assault—and the crushing realization that she had failed to finish it.
She clenched her fist. Damn it... I was so close. So close.
But Kazuma stood taller now, his LP far from the brink where she had him moments ago. His eyes burned with determination—and something more. Resolve forged in adversity.
Serena drew a slow breath. It's not over. Not yet. "I set two cards face-down. I end my turn."
As she lowered her arm, the moonlight that bathed the battlefield seemed colder, the weight of what had slipped through her fingers heavy on her shoulders.
Dragheart, Luard
ATK: 0 → 2500
Serena: 200 | Hand: 1
Kazuma: 4300 | Hand: 3
Turn 6 — Kazuma
Serena clenched her fists, frustration biting at her as she stared at Kazuma across the field. Tch... I should have ended him right then and there. The sting of letting victory slip through her fingers was unbearable.
From the sidelines, Ryuki leaned against a cracked pillar, his sharp gaze focused on her. His arms were crossed, but there was no mockery in his tone—only honest critique. "Looks like this is your first time facing a situation like this, isn't it?"
Serena scowled. "What do you mean?"
Ryuki tilted his head slightly, as if genuinely puzzled that she hadn't realized. "From watching you duel, it's obvious. You duel exactly as Academia taught you—by the book, textbook perfect. You expect your plays to go as planned because that's what you were trained to believe would happen. But that's not dueling. That's naivety."
Her brow furrowed deeper. "Naivety? How so?"
"A duel isn't over until your opponent's Life Points hit zero," Ryuki replied, his voice calm but firm. "You might think you have the upper hand, but one card can flip the tide in an instant. Look at your last turn. You thought it was over—but it wasn't. Your lack of flexibility cost you."
Barret, standing nearby with a protective glare, scoffed. "Foolishness. Without a well-structured, precise strategy, victory is impossible. That's the foundation of Academia's strength."
Kazumi finally spoke, his eyes closed as if recalling old lessons. "True—but you people at Academia have forgotten the simplest truth of dueling. You must adapt. One card, one moment—that's all it takes to create infinite possibilities."
Ryuki nodded, his voice carrying a quiet weight. "Victory belongs to the one who can see beyond the textbook."
Kazuma's hand hovered over his deck. He met Serena's eyes, the fire in his gaze burning brighter. "And I'll prove it to you. My turn—draw!"
He drew, the card sliding into his hand, and the breath he took was sharp—because his deck had answered his call. The card glimmered in the fading light of the field, and Kazuma's lips curled into a determined grin.
"This will do the trick. I activate the Spell Card—Oath Bounded by Shadow!"
The name alone sent a ripple of unease through the air. Serena's eyes narrowed. "What kind of card is that?"
Kazuma raised the card high, its dark glyphs glowing ominously. "By paying half my Life Points and skipping my next two Draw Phases, I can draw one card for every Level 4 or lower 'Ritual' monster in my graveyard!"
His Life Points dropped, but his spirit only soared higher.
Kazuma: 4300 → 2150
"You're betting everything on that?!" Serena demanded.
Kazuma's grin didn't falter. "You don't get anything if you don't risk everything. That's a lesson I learned the hard way."
He swept his hand across the field. "I have eight Level 4 or lower Ritual monsters in my graveyard—so I draw eight cards!"
The cards flew from his deck like a storm, fanning into his hand. The crowd—Ryuki, Kazumi, even Barret—watched with bated breath as Kazuma's hand swelled to eleven cards.
"Now let me show you the true power of my Shadow Paladins!" Kazuma declared, his voice echoing across the silent field.
"Luard's Ritual! As long as I have at least three Level 4 or lower monsters in my graveyard, I can Fusion Summon once per turn without using a Fusion Spell!"
Serena's eyes went wide. "You're kidding..."
Kazuma raised his arm. "I fuse Dragheart, Luard on my field with Dragwizard Uscias and Dragwizard Midir from my hand!"
The three wizards rose into the air, consumed by a dark blue vortex as Kazuma began his chant, voice ringing with power.
"From the abyss where all light fades,
A terror awakens!
I call upon the strider who tramples hope beneath claw and fang!
Let the earth quake beneath its dread march!
Fusion Summon!
Emerge, Level 12—Dragstrider, Luard!"
The ground trembled as the vortex burst open. A monstrous figure emerged—Luard, but transformed, his body fully draconic, with black wings spanning wide, a spiked tail lashing behind, and veins of blue and magenta light pulsing across his dark form. The roar he unleashed seemed to shake the entire parking lot.
Dragstrider, Luard
Level 12 / DARK / Abyss Dragon / Fusion / Effect / Ritual 7
ATK: 3500 / DEF: 3500
Barret staggered back a step, the sheer pressure of the creature's presence overwhelming. "What... what is that thing?!"
"A monster born from Kazuma's will," Ryuki said quietly. "And a symbol of his refusal to lose."
"When Dragstrider, Luard is Fusion Summoned, I can Special Summon two Level 4 or lower monsters from my graveyard—and they gain 700 ATK! Return to the field—Morfessa, Cian!"
Twin pillars of bluish flame erupted as Morfessa and Cian appeared once more, their eyes burning with purpose.
Dragwizard, Morfessa
ATK: 2000 → 2700
Dragwizard, Cian
ATK: 1300 → 2000
Kazuma thrust his arm forward. "Battle! Dragstrider, Luard! Attack Moonlight Panther Dancer! And now, Ritual 7!!"
Luard's Ritual 7 activated—the dark dragon's flames flared as Kazuma revealed his final gambit. "If I have more than seven Level 4 or lower monsters in my graveyard, I can discard any number of cards in my hand, I discard all cards in my hand—Luard gains 400 ATK for each card!"
One by one, the nine cards in Kazuma's hand fell to the graveyard like leaves in the wind. And with each card, Luard's power swelled, the fire in his claws growing hotter, his wings beating harder.
Dragstrider, Luard
ATK: 3500 → 7100
Serena took a step back, her heart hammering. "7100...?!"
Kazuma's eyes blazed. "And that's not all! With Ritual 7 active, he can attack twice—and you can't activate any card effects in response!"
The final blow had been set. There would be no traps, no spells, no salvation. Luard let loose his fireballs, followed by a searing breath of flame that engulfed Panther Dancer, reducing her to ash.
Serena: 200 → 0
Winner: Shoji Kazuma
-----
The field fell silent, the only sound the crackling remnants of Luard's fury. The wind stirred the dust of the battlefield as Kazuma lowered his arm, breathing heavily but standing tall.
Serena sank to her knees, the reality of defeat washing over her. She hadn't just lost a duel—she had been shown a truth she'd never been taught. One that shook the foundation of everything she believed about battle.
As the last embers of the duel flickered out, silence hung over the field like a heavy fog. Serena remained on her knees, her chest rising and falling with shallow breaths. The cold reality of defeat sank deep into her heart, but it wasn't just the loss that weighed on her—it was the seed of doubt now blooming inside her. For the first time, she questioned if the lessons of Academia, the very foundation of her training, had been flawed all along.
Was this what it meant to duel in the real world? Was this what they never taught me back home?
Before she could gather her thoughts further, she noticed Ryuki stepping forward, his expression calm but firm, as if intending to speak. But before he could close the distance, Barret sprang up, interposing himself between Ryuki and Serena with unwavering resolve. His lone eye glinted with determination. His body, though battered from the shock of the duel, radiated a readiness to protect.
"If you want to approach Serena-sama," Barret growled, his voice low and dangerous, "you'll have to go through me. Even if it means I fight all three of you at once."
Kazumi placed his hands on his pockets as he walked towards Barret, his own duelist's spirit ignited after witnessing Kazuma's victory. His eyes gleamed with anticipation. "I wouldn't mind that. After seeing my brother pull that off, I'm itching for a duel myself. My Nubatama are eager to fight as well."
But before any of them could act, a calm, authoritative voice echoed through the area. "There's no need. I'll be the one to face him."
From the shadows, a figure emerged. Sharp, composed, and unmistakable—Akaba Reiji.
"Reiji...?" Ryuki raised an eyebrow, surprised at the sudden appearance. "What are you doing here?"
Reiji's gaze swept over the group, his expression unreadable. "I came to confirm something with my own eyes. And since Barret here seems intent on dueling, I'll take that responsibility myself."
Ryuki shared a glance with Kazumi. "Leave him to Reiji," he instructed softly. Kazumi hesitated for only a moment before nodding, stepping back.
The duel that followed could only be described as a masterclass—a perfect display of Akaba Reiji's brilliance. Barret fought with everything he had, his Beastborg deck launching powerful strikes that chipped away at Reiji's Life Points. But Reiji, ever the tactician, countered flawlessly. His D/D/D Marksman King Tell and his Domination Keyword turned the tide, rebounding Barret's damage straight back at him. Each move was decisive, calculated, and merciless.
From the sidelines, Kazuma and Kazumi watched, wide-eyed.
"Ryuki-san..." Kazuma whispered. "How did someone from the Standard Dimension get a Keyword?"
Kazumi folded his arms, equally puzzled. "Keywords... they're not supposed to exist here."
Ryuki didn't take his eyes off the duel. His voice was low. "I'll explain everything... once everyone is gathered."
Moments later, Reiji's victory was sealed as Barret collapsed from the sheer force of the final strike. His monster's attack overwhelmed Barret's remaining defenses, knocking him unconscious.
Reiji didn't waste time. He approached Serena, offering his hand. His tone softened, yet remained formal. "You must be Serena, I'm Akaba Reiji. I'm the president of LDS—and Akaba Leo's son."
Serena blinked, confused by the revelation. "The Proffesor's... son?" She slowly took his hand, standing. The pieces in her mind didn't quite fit.
"I met you years ago in the Fusion Dimension," Reiji continued. "You probably don't remember. You were one of the few duelists my father kept an eye on."
That revelation struck Serena harder than she expected. The memories were faint, like echoes. She frowned. "So what? Are you here because your father sent you?"
"Not a chance, my father had abandoned me and my mother long ago." Reiji said firmly. "I'm here because I want to know the truth. Tell me, Serena—did you come to Standard under Leo's orders?"
The question sparked something inside Serena—anger, resentment, and a burning desire to prove herself. "No! I came here of my own will!" she snapped. Her fists clenched. "And it's your fault! I remember you. Because of you, I was sheltered for years! Because of you, I was caged!"
Ryuki took a step forward, his tone calm but questioning. "If that's true... then why is Barret here with you? If you came without the Professor's permission, shouldn't you be alone?"
Serena hesitated, the fire in her voice dimming. "Barret followed me. He's been assigned as my bodyguard ever since I was given any freedom at all. He came to keep me safe."
Reiji gave a slow nod. His gaze softened, the mask of the tactician slipping just slightly. "Then allow me to offer you something." He took a deep breath, the weight of his words clear. "I intend to form a strike force. A group dedicated to stopping my father's ambitions... to protect this world. Join us, Serena. Join the Lancers."
Serena stared at him as if he'd lost his mind. "You're insane. The reason I'm here is to hunt down Xyz remnants and prove myself to the Professor! I have no interest in your crusade!"
But as the words left her lips, they rang hollow. Ryuki's earlier warning echoed in her mind. Multi-dimensional genocide. She clenched her teeth, the weight of that possibility gnawing at her resolve.
Her eyes flicked to Ryuki. "You said something... about the Professor's plans. About the genocide. What did you mean?"
Ryuki's expression hardened, his voice unwavering. "If you want to know the truth, Serena, then stay with us. See for yourself. You won't believe it until you do."
She grunted in frustration. Every instinct screamed at her to run—but she knew there was no escaping the truth now. If I don't stay... I'll never know. She took a deep breath, then spoke. "Fine. I'll stay—but on one condition."
Ryuki raised an eyebrow. "Name it."
"I want to duel you. No interference, no interruptions. Just you and me. I want to see for myself how strong you are—the one who defeated Yuri."
Ryuki's lips curled into a small smile. "Simple enough. I accept."
As the tension eased slightly, Barret stirred, slowly regaining consciousness. His eye widened as he saw Serena surrounded. He tried to rise, ready to fight—but Serena stopped him with a raised hand. "Stand down, Barret."
He hesitated. For the first time, his instinct to protect clashed with her command. But in the end, loyalty won. He lowered his arm, nodding silently.
Reiji noted the exchange, genuine surprise flickering across his face. "Barret... You obey her without hesitation?"
Barret's voice was steady. "Ever since I was assigned to her, Serena-sama's well-being has been my priority. I follow her will. That will never change."
Reiji nodded thoughtfully. "Your loyalty is... admirable."
Barret looked to Ryuki, the intensity in his gaze returning. "You spoke of things—things I cannot ignore. How accurate is the information you claim to have?"
Ryuki met his gaze without flinching. "As accurate as it gets. I swear it by my deck—by every card I hold dear. It's the truth."
Barret held his gaze for a long moment. Then he closed his eye and let out a slow breath. "Very well. I will stand at Serena-sama's side. Not for your cause—but for her."
Before the dust could settle on the shifting alliances, Reiji turned his attention to Kazuma and Kazumi. His gaze was sharp once again, assessing. "And you two—who are you?"
Ryuki answered for them. "Shoji Kazuma—the one who dueled Serena. And Onimaru Kazumi, his brother. My friends, and my comrades from my world. They're here to help."
Reiji adjusted his glasses. "Then you're welcome here. We'll need all the strength we can get."
Kazumi gave a small smirk. "There's more of us on the way. Including our leader."
Reiji's brow lifted. "And how do your skills compare to the duelists of this world?"
Kazumi chuckled. "We can beat almost anyone here. No offense."
Serena scoffed, folding her arms. "Big talk."
Kazuma, still calm, added, "Don't underestimate him. His deck dismantles people mentally. I've been on the receiving end more times than I care to admit."
Reiji cleared his throat, hiding his amusement. "In any case, Barret and Serena—you'll be staying at one of LDS's apartments. It's safer than whatever camp you had in mind."
Barret bowed lightly. "Thank you. I appreciate the gesture."
Reiji turned to the brothers. "The same offer extends to you."
Kazuma and Kazumi nodded, grateful. "We'll take it."
Finally, Reiji's gaze returned to Ryuki. "Head to the arena. Sakaki Yuya's match is about to begin."
Ryuki waved it off. "There's no point. I already know he'll win."
Reiji smirked faintly. "You're too confident."
"Call it faith," Ryuki said. Then he nodded. "After Yuya's duel, I'll gather Ruri and Rin and meet you in your office. We'll show them everything."
Reiji agreed, turning to lead Barret and Serena away for a private conversation. As they left, Ryuki remained with Kazuma and Kazumi. A grin played on his lips. "It's been a while, huh? We've got a lot to catch up on."
The brothers nodded, their spirits high despite the tension that lingered. Together, they walked off, ready to face the challenges ahead.
-----
Hours had passed since Kazuma and Kazumi's arrival. The second day of the second round of the Maiami Championship had drawn to a close, and as the city settled into the night's calm, a storm brewed behind closed doors. Ryuki, Kazuma, and Kazumi lingered together, sharing stories, thoughts, and quiet moments of relief that came with old friendships rekindled.
It was during this rare moment of peace that Ryuki's device pinged. A message. A video.
Ruri.
She had sent him a recording of Yuya's match against Kachidoki Isao. Ryuki leaned against the railing of a terrace, Kazuma and Kazumi flanking him, and played the video. What he saw made his stomach knot.
Yuya had tried—truly tried—to minimize his use of Action Cards, to stand on his own strength. But Kachidoki... that brute had sought nothing but a savage, crushing victory. His blows were relentless, and Ryuki could see it in Yuya's eyes—the effort, the struggle, as his Life Points plummeted to a mere 100.
Then came the turning point. Yuya cleared his field, Pendulum Summoned two Level 7 monsters, and from their union emerged a dragon unlike any they had seen.
Dark Anthelion Dragon.
It bore a striking resemblance to Yuto's Dark Rebellion—but it was different. Sleeker. Untouched by the chaotic malice that once haunted its counterpart. Ryuki's gaze narrowed. Yuya was emotionally stable. No Zarc. No madness. A realization dawned—Rin's duel with Yugo... her Holy Dragon, Luminous Dragon... it helped stabilize him. That calming presence had tempered Zarc's darkness, even within Yuya.
Dark Anthelion roared. Yuya fought back, hard and clean. And with that dragon's might, he overcame Kachidoki, securing his place in the next round.
Ryuki smiled faintly. Well done, Yuya.
The trio soon arrived at LDS, stepping into Reiji's office. The atmosphere was heavy, the tension palpable.
There, seated across from Reiji's massive desk, were Serena and Barret. Both looked as if the world had crumbled beneath them. Their gazes were low, eyes hollow with the weight of revelation.
Ryuki immediately understood. "You told them everything, didn't you?" His voice was gentle, but firm.
Reiji simply nodded. "They've seen the truth. The Arc Area Project. Revival Zero. All of it."
Kazuma and Kazumi shared a glance. They knew that look—defeat, despair, betrayal. It reminded Kazuma of when he was possessed by Gyze, when his will was nothing but a tool for destruction. And Kazumi thought of Shiranui—how his own bond had brought doom to his world, letting Gyze invade through that cursed link. They felt nothing but sympathy for Serena and Barret. Pawns. Just as they had once been.
Serena's hands trembled before she slammed them on the table, her voice breaking as truth shattered her faith. "So that's it... I was nothing more than a replacement! A puppet that just looked like the Professor's dead daughter!" Her eyes burned with betrayed fury. "And he was willing to kill me just to bring her back!"
Barret clenched his fists so tight his nails bit into his palms. His voice was low, haunted. "I thought... I thought we were bringing honor to the Fusion Dimension. I thought invading the Xyz Dimension was righteous... but all this time... we were tools for genocide." His head hung low. "How many lives... how many sins... have I added to my name?"
The room was silent save for their grief. Then Reiji turned to Ryuki. "Where are Ruri and Rin?"
"They're seeing Yuya and the others off. They'll be here soon," Ryuki replied quietly.
Almost as if summoned by those words, the office doors burst open. Yuto and Shun strode in, their eyes sharp, their bodies tense. Their gazes locked on Barret—and recognition ignited their fury.
"Academia scum!" Shun spat, launching forward, Yuto not far behind.
But before they could reach him, Kazuma moved. He drew Luard's card. Kazumi mirrored him, summoning Shiranui "Oboro."
Two figures burst forth—a tall elf draped in black magician's garb, his left arm replaced by a dragon's claw. Beside him, a spectral dragon with a skeletal face, a third eye burning on its forehead, and rings of spectral energy orbiting its form.
Everyone except Ryuki froze. Reiji's eyes widened. Serena and Barret stared in shock. Even Shun and Yuto faltered mid-charge.
Ryuki's voice rang clear. "Enough! Stand down!"
Shun growled. "Stand down?! There's an Academia agent right in front of us, Ryuki!"
Reiji raised his hand. "Look closer. Look at Serena."
Their rage was tempered by confusion. Slowly, cautiously, they obeyed. And when their eyes met Serena's face, their anger ebbed into astonishment.
"She... she looks like..." Yuto's voice cracked.
"Ruri?" Shun breathed.
Serena opened her mouth to speak, but before she could, Barret stepped forward. His expression was somber, resolved. He reached into his coat and withdrew a small stack of cards. Without a word, he extended them toward Shun and Yuto.
The boys hesitated, then took them. As their eyes fell upon the faces captured in those cards, their breath hitched. Resistance fighters. Friends. Comrades.
"I kept them," Barret said, voice steady but heavy with remorse. "The ones who could truly wound me in battle. I kept their cards... out of respect for their strength. Their spirit."
Reiji spoke gently, "LDS is already working to free those trapped within the cards. Thanks to the cards Ruri recovered from Sora, the process is progressing well. We should have everyone restored by the end of the month."
For a moment, all was still. Then Yuto and Shun let out slow, shuddering breaths. The monsters Kazuma and Kazumi summoned faded back into their cards.
Yuto turned to Reiji, confused but calmer. "Why are two Academia agents here?"
"They came seeking answers," Reiji said. "And they've received them."
Shun's eyes narrowed. "They know everything?"
Barret spoke, his voice gaining strength. "I do. And what Akaba Leo is doing is a disgrace to Academia's true values. I won't serve that man anymore." He drew his deck, staring at it one final time—then cast it aside. The cards scattered across the floor.
Everyone froze.
"Barret?!" Serena gasped.
He met her gaze, calm and resolute. "That deck... it represents everything I no longer believe in. I won't tarnish the little honor I have left by using it. I'll find a new path. A new deck worthy of fighting for what's right."
Ryuki, watching intently, smirked inwardly. I know just the deck for him. Through telepathy, he sent word to Dran and Tigar to retrieve it.
Yuto and Shun turned their attention to the unfamiliar faces in the room. "And them?"
Ryuki stepped forward. "Onimaru Kazumi and Shoji Kazuma. My friends. From my world. They're here to help us."
The door opened once more. Ruri and Rin entered.
Serena's breath caught in her throat. There they were—two girls who bore her exact face. She stood frozen, unable to speak.
Ruri approached first, her tone warm, kind. "I'm Ruri. You'll get used to seeing two more faces that look like yours."
Rin grinned, wrapping an arm around Serena's shoulders. "Yeah. Think of us as sisters you never knew you had."
Serena didn't know what to say. But slowly, a faint smile appeared—a fragile but genuine expression of hope.
Barret watched quietly, a smile tugging at his lips as he saw Serena, at last, surrounded by people her own age. Ryuki leaned in, whispering to him. "She wasn't allowed to talk to others, was she?"
Barret nodded silently, his eye misting over. For the first time in his life, he felt as though Serena had a chance to truly live.
The air inside Reiji's office remained heavy after the revelations about Academia and its atrocities. Yet, as the shock began to settle, light cracks of hope formed. Ruri and Rin sat beside Serena, the initial awkwardness between them melting as they shared quiet words, easing the tension of the storm that had raged within Serena's heart.
It was Rin who finally broke the comfortable silence. "By the way, Ryuki—why did you call us here?" She tilted her head curiously, though she already had an inkling something bigger was unfolding.
Ryuki smiled, casting a glance toward the brothers beside him. "There's someone I want you to meet. Two of them, actually. These are my comrades from back home." His voice carried a subtle pride as he gestured to the pair.
Ruri's eyes brightened with interest. "So both of them are from your world?"
Ryuki nodded. "Yes. And there are more—five more, to be exact, who'll be joining us."
As if summoned by his words, the room was bathed in a sudden glow. A white Vanguard Circle materialized at the center of the chamber, its power hum resonating across the polished floor. The circle pulsed gently, a gateway between dimensions now open before them.
Shun, Yuto, and Barret immediately braced themselves, instincts honed by hardship making them ready to strike at whatever might emerge. But Ryuki raised a hand, calm and commanding. "Wait. Let's see who steps through."
From the radiance of the circle, five figures emerged one by one. First, a young man with reddish wood-colored hair, donning a blue cat-eared hoodie and dark brown pants, his eyes sharp yet kind. Then a handsome blond man, silver-eyed, dressed in a red coat over a gray shirt, his stance relaxed but confident. The third figure strode forth with reddish-orange hair and gentle green eyes, his attire refined—a lavender long coat over a crisp white shirt. Next came a blue-haired youth with clear blue eyes, wearing a white shirt beneath a sleeveless purple jacket. Finally, a petite girl with short dark peach hair and bright blue eyes stepped forward, dressed in a dark blue blouse and white skirt.
Ryuki's jaw dropped in sheer disbelief as he saw the people who showed up. Before he could speak, the girl rushed at him, her arms wrapping tightly around his waist, burying her face against him without hesitation. Gasps rippled across the room—Ruri and Rin tensed, eyes wide, an unexpected sting of jealousy flickering in their hearts. Serena just tilted her head as she was watching the scene unfold.
Ryuki looked down, recognition lighting his features. "Emi...?"
Emi looked up, her smile warm and pure. "Surprised to see me didn't you, Ryuki-kun?"
Ryuki blinked, utterly stunned. His gaze flicked to Aichi, who had just stepped through. Aichi smiled gently and shook his head, his eyes saying it all—Emi chose this herself.
Emi released him at last. "So? How's Standard treating you?"
Ryuki chuckled, still a bit dazed. "I... I'm doing well. I'm teaching now, if you can believe it."
Christopher whistled playfully. "A teacher, huh? I always knew you had it in you." He grinned and stepped forward. "Apologies, I am Christopher Lo—you can call me Chris for short. I represent the nation of Zoo and the Great Nature Clan."
Kenji was next, offering a sheepish grin as he scratched his head. "Mitsusada Kenji. I represent the nation of Star Gate and Dimension Police's Vanguard. Good to meet all of you."
Kazumi stepped forward with quiet confidence. "Onimaru Kazumi. Dragon Empire's representative. Ryuki would have had the role, but as one of Cray's chosen, I stepped in."
Kazuma followed suit. "Shoji Kazuma. United Sanctuary's representative. And don't let appearances fool you—I earned it, though I'm still new."
Rin raised a brow, intrigued by the revelation.
The blue-haired boy offered a polite nod. "Enishi Satoru. Dark Zone's branch chief and representative. Hopefully we can get along."
Finally, Emi beamed. "I'm Sendou Emi. And I'm representing the nation of Magallanica." Her introduction made Ruri arch a brow curiously.
Aichi finished, his voice steady. "And I am Sendou Aichi. One of Cray's representatives. And a friend."
Reiji folded his arms, studying the newcomers. "Ryuki. Are they the real deal?"
Ryuki's eyes glinted. "Aside from Kazuma and Emi, these are the best my world could offer. With Kenji being the Rank 3 fighter in my world and Chris being the Singapore Champion as well. Though, the two are making names for themselves too."
Serena and Barret stepped forward next. "I am Mikazuki Serena. Formerly of Academia," Serena stated firmly. "I came here to prove myself by defeating Ryuki at first, but... after learning the truth, I've chosen to fight against Academia. To restore its honor."
Barret's voice rumbled with conviction. "And I, Barret Gomez, will see Academia freed from Akaba Leo's tyranny. If it's the last thing I do."
Chris clapped his hands lightly, trying to break the tension. "Enough heavy talk. There's something you all need to see." With a flick of his wrist, he activated a projection. A barren valley filled the air above them—a place Ryuki recognized as a once-mysterious region of Star Gate. Now? A warzone. Craters marred the land, smoke rose from scattered wreckage, twisted metal lay strewn like corpses.
Reiji narrowed his eyes. "What are we looking at?"
Chris zoomed in, and Barret paled. "Those... those are pieces of Academia's Antique Gear Chaos Giant..."
Yuto and Shun's faces hardened.
Ryuki's mind raced. Academia's invading Cray?!
Aichi stepped forward, his tone grave. "If Academia conquers Cray... our reality may not survive. We came because this threat endangers everything. Luckily, Messiah has told us that their attempts in making a full scale invasion are unsuccessful."
Kenji nodded. "Harmonics Messiah herself sent us here to aid Ryuki in stopping Akaba Leo."
Serena and Barret clenched their fists. Yuto and Shun tensed as they wanted to rush to Academia right now, but Barret raised his hand. "No. Rushing Academia now is suicide. We must first liberate the Xyz Dimension. Gain Synchro's support. Only then can we strike Academia's heart."
Rin sighed, worry shadowing her face. "The Synchro Dimension won't be easy. Sector Security rules with an iron grip. And the man at its helm? He goes by the name of Jean Michel Roget. Since his arrival, our lives have been a living hell."
Barret stiffened. "Roget... He's Academia's most wanted. A traitor who mind-controlled hundreds and sparked a coup. A disgrace. And from what you say, I can tell that he's planning to rule the Synchro Dimension all to himself."
The room fell silent at the weight of those words. Reiji adjusted his glasses, deep in thought. A new strategy will be needed.
Rin's mind drifted to Yugo. Reckless fool. You're putting yourself in danger...
Suddenly, light shimmered. Chrono Dran and Chrono Tigar appeared, each holding a deck box. Kazuma, Kazumi, Aichi, and Emi stared in amazement.
Ryuki took the box. "Thank you, Dran. Tigar." The Zodiacs nodded, vanishing as quickly as they'd come.
Aichi blinked. "Ryuki-kun... Gear Chronicle? How did you get Chrono-kun's deck?"
Ryuki smiled faintly. "Chrono entrusted Dran to help me. And I made a bond with Tigar. I'm the third confirmed Gear Chronicle user now."
Ruri leaned in. "What did they bring?"
Ryuki turned to Barret. His tone was sincere. "Barret. Your resolve is admirable. You cast aside your old deck with honor and swore to do better. That's why, I give you this, as a second chance for you." He handed over the red box.
Barret opened it slowly, revealing the top card.
Emperor Dragon, Gaia Emperor
Level 8 / EARTH / Dinodragon / Fusion / Effect / Engorge
ATK: 3000 / DEF: 2000
Barret's eyes widened. "What... what is this deck?"
Ryuki's smile deepened. "Tachikaze. A clan that thrives on brutal offense, sacrificing its own to gain overwhelming power. Dinosaurs that embody survival. Eat or be eaten. It suits your discipline, your strength."
Barret stared at the cards, the weight of his vow settling. "I'll honor this gift. And this deck... on the path of redemption."
-----
In the grand throne room of Academia, the air was heavy with the scent of cold steel and ambition. Sora stood on one knee before Akaba Leo, his breath steady despite the weight of the man's gaze. The throne loomed above, a symbol of the authority that had shaped his path, for better or worse.
Leo's eyes narrowed as they fixed on the boy. "Sora. Are you certain you're fit for this mission? I will not tolerate failure."
Sora clenched his fist and raised his head, determination burning in his eyes. "I'm ready, Professor. The medical team gave me the green light. I request permission to return to the Standard Dimension. I swear I'll defeat any Xyz remnants hiding there."
Leo studied him for a long, silent moment, then finally nodded. "Very well. Your request is granted."
Relief and purpose washed over Sora. This was his chance for redemption. But before he could voice his thanks, Leo raised a hand.
"You will not be going alone."
The sound of synchronized footsteps echoed through the throne room as fifty duelists emerged from the shadows, clad in blue militaristic suits. Their helmets bore a strange, angular design, obscuring their identities and adding to their ominous aura.
Leo's voice rang out. "The Obelisk Force will accompany you. They are yours to command for this operation."
Sora's heart skipped a beat. The Obelisk Force—Academia's iron fist. His mission had just taken on greater weight. But Leo wasn't done.
"Additionally... someone else will oversee this mission." Leo gestured, and a figure stepped forward.
A boy with long gray hair that fell haphazardly around his dull green eyes. His dark military suit was worn sloppily, as if he'd thrown it on without care. His expression spoke of boredom, as though the world itself failed to interest him.
Leo introduced him with measured words. "Gerard Walker. One of my elite duelists. He will command this operation."
Sora blinked in surprise. Gerard hardly looked the part of an elite, yet the way Leo regarded him suggested otherwise. "Who is this guy...?"
Before Sora could ask further, a projection flickered to life beside Leo, displaying an image of Serena. For a brief moment, Sora's breath caught. "Yuzu?"
"No," Leo corrected, his voice cold. "That is Serena. Your true objective. Bring her back to Academia—by any means necessary. You are authorized to engage the locals if they interfere."
Sora clenched his jaw and nodded. "Understood."
"Good. Prepare yourself. I must speak with Gerard."
Sora and the Obelisk Force bowed in unison and left, their boots echoing like a drum of impending war.
When the chamber fell silent again, Leo's gaze shifted to Gerard, his tone dropping to a more private register. "Gerard, your mission is separate. You will have Sora and Yuri as cover, but your true target is..." He changed the projection, revealing images of Ryuki and Yuya. "Them. Eliminate both—by any means."
Gerard's brow rose slightly, the first spark of interest flickering in his dull gaze. "Why? They're just duelists, aren't they?"
Leo's eyes darkened. "They are threats to my plans. That one—" he pointed to Ryuki's image, voice hardening, "—defeated Yuri. If they live, my vision of unifying the dimensions will never come to pass."
For the first time, Gerard's lips curled into a smirk. "Now you have my attention. Consider it done."
As Gerard departed, Leo exhaled slowly, allowing himself a rare moment of vulnerability. From his pocket, he withdrew a small pendant and opened it, revealing a picture of Ray. His voice dropped to a whisper, filled with longing. "It's only a matter of time. Soon the dimensions will be one... and we'll be together again, my daughter..."
Yet fate, cruel and unseen, had other plans. A reunion born of genocide could never bring the peace he so desperately sought.
Across the vast gulf of space, far from the scheming halls of Academia, the world of Cray stirred in response.
In the heart of the United Sanctuary, within the towering White Monastery, the great King of Knights, Alfred, rose from his throne. The grand hall was filled with his loyal knights, their armor gleaming, their faces set in grim resolve.
Reports of a potential invasion had reached his ears—Academia's shadow stretching even to their world.
Alfred's voice boomed like thunder. "Prepare for battle! Our Vanguard has taken up his sword once more. We shall stand with him!"
A roar of approval filled the hall as the knights drew their blades and pounded fists to their chests, pledging themselves to the coming fight.
The doors burst open and Stardust Trumpeter, the fleetest messenger of the Royal Paladins, entered. "Your Majesty! Reports from across Cray! The clans of Great Nature of Zoo, Nubatama of the Dragon Empire, Bermuda Triangle of Magallanica, Dark Irregulars of the Dark Zone, Dimension Police of Star Gate, and the Shadow Paladins as well as the Gold Paladins—they all answer the call!"
Alfred's eyes shone with pride. "Then we ride as one. Let the invaders learn the strength of Cray's unity."
Meanwhile, deep within the ancient forests of Zoo, the Zeroth Dragon of Death Garden, Zoa, stirred from her meditations. The ancient being could sense it—the approach of disaster, a disturbance that threatened the balance of all.
Though bound eternally to Cray, Zoa's heart ached to join the defense of the world she called home. As her vines rustled softly, a familiar presence appeared—Harmonics Messiah, radiant with cosmic light.
"You wish to aid us, Zoa?" Harmonics asked gently.
Zoa's voice was soft but heavy with resolve. "I do. But as you know, I am bound. I cannot leave this soil. Yet... if there is a way, I will give what I can."
Harmonics nodded. "There is. You can enter hibernation. Your power will be sealed into a card—a gift for Cray's Vanguard."
Zoa considered the offer only briefly. "If that is what must be done... so be it."
As she lowered her great head, her vines folding protectively around her form, Harmonics raised a hand. Zoa's immense power crystallized, forming into a card glowing with green and black energies. The Zeroth Dragon's eyes closed as sleep claimed her, the forest falling silent, mourning the temporary loss of its guardian.
Harmonics wove a barrier around Zoa's resting place. "Rest well, Zoa. Your strength will help turn the tide. I will see this reaches Zoo's champion."
And with that promise, the light of Harmonics faded into the mists, leaving the grove in solemn peace.
