Chapter 6 - Chapter 6.1: Different Dimension Demon vs Gear Chronicle Part 1

In the tranquil green heart of Planet Cray, deep within the ancient, overgrown forest of Zoo, the guardian of life and nature stirred beneath the canopy of towering trees. Zoa, the Zeroth Dragon of Death Garden and sovereign protector of Zoo, lay silently coiled among vines and roots. Her wings, like the wings of a butterfly forged from jade and silver light, shimmered under shafts of sunlight that pierced the leaves. The earth pulsed gently beneath her, a heartbeat that echoed her presence across the entire continent.

Suddenly, the serene air rippled, and time itself seemed to pause.

From the void between dimensions, a radiant figure appeared—a silhouette of pure harmonic light. It was Harmonics Messiah, the harbinger of balance and unity, the one who guided the path of the Zeroth Dragons who had once wrought ruin across dimensions.

Zoa opened her brilliant emerald eyes as Harmonics descended gently before her, landing upon the moss with barely a whisper of sound.

"You have come, Messiah," Zoa said, her voice a melodic rumble, ancient and soothing.

"I have," Harmonics replied, her voice like a chorus of countless stars. "To offer you the same path of redemption I gave to Megiddo, Ultima, and Drachma. Will you join them, Zoa? Will you walk the path to salvation, and stand once more not as a destroyer—but as a guardian of worlds?"

There was a long pause. Birds called from the trees, and petals drifted lazily through the air.

Zoa finally lowered her gaze. "No, Messiah. I must decline."

The light dimmed slightly around Harmonics as she asked, "Why?"

Zoa gently spread her wings, their translucent patterns glowing with life energy. "Because I am needed here. My presence alone protects Zoo from diseases, desolation, and decay. I do not just serve Zoo—I sustain it. The Great Nature, Neo Nectar, and even the shadows of Mega Colony rely on my pulse to maintain balance. If I leave, the continent would weaken. And I will not let another war ruin this land."

Harmonics was silent. Then, slowly, she nodded.

"You sound much like Stark," she said at last.

Zoa tilted her head. "Star Gate's Zeroth Dragon?"

"Yes. I extended the same offer to him. But Stark, too, refused. He remained behind, not to sustain—but to guard. He now works with the Dimension Police and Link Joker to repel outside invaders, as they once did before Cray was torn asunder."

Zoa lowered her head respectfully. "Then he has found his purpose."

Harmonics folded her hands. "And so have you."

The Zeroth Dragon looked up toward the sky, where filtered sunlight danced through the canopy. "What of Dust?" she asked quietly.

A shadow passed across Harmonics' face.

"Dust... is lost," she said somberly. "Its mind remains fractured, consumed by endless rage. The leaders of Dark Zone have sealed it away beneath the Tower of the Nightless Abyss. That seal will only break if every other Zeroth Dragon falls. That is how dangerous Dust has become."

Zoa closed her eyes. "I'm sorry I cannot offer more than words."

"You have done more than enough by choosing to live," Harmonics said, voice full of grace. "And to protect what remains."

With that, Harmonics Messiah slowly faded, her radiance drawn upward like rising morning mist. Zoa remained in silence, allowing the gentle breeze to rustle through the forest, listening to the soft whispers of leaves, the pulse of life.

She exhaled deeply, laying her head down once more.

"I will protect this land... until the end."

Back in the human world—within the modest but comfortable apartment tucked into the edge of Maiami City—Ryuki quietly opened the door, flanked by his two companions, Ruri and Rin. The three were worn from their battles, both emotional and physical. Yet there was peace in their steps now. A sense of resolution. And perhaps... the beginnings of something new.

As they stepped inside, they were immediately met by a small chorus of joyful squeaks.

"Welcome back!" chimed a dozen tiny voices.

Ruri blinked. Rin tilted her head.

Floating in front of them were twelve adorably chibi-fied creatures—each one unique in color and design, but clearly brimming with immense power. At the center of them all was Chrono Dran, proudly floating with arms crossed and a smug grin.

"You're late," Dran teased.

Ryuki squinted. "How... how did you even beat us here?"

"I zipped over once your duel ended," Dran said proudly. "I wanted to prepare the welcome party."

Ryuki's eyes widened as he turned to see the other Zodiac Time Beasts waving cheerfully. "Wait, what?! How are all of you even here?!"

Chronoethos Jackal answered, his ears twitching as he hovered in midair. "When you summoned your Zeroth Dragon, the spiritual boundary between Cray and this world strengthened. That energy gave us enough power to cross into your dimension temporarily."

"Temporarily?" Ruri asked, already hugging Chronobeat Buffalo like a pillow.

"We can only stay in our current form for short bursts," Chronospin Serpent hissed gently. "But we wanted to see you all in person."

"And to congratulate you!" Chronocharge Unicorn neighed.

Rin, in the meantime, had seized hold of Chrontimer Leghorn and was currently rubbing her cheek against the flustered Zodiac's face. "You're soooo cute~!"

Chrono Dran, meanwhile, turned smugly toward Ryuki. "I may have let slip about your relationship development..."

Ryuki palmed his face. "Dran..."

"I had to! They wanted to celebrate with you!"

Ryuki let out an exasperated sigh, but the corners of his lips twitched upward in amusement. "Fine. But no causing chaos, alright?"

All the Zodiacs chirped and gave a collective salute—well, most of them. Chrono Dran, as usual, just gave a silent nod, floating aloof above the rest.

One by one, the Zodiacs returned to their card forms in flashes of warm light, until only Chrono Dran and Chrono Tigar remained.

Ryuki turned toward the striped, chibi-fied tiger, who stood a little apart from the rest.

"You're not returning to your card?" Ryuki asked curiously.

Chrono Tigar hesitated. "No... I want to stay for a bit. I... I want to form a connection."

Ryuki, Ruri, and Rin looked surprised.

Dran floated closer. "Tigar? You never said anything about this before."

The little tiger lowered his gaze. "Back on Cray... I was in chains. Not because I was guilty—but because someone else said I was. I was treated like a villain for something I never did. Then Ryuzu used me as a puppet, twisted my powers for his schemes. I thought joining Chrono's team would make the pain go away... but something was always missing."

He looked up—eyes wide, honest, and vulnerable.

"When I saw Ryuki... I thought maybe he could understand. Maybe... I could be accepted."

There was a long silence.

Then Ryuki slowly knelt down, meeting the tiger's eyes with gentle calm.

"I don't know what kind of pain you've been through," Ryuki said softly. "But if you're looking for someone who won't treat you like a tool, someone who will accept you for who you are... then I'll be that person."

Tigar's eyes welled up. "Y-You mean it?"

Ryuki smiled. "I accept everything about you, Tigar."

With a broken, joyful cry, the little Zodiac leapt into Ryuki's arms and clung tightly to him. For a moment, time stilled—an unspoken bond being forged in the space between words.

Ruri and Rin exchanged looks, then smiled warmly as they approached, each placing a gentle hand on Ryuki's back.

"You sure do attract strays," Rin teased, wiping her eye.

Ruri giggled. "But it's because he's kind. We're here because of that same kindness."

Chrono Dran wiped a fake tear. "Our Ryuki is growing up..."

Ryuki rolled his eyes, but the warmth in his chest was undeniable.

------

The first golden rays of dawn pierced through the sheer curtains of Ryuki's apartment, casting a soft glow across the room. The early morning breeze swayed the trees outside, their branches rustling with gentle rhythm. Birds had just begun their song, ushering in a new day.

Ryuki stirred beneath the covers, eyelids fluttering open slowly. His senses adjusted to the light, and the first thing he saw was a small, furred figure curled up beside him.

"Chrono Tigar...?"

The chibi-fied Zodiac Time Beast was nestled right beside him, peacefully asleep, his striped tail swaying ever so slightly as he breathed. Ryuki couldn't help but smile at the sight. After all the hardships Tigar had endured, the little tiger had finally found peace—at least for now.

"He really just wanted someone to trust..." Ryuki murmured to himself, brushing a few fingers lightly over Tigar's head. "Don't worry. I'll treat you as more than a partner... as a true friend."

He meant it.

But before he could revel further in the moment, he felt something heavy pinning him down. His brows furrowed. His limbs refused to budge.

"Huh?"

Turning his head ever so slightly, he glanced to his left—and froze.

Rin was sleeping beside him.

Correction: clinging to him like an oversized koala.

Her arms were wrapped tightly around his torso, and her legs tangled with his under the sheets. Her face was buried against his shoulder, and—unfortunately for his composure—her breasts were pressing firmly against his side.

"Wh-Why...?" Ryuki stammered, his cheeks tinting red. "What is she doing in my bed?!"

Before he could formulate an escape plan, Rin stirred.

Her eyelids fluttered open, revealing bright, sleepy eyes. She gave him a warm, drowsy smile.

"Morning, Ryuki~," she said sweetly, tightening her hug.

"Rin," Ryuki said, struggling to keep his tone calm despite the warmth on his skin and the confusion in his brain. "Why... are you in my bed?"

Rin tilted her head, eyes still half-lidded. "Because we're a couple now? Duh~. Isn't it normal for lovers to wake up beside each other?"

Ryuki blinked rapidly. "I-I mean, yes, we're open about our feelings now, but there's a time and place—"

"And what better time than now?" she interrupted, leaning in closer. "Let's start the day with something sweet... how about a morning kiss?"

Her lips inched closer. Ryuki's eyes widened.

But just before contact—

CRACK.

The atmosphere dropped. A dark, ominous aura surged into the room, not of evil... but of jealousy.

Standing at the doorway was Ruri, already fully dressed in her school uniform, looking immaculate and poised. Except for one glaring detail:

She held a giant, cartoonishly large toy hammer, and her expression was far from calm.

Her eye twitched. Shadows fell over her face. Even the birds outside stopped chirping.

Rin, sensing the sudden chill in the air, slowly turned her head.

"...Oh no."

Ruri's footsteps were slow and deliberate as she entered the room, her presence thunderous despite the silence. Rin scrambled off Ryuki, holding up her hands like a guilty child.

"R-Ruri, wait! I-It's not what it looks like! We were just—!"

BONK.

The hammer came down with comedic force, smacking Rin squarely on the head and sending her tumbling off the bed with a loud thud.

Ryuki sighed.

Chrono Tigar opened one eye, blinking blearily at the chaos. "Is... this normal?"

Ryuki, still trapped under the covers, nodded grimly. "It's the new norm..."

What followed was several minutes of Ruri furiously bonking Rin over the head like a disciplinary older sister, while Rin yelped and darted around the room trying to dodge. Chrono Dran watched from a safe corner with popcorn in paw.

Eventually, things calmed down.

The trio sat at the small dining table, steaming plates of toast, eggs, and rice set before them. Ruri sipped calmly from her tea as though nothing had happened. Rin sported a small bump on her head but otherwise acted unfazed, humming as she munched on her breakfast.

Ryuki, meanwhile, sat in front of the television, eyes locked on the morning news.

A holographic broadcast displayed sweeping aerial views of Maiami City. Although the buildings were intact, many bore visible scars—cracked windows, shattered roads, and deep craters marring the landscape.

The headline scrolled across the bottom:

"Half of Maiami's districts report structural damage. Reconstruction efforts begin today. All Duel Schools invited to assist in the restoration campaign."

Ryuki's gaze lowered. He clenched his fork lightly.

"I... caused this," he murmured.

Ruri looked up from her tea, her expression softening. "Ryuki..."

He didn't look away from the screen. "I summoned Drachma during my duel with Yuto. I should've realized that bringing out a Zeroth Dragon... even partially... would have consequences."

Rin put her utensils down and leaned forward. "Ryuki, you didn't summon Drachma to hurt anyone. You did it to protect people. And to save Yuto."

Ruri nodded in agreement. "Besides, none of us knew how much impact a Zeroth Dragon could cause in the real world. We're still learning. You shouldn't shoulder this alone."

Ryuki exhaled, tension easing slightly from his shoulders.

Just then, his Duel Disk pinged with a message. He tapped it, revealing a note from Shuzo.

"You Show Duel School has been invited to participate in the reconstruction effort. Everyone will be helping out around the city. Report in when you're ready."

Ryuki's eyes sharpened.

A thought bloomed in his mind—an opportunity.

"The reconstruction campaign..." he murmured. "This could be our chance."

Ruri raised an eyebrow. "Chance for what?"

"To approach Akaba Reiji," Ryuki said. "If we help with the rebuilding, I might be able to catch his attention. And if I do, I can finally give him the letter Yusho-san handed to us before we got here."

The girls exchanged glances.

"That's smart," Rin admitted.

"But dangerous," Ruri added. "Akaba Reiji isn't someone who lets just anyone near him."

"That's why I have to earn it."

There was a beat of silence.

Then Ruri asked quietly, "What about Yuto?"

Ryuki looked at her.

"I've moved on from him," Ruri said, her tone resolute. "But I still care. Is he... alright?"

Ryuki nodded. "He's fine. I made sure he wasn't injured and all. But..."

He paused.

"I used my PSYqualia to remove his memories of our duel and everything that has happened at that time."

Both girls' eyes widened.

"You can do that?" Rin asked, stunned.

Chrono Dran floated up beside them, ears twitching. "Memory alteration through PSYqualia is no joke. It can only be performed by those who've fully mastered it."

"Exactly," Tigar added. "As far as we know, only four people have done it: Ryuki, Sendou Aichi, Suzugamori Ren, and Soryuu Leon."

Rin blinked. "Who?"

"They're legends," Ryuki answered. "Aichi's heart is as strong as his deck. Ren has an eye for destiny, and Leon commands the wind itself. I've only faced them a handful of times... and they're the only ones I struggle to beat aside from Kai."

The girls were silent for a moment, awed.

Then Ryuki turned to Ruri.

"What will you do if you run into your brother?" he asked.

Ruri stared into her cup of tea. "If Yuto made it to Standard, then nii-san did too."

She looked up, her expression calm, eyes unwavering.

"I'll duel him."

Rin blinked. "That's it?"

Ruri nodded. "Words might not reach him... but our cards can. I don't know if it'll reach him, but I have to try"

Ryuki smiled faintly. Rin beamed with pride.

"You've really grown," Ryuki said warmly.

"I've had good teachers," Ruri replied with a wink.

The four of them—Ryuki, Ruri, Rin, Dran, and Tigar—shared a peaceful moment at the breakfast table, letting the morning sunlight wash over them.

------

After the three finished their breakfast, Ruri and Rin headed out for school. Before stepping out the door, they both leaned in and gave Ryuki a warm goodbye kiss, one on each cheek. Rin's was teasingly slow, while Ruri's was brief but tender.

"Be safe, both of you," Ryuki said, watching them disappear down the street.

Once the girls were out of sight, Ryuki exhaled softly, gathering his belongings and packing his bag for the day. Dran and Chrono Tigar floated beside him in spirit form, trailing him like silent sentinels as he left the apartment and made his way toward You Show Duel School.

As they strolled through the slowly awakening city, Ryuki mentally linked with his companions.

"Dran, Tigar. Any new reports from Cray?" he asked telepathically, his tone composed yet expectant.

Dran nodded within the mental link. "Yes. After the defeat of Gyze, all six nations of Cray have entered a cooperative era. Unity now defines the post-war world."

Chrono Tigar chimed in next. "The United Sanctuary has taken the lead in medical recovery, deploying the Angel Feather units to stabilize civilian health across the continent."

Dran continued, "The Dragon Empire is spearheading reconstruction efforts. The Tachikaze is managing demolition and debris clearing, while the Narukami directs structural rebuilding in damaged regions."

Ryuki listened quietly, absorbing the information.

"What about Magallanica?" he prompted.

"The Bermuda Triangle are organizing morale-boosting concerts and cultural programs," said Tigar. "Meanwhile, the Aqua Force and Granblue are coordinating sea trade and coastal defense operations."

"The Dark Zone has begun purging the remnants of Gyze's twisted army," Dran added grimly. "Scharhrot and the Dark Irregulars leads the campaign personally. He's using this chance to root out any of Gastille's lingering influence."

Ryuki gave a slow nod. That would be necessary. Gastille's corruption had run deep.

"What of Zoo?"

"Zoa chose to remain," Tigar replied solemnly. "Despite being a Zeroth Dragon, she has forsaken destruction and now safeguards Cray's life cycle. Great Nature is collaborating with the Angel Feather on advanced medical knowledge, and Neo Nectar is keeping a vigilant watch on Mega Colony's movements."

"Star Gate is stable," Dran said. "The Link Joker has turned its gaze outward, patrolling space to intercept potential invaders before they reach orbit with the Star-Vaders leading the operation, with Harmonics consent. The Nova Grappler and Dimension Police continue their efforts on the surface to protect and reassure the people."

Ryuki took it all in with a deep breath. So much change, and so much healing... Cray's people are working hard to reclaim their peace. Just like we are.

"Good work. Thank you both," he said with gratitude. "Keep me posted if anything changes."

Both spirits nodded in sync, pleased by their partner's faith in them.

Meanwhile, at Maiami City's private airport, a sleek, black limousine waited on a restricted runway as a silver jet landed smoothly on the tarmac. Standing on the asphalt were Akaba Reiji and his ever-loyal aide, Nakajima.

The plane door opened, and descending the stairway with elegance and purpose was a tall woman with violet hair tied into a sharp bun. Her crimson business suit was pristine, matching her black heels and sharp gaze. Despite her poised appearance, there was a commanding air to her presence.

She was Akaba Himika, Chairwoman of LEO Corporation—and Reiji's mother.

Reiji gave a small, respectful bow. "Welcome back, Mother."

The woman broke protocol and pulled her son into a warm embrace, much to Nakajima's quiet surprise.

"You've grown again, Reiji-san," she said with a soft smile. "It's good to be home."

Though the Akaba family was known for its stoicism, the bond between mother and son had only grown stronger in Leo's absence. Since Leo's disappearance to enact his vision for Ray's return, it had been Himika and Reiji supporting each other through the storms.

A/N: I know of their true selves as I watched the anime several times. But I kinda want to create something for them....something more....human....

As the three of them entered the limousine, the driver pulled away from the runway and began the journey toward LEO Duel School.

Himika reclined slightly in her seat and asked, "Reiji-san, care to explain what happened to the city while I was away? It looks like a typhoon passed through."

Nakajima adjusted his glasses. "Ma'am, two major events took place. First, a new summoning method has been developed."

"New?" Himika raised an eyebrow. "As in completely new?"

"Indeed," Reiji replied. "Pendulum Summoning. The footage you'll see will explain the rest."

Nakajima handed her a tablet, already cued up to a video of Sakaki Yuya's first public Pendulum Summon. Himika watched with growing astonishment as Yuya summoned three monsters simultaneously using two cards in his monster zone as a scale.

"This... changes everything," she murmured. "No tribute, no level restrictions—just a simple setup and multiple summons."

Reiji elaborated. "It works by setting two Pendulum Monsters as scales. The Pendulum Scale defines the range of Levels that can be summoned from the hand or Extra Deck."

"Was Leo involved in this?" she asked cautiously.

Reiji shook his head. "No. Yuya developed it on his own. As of now, he is the only confirmed Pendulum user."

"Have you prepared prototype Pendulum Cards?"

"Yes. The technology is already in place, and the first batch of prototype cards is ready for testing."

A glint of pride crossed Himika's face. "Fast work, as always."

She tapped her chin. "Yuya... that name sounds familiar."

Reiji answered, "He's Yusho's son."

Himika's eyes sharpened at the name. "Yusho... Have we heard from him?"

Reiji's expression grew solemn. "No contact in the last four months. It's possible he's in trouble."

Himika sat back and sighed, remembering a promise made long ago. Back when Leo's ambitions threatened to unravel the dimensions, Yusho had made a pact with her: in exchange for supporting efforts to resist Leo's agenda, LEO Corporation would offer silent protection to You Show Duel School. That protection had remained in place ever since.

Though Shuzo believed someone was helping them behind the scenes, he never suspected that it was LDS.

Her gaze drifted toward the car window. Skyscrapers loomed, but many bore the scars of battle—fractured walls, shattered windows, and debris-lined streets.

"What happened here?" she asked, voice colder now.

Reiji opened his briefcase and passed a folder across the seat. "That brings us to the second issue. These three individuals arrived a few days ago: Himejima Ryuki, Kazehaya Rin, and Kurosaki Ruri."

Himika flipped through their profiles. "They're all teenagers. And you're impressed?"

Reiji offered no defense—just evidence.

Nakajima brought up videos on a screen built into the limousine wall. "You'll want to see this."

First, Ruri's duel played. Himika watched as the young woman Xyz Summoned Blue Storm Dragon, Maelstrom and then Xyz Summoned Supreme Ruler of the Storms, Thavas. Her technique, her presence—it was as if she had command over the battlefield.

Next was Rin, who showcased a masterful blend of Synchro tactics. Blue Sky Knight, Altmile, followed by Knight of Godly Defense, Igraine, and later the upgraded Aerial Divine Knight, Altmile. Her strategy flowed like a melody, overwhelming and unpredictable.

Finally, they played footage of Ryuki's duel against Yuto.

Himika's heart skipped a beat as she watched him summon the infernal might of Zeroth Dragon of Inferno, Drachma. The overwhelming pressure of the monster could even be felt through the recording. But what chilled her most was the condition of the summon—the wager of one's life.

"He... agreed to this willingly?" she asked in disbelief.

"Not just agreed—he embraced it," Reiji said quietly.

The limousine fell into silence for a moment. Then Himika pointed out something that made Reiji pause.

"These three—Rin used Synchro, Ruri used Xyz, and Ryuki used Fusion... but not in the traditional Standard sense. Their energy signatures aren't native. These aren't local Duelists."

Reiji nodded. "We're thinking the same thing. They're not from this dimension."

"Do you believe they're involved with Leo?"

"No. They've shown no signs of collaboration, and Ryuki seems to oppose Leo's philosophy. Still, I don't know what his endgame is."

Nakajima chimed in. "There will be a joint recovery operation between LDS and every Duel School in the city. A chance to rebuild Maiami... and potentially learn more about Ryuki."

Himika considered it carefully. "We can use this initiative to evaluate Ryuki's intentions firsthand. If we play it right, we can both rebuild the city and observe his actions."

Reiji sat back, silent for a moment. "An exhibition duel?"

His mother smiled. "Exactly. We have prototype Pendulum Cards ready. Pair them with someone skilled... perhaps even Yuya. The public sees hope, and you get data."

Reiji nodded, the plan already forming in his mind. "Then let's make it happen."

-----

Outside, the skyline of Maiami shimmered beneath the morning sun—scarred, but still standing. A city once shaken, now on the brink of something new.

Ryuki approached the modest building of You Show Duel School, flanked on either side by Dran and Tigar. Though inconspicuous on the outside, the school had recently become the epicenter of a quiet revolution. One that started with a smile, and now extended to a future built on bonds.

As the trio entered through the front doors, Ryuki glanced toward the open lounge and immediately caught sight of Hiiragi Shuzo chatting with Sakaki Yuya, who appeared to be sitting somewhat awkwardly on a bench. His right ankle was bandaged and resting atop a small cushion.

Shuzo spotted Ryuki instantly and waved enthusiastically. "Ah! Ryuki, welcome! I'm glad you made it. Did you get the message I sent?"

Ryuki gave a short nod, his crimson eyes briefly darting toward Yuya. "Yes, I read it. I came as soon as I could." He tilted his head slightly, then added, "But... why is Yuya here and not at school? Did something happen?"

Yuya rubbed the back of his head, offering an awkward chuckle. "Ahaha... well, I kinda... fell."

Ryuki blinked. "You fell?"

Shuzo stepped in to clarify. "Yuya's been given a short exemption from school. Apparently, his pets got rowdy this morning, and he slipped on the stairs."

The expression Ryuki wore could only be described as skeptical disbelief. "You... of all people... fell down the stairs?"

Yuya held up his hands defensively, his face turning slightly pink. "I know, I know. It sounds ridiculous. I'm the most acrobatic duelist around, right? But yeah, I completely lost balance. It's definitely up there as one of my most embarrassing moments."

Ryuki allowed himself a smirk before turning back to Shuzo. "Even so, should he really be participating in the collaboration today?"

Shuzo gave a reassuring nod. "He'll be fine in two days' time. But for now, he'll have to take it easy. I was thinking he could still join today's event—just in a less physically intense role."

Ryuki tapped a finger to his chin thoughtfully. "Then how about he works with Yuzu today? She can help by keeping an eye on him."

Shuzo's expression brightened. "Great idea. I'll let her know." With that, he excused himself, leaving the two boys alone in the lounge.

As silence settled between them, Ryuki gave Yuya a sidelong glance. "Let's talk. Classroom?"

Yuya nodded, grabbing his crutch and hobbling after him.

Once inside the familiar classroom—sunlight pouring through the windows and casting soft rays on the rows of desks—Ryuki pulled out a deck case and set it gently on the table. He paused a moment before speaking.

"Answer me this, Yuya. What would you do," Ryuki began, his voice calm yet deliberate, "if someone else other than you could use Pendulum Summoning?"

The question hung in the air like a sword suspended by a thread. Yuya blinked, clearly caught off guard. "Huh...?"

He fell into silence, contemplating the idea with a level of seriousness Ryuki hadn't expected. After several long moments, Yuya looked up.

"...Honestly? If there's someone else who can use Pendulum Summoning... then I'd be happy."

Ryuki arched an eyebrow.

Yuya smiled, though it carried a trace of something deeper. "If you asked the old me... I might've whined about it. Maybe even panicked. But not anymore." He placed a hand over his heart. "After reading my dad's letter... I understand now. Pendulum Summoning isn't just mine. It's a gift—and if others can use it, that just means it's fulfilling its purpose."

Ryuki folded his arms, leaning against the desk as Yuya continued.

"My goal now is to become the best Pendulum user I can be. Not the only one—the best."

A silent nod from Ryuki acknowledged that growth. Without another word, he opened the deck box and slid out a singular card, placing it on the desk between them.

Yuya's eyes widened as he leaned in.

"Chrono Dran G...?" he whispered, picking up the card with trembling fingers. "Wait—this is a Pendulum card...?"

"It is," Ryuki confirmed. "Part of the Gear Chronicle deck I received a few days ago. It's... not like anything I've used before."

Yuya looked from the card to Ryuki and back again. "But... why haven't you used it yet? Ruri and Rin said you're an amazing duelist."

"I don't know how," Ryuki admitted, blunt as ever. "I'm unfamiliar with Pendulum Summoning. I could study it, but I'd rather learn it from someone who pioneered it firsthand."

Yuya's mouth opened slightly in surprise. Then slowly, it turned into a genuine, touched smile. "You want me to teach you?"

"I do."

In that moment, Yuya felt something stir deep within. Responsibility. Legacy. The very same feeling his father must've felt when introducing the world to Action Duels.

If Pendulum Summoning really is expanding... who will everyone look up to?

The answer was obvious now. They'll look to the one who understands it best—the one willing to teach it right.

Yuya clenched a fist. "Alright, Ryuki. I'll teach you everything I know about Pendulum Summoning. And who knows—maybe we'll uncover new secrets together."

For the next several hours, the classroom became a forge for innovation. Yuya explained the mechanics of Pendulum Scales, the conditions for setting the zones, and the unique combo possibilities the mechanic enabled. Ryuki absorbed everything, asking sharp, tactical questions that even Yuya hadn't considered.

When it came time for Ryuki to try his first Pendulum Summon, he held two Zodiac Time Beasts in his hand. He looked to Yuya, who gave an encouraging nod.

"Now! Set your Pendulum Scales and call out the summon!"

Ryuki raised the cards to the Duel Disk's projection zone. "From my hand I use Scale 1 Chronobeat Buffalo and Scale 9 Chronotherapy Hamster. And set the Pendulum Scale!"

The disks lit up with radiant golden energy.

"O guardians of time and gears of fate— Align the axes of the past and future! Shatter the chains of causality and stride towards destiny!

Pendulum Summon! Manifest now from across time's horizon, my comrades!"

Two Gear Chronicle units materialized in flashes of gears and clockwork light, their forms warping space with temporal power.

Yuya clapped, grinning wide. "You got it!"

Ryuki let a small smirk cross his face. "And I already see at least three possible loops from those effects."

They worked on fusion strategies between Pendulum and Synchro or Fusion, and Yuya even dared to ask about Ryuki's Dragonic Overlord build, curious about how different summoning methods could enhance each other.

Across the hallway, Shuzo watched through the classroom window with a warm expression. He saw Yuya standing tall and confident, instructing with purpose. So this is what it looks like when a boy becomes a man, he thought with pride.

The sun had shifted significantly by the time the two left the classroom, the light dimming into noon.

As they stepped outside for some well-earned food, a familiar voice called out, "There you two are!"

Ruri and Rin approached hand-in-hand, followed by Yuzu, Ayu, Futoshi, Tatsuya, and—of course—Sora with his ever-present, mischievous smile.

Yuya blinked. "Wait, what are you all doing here?"

Yuzu smiled. "Didn't dad tell you? It's a half-day today because of the city's restoration efforts."

"Right. I forgot about that. Me and Yuya were busy with something." Ryuki admitted.

Ayu chimed in. "Are you making a new deck as well, Ryuki-sensei?"

"Yes. But I'll show you later."

Ryuki turned to Ruri and Rin. "How was school today?"

Rin crossed her arms. "Nothing special. Mostly lectures and reviews. Though I did make sure no one messed with Ruri. Just one look from me and they back off."

Ruri rolled her eyes. "She's exaggerating. But yeah—no issues. I'm fine, Ryuki."

Before he could respond, Shuzo called from the school's driveway. "Alright everyone! The van's here. Hop in!"

The group climbed aboard, laughter and chatter filling the air as they prepared to head for the event site where all Duel Schools would gather.

As the vehicle pulled away from You Show Duel School, Ryuki glanced out the window.

Pendulum Summoning... Gear Chronicle...

He closed his eyes.

"With learning Pendulum from Yuya, I can finally utilize what the Gear Chronicle can do."

Ryuki looked at Chrono Tigar's card and smiled.

"Don't worry buddy, I'll make sure your debut will be great."

The sun shined over Maiami City, as the van from You Show Duel School rolled to a gentle halt before the grand expanse of Maiami Central Plaza. As the doors slid open, Shuzo Hiiragi and Ryuki stepped out first, followed closely by their students. Already, the square was abuzz with life — duelists from all corners of the city had gathered in droves, each group bearing the colors and emblems of their respective schools.

Ryuki narrowed his eyes. Even before his feet hit the pavement, he could feel the weight of dozens of eyes turning toward them. Or rather, toward Yuya.

A murmur swept through the crowd, followed by more audible remarks.

"That's Yuya Sakaki..."

"Isn't he the son of that duelist who ran away?"

"He's still around after what his father did?"

Yuya flinched, the comments cutting deeper than any card could. But before his resolve could waver, Shuzo's steady hand rested on his shoulder.

"Remember what we're here for," Shuzo said firmly. "Don't mind the jeers. Your actions will speak louder than their doubts."

Ryuki nodded in agreement. "Focus on the mission. We rebuild the city, not our pride."

Yuya clenched his fists but gave a small nod. "Got it. I won't cause trouble."

The gathering was soon called to order by Nakajima, one of the city's reconstruction organizers. He stood atop a portable podium, megaphone in hand. His voice carried across the plaza, commanding attention.

"All Duel School students and teachers, thank you for coming! Your task today is to assist the construction teams in rebuilding parts of the city. Don't worry — you won't be doing the heavy lifting. That's for the professionals. You'll help with supply transport, organization, and inter-school cooperation. The goal isn't just rebuilding our city... it's building trust!"

With that, Nakajima began assigning groupings. You Show was paired with the Gongenzaka Dojo and — surprisingly — Leo Duel School.

Yuya raised an eyebrow. "LDS? Seriously?"

"It's fine," Ryuki said calmly. "Let's focus."

As their group assembled near a designated staging area, Ryuki took a step forward. "I'll be organizing our team today. Let's start with introductions I'm Himejima Ryuki, I work as a teacher at You Show Duel School."

A skeptical voice piped up. "You're a teacher?"

The girl who'd spoken had sharp black eyes and long dark brown hair tied in a sleek side-ponytail. "You look barely older than us."

Yuya interjected before things got heated. "He's legit. You won't find a more skilled duelist."

The girl scrutinized Ryuki for a moment longer before sighing. "Fine. I'll play along for now."

She stepped forward, arms crossed. "I'm Kotsu Masumi. From the LDS Fusion Course, top of my class."

"Shijima Hokuto," said a boy with a constellation-shaped hair accessory and a proud smirk. "Xyz Course. I see the stars clearer than anyone else."

"Todou Yaiba!" announced a wiry, intense boy with a wooden practice sword slung across his back. "Top student of the Synchro Course. But I follow no one."

"You do today," Masumi retorted.

Ryuki nodded. "Duly noted. Here's how we'll divide the tasks."

He opened a digital tablet and tapped a few boxes.

"Yuzu, Futoshi, Ayu, Tatsuya, and Yuya — kitchen duty. Help prepare food for the workers."

Hokuto raised an eyebrow. "Kitchen? Shouldn't we let the professionals—"

Yuya raised his crutch slightly. "I sprained my ankle earlier, so I won't be able to do the heavy work today."

Masumi didn't miss a beat, smacking Hokuto on the head. "Think before you speak."

"As for Masumi, Hokuto, Yaiba, and Sora," Ryuki continued, "your task is tool gathering. Avoid anything heavy — just check inventory and sort what's needed."

"What about the heavy equipment?" Yaiba asked, eager to prove himself.

"That's where the Gongenzaka Dojo comes in. You all have the muscle for it." Gongenzaka and the other students of the dojo bowed as they're prepared for their task.

"And you?" Masumi asked, arms folded.

"I'll oversee everything. Relay information, adjust as needed, and support where I can."

With assignments distributed, the groups fanned out. Ryuki kept a watchful eye, checking progress reports on his tablet, coordinating responses, and redirecting support where needed. Though he spoke few words, his presence kept the gears turning with methodical efficiency.

Elsewhere, high above the plaza, Himika and Reiji observed from a balcony. Reiji's fingers were steepled in thought.

"He's more than capable," Himika remarked. "He's coordinated three teams with minimal conflict. That's not an easy task, even for a professional."

Reiji's lips curled faintly. "I'm impressed. He didn't just lead... he adapted."

"You want him for the Lancers?"

"I'd be a fool not to."

As the hours rolled on and the sun dipped lower, the rebuilding effort neared its end. The once-shattered block was now reinforced with new infrastructure, gleaming metal frames, and fresh construction. Cheers erupted as workers and students stood back to admire their shared accomplishment.

Even Hokuto and Yaiba were laughing with Tatsuya and Futoshi. Yuzu and Masumi exchanged notes on Fusion theory, deep in discussion as Yuzu was interested in Fusion Summoning. Bonds had been forged, rivalries softened. The day had succeeded beyond expectations.

Then Nakajima's voice once again rang out across the plaza.

"Everyone! Please make your way to the Maiami Arena. To commemorate today's success, we've prepared a special exhibition match!"

Excitement surged through the students like an electric current. Who would be chosen? A celebrity? A high-ranking LDS student?

Ryuki's heart skipped.

His PSYqualia surged.

He knew.

It would be him.

Moments later, he was seated in the bleachers with the rest of You Show. Rin and Ruri sat beside him, sharing a glance.

"You felt it too?" Ruri whispered.

Ryuki gave a subtle nod.

Nakajima stood once more on the arena's center platform, microphone in hand. "Today, one duelist rose above expectations. One who led with initiative, humility, and effort. Himejima Ryuki — please step forward!"

A spotlight landed on him.

Gasps echoed through the arena.

"That guy?"

"He's just a teacher, right?"

"Wait... I saw him organizing the tool crew!"

Ryuki stood, calm as still water, and made his way to the field.

"And his opponent—!" Nakajima's voice boomed. "The President of LEO Corporation... Akaba Reiji!"

The arena exploded.

Cries of awe, disbelief, and anticipation thundered through the crowd.

Rin and Ruri were tense.

"This is either a curse or divine irony," Rin muttered.

Nearby, Hokuto scoffed. "Reiji'll flatten him in a few turns."

"You underestimate him," Ruri said coolly. "Ryuki's dueled against legends. World champions. He doesn't fall easy."

Masumi turned, curious. "Really?"

Meanwhile, on the arena floor, Reiji approached with measured steps.

"My apologies for the sudden match," he said. "I hope it's not inconvenient for you."

Ryuki shook his head. "No. On the contrary, I've been looking forward to this."

Reiji raised a brow. "Oh? Why?"

Ryuki leaned closer. "I have something... from Yusho-san."

Reiji's expression stiffened. "...What did he give you?"

"I'll show you. After the duel. But for now, we have a crowd to entertain."

Above, Himika's smile returned.

"So... the boy does carry a thread of fate after all."

Reiji straightened. "Shall we make this an Action Duel?"

Ryuki smirked. "Field generation only. But let's keep it Standard."

"Very well," Reiji said. "You choose the field."

Ryuki scanned the Real Solid Vision options and tapped his selection.

With a flash of energy, the arena darkened. Particles of light danced through the air as the battlefield transformed. Rocky ridges and canyons rose from the ground, sculpting the terrain into the endless red stone valleys of Planet Cray.

The echoes of history, of timelines bent and rewritten, reverberated through the space.

Both duelists activated their disks.

A spark.

A tension.

And then—

"DUEL!"
