"Father Simon, I see you didn't choose the right time to visit me."
Hynek said with a chuckle, then grabbed Father's arm to help him up, and after he looked and saw that Simon was not hurt, he nodded his head and gestured for him to come with him.
Hynek, after walking towards the pantry, pointed at it and said.
"They might be coming any moment. The one you brought, we have to pick Aunt Rozina up and vanish from here. Go check on Aunt Rozina inside the pantry. You know medicine, right? I will try to remove his helmet and armor from this soldier and follow you."
Priest Simon nodded his head, he was very nervous and was shaking, but Hynek's command made him snap out of his trance state, and he went inside without asking any questions.
Hynek went back and found a dagger first, it was small and very handy. Then he found a hunting sword, which was small, and 3 groschen on the corpse. He took everything and stripped him of the helmet and clothes. The guard was wearing a thick gambeson as armor protection and had padded trousers with a belt that could hold more than one thing.
I am too big for this armor and helmet, Simon might find this useful.
Hynek wore the belt instantly and put the dagger in his waist, his waist can hold two swords and something small like this dagger in it now.
Hynek then went into the pantry and saw Simon checking Rozina's condition. As a priest, he knows some medicine. Hynek stood there while looking back at the road constantly.
"She's dead."
Simon suddenly proclaimed he was checking Rozina out for any vital signs on her, but he couldn't find any, he looked back to see Hynek's reaction.
Hynek was shocked and then came to check to be sure, and yes, she was not breathing at all, there was a line of blood tear across her cheeks.
"Maybe it's for the best, she suffered a lot. Wear this helmet and armor, and let's go. If not, we might suffer the same fate or worse."
Hynek said, then gave the armor and helmet he just took from the dead soldier, then took off his leather coat from Rozina. She was although fully naked now, but she doesn't have any use for this coat now.
Aunt I am really sorry about this, but I have to survive as well. I hope you will forgive me.
Hynek was feeling the chill of the cold winter in his upper body this whole time, he was sacrificing for Rozina, but she passed away. He felt grief but, more importantly, the urgency to survive.
"Boy, what are you doing? Stealing from a corpse and also wanting to blemish me with such great sin"
Priest Simon said suddenly when he was given the dead soldier's clothes and also the helmet, although they were a little bloody, it was better than freezing to death.
"Priest, I like your enthusiasm and knowledge, but if you want your fat to freeze, don't wear it, take the hunting sword to defend yourself."
Hynek said, then gave him the hunting sword as well. He already had a sword, and to defend himself, one is enough. He does not know how to wield a sword properly, but if he gets lucky like previously, he can defend himself at the very least.
Hynek didn't wait for the priest to make up his mind. The priest was a man and was not injured, he could take care of himself. Hynek walked outside. The foreign soldier might come soon. He was not certain roads would be safe at this time of the night, and the priest, who was from the Silver mining village, was here, which meant it was also attacked.
Sigh! Father always stopped me from venturing out, he said the outside world is dangerous, and living here might keep my head on my shoulder at the very least.
Well, Father, you are either a saint or Lucifer himself. You were right, it did keep my head on my shoulders, but the cost was too much.
"I am ready, let's go."
Priest Simon came out of the pantry at this time wearing the armor and helmet. He was also clutching the hunting sword in his hand. The armor fit him well, Hynek nodded his head.
"In this dark night, the road doesn't look good to me. There were bandits and weird things in the road. We will hit the road tomorrow as soon as the day breaks."
Hynek said to the priest, at the very least, Priest was a sensible person and knew how to adapt.
"Are we going to stay here the night?"
"Of course not. Follow me. We are going to spend it in the forest. I know a place."
Hynek said, then ran along the village road. After getting to high ground, he looked at the mining village's direction. The castle over there was burning. Priest Simon was an old man, and following Hynek around was a little tough for him.
After crossing the merchant road, Hynek entered the forest. He was from here and knew this forest like the palm of his hand. Along the way, he picked up the torch he threw when he was entering the village, but he didn't light it yet.
"Father Simon, be careful, there are wolves in these woods. Our clothes are full of blood stench, we won't use fire tonight."
Hynek said he was traversing the forest slowly, and with his muscle memory, his destination was the wooden camp he had. There are logs there and also his hidden stash of groschen.
Priest Simon pulled out his hunting sword to defend himself, he was scared shitless in these woods, but he couldn't go anywhere.
After a while they reached the camp. There were three piles of logs and a place to sit near a big tree. Hynek lit a small fire and sat down with the priest. The fire was giving them some warmth. They were very deep inside the forest, so people finding them would be very unlikely.
"What happened to the Skalice Village? Why were you here?"
Hynek asked suddenly, he remembered how Priest was a captive of foreign soldiers.
"I…Sigh! Just like your place, Skalice was also attacked. King Sigismund of Hungary came with a huge army. They were Cuman raiders from Hungary. They attacked suddenly, killed men, took women, and looted the whole village. A captain of twenty men noticed your village from afar, maybe it was also burning, that's why. He sent me a priest to your village with two scouts, and the rest you know."
Priest Simon said, sadly, he didn't even pray after talking so Hynek can understand what a serious and dark situation it was for him.
"I understand. Well, my village was torched by my own people. Czech was a noble lord, young, I assume, and his father is a lord from Rataje."
Hynek said, Priest knows the broader region and might have information on the person who did this.
"Rataje? That sounds wrong. Rataje is a castle town and is an ally to our lord Racek, but you mentioned Young. There are two young lords there, the heir to the estates and House Lipe, Jan Pajcek, and Lord Hanus's son Petr. I guess Petr? But don't even think about revenge. Noble people are way above us, they have means we can't even understand"
Priest Simon said he looked with concern towards Hynek. Hynek smiled, he looked casual hearing the answer and just nodded his head lightly.
"Good that you are not thinking about revenge, eh! You're hurt"
Priest Simon sighed with relief that there was no intention inside Hynek to take revenge, he stood up and checked the wounds of Hynek.
"It's good, but it will fester. You see that flower? It's a marigold. Bring it to me."
Priest Simon said, and he pointed at a golden-colored flower. It was in the dark, so he was a little scared.
"Being a man of God, I thought you were not scared to die."
Hynek said with a smile, then went ahead and grabbed the flowers. He also didn't want to die just yet.
