Chapter 67 - chapter_67

After the dishes were washed, the two of them headed to the lounge.

Diana was already there, focused on her laptop, a faint frown on her face.

Matthew and Jacob decided to watch something instead. it had been a while since they'd spent time this peacefully, without stress.

Diana glanced over at them and then shut her laptop.

- I'm about to pass out. I'm heading to bed.

Jacob looked at the violin resting beside her and said:

_Aren't you going to play something for us?

- I want to, but I'm really tired. I can't focus on anything right now. Sorry.

_Alright then, sleep well!

Diana gave them a small smile and headed upstairs.

Jacob turned to Matthew.

_Don't you think she seemed a bit off?

+Off? Not exactly. But yeah, something was definitely on her mind.

_Like what, you think it could b–

+Now that you've eaten and you're full, how about we actually get back to work?

Matthew cut him off.

Jacob shot him a side-eye but said nothing.

They worked for almost two hours before Matthew finally called it a night.

Jacob threw himself onto the couch.

_Where the hell do you get all this energy from? Let me guess, you're about to go swimming now, right?

+You're not coming?

Jacob raised his hands in surrender.

_No thanks. Enjoy yourself.

Matthew gave a slight shrug and headed for the pool.

Diana was upstairs in her room, scrolling through her phone and replying to some messages.

She didn't have many friends, but the few she did were close even if they rarely saw each other, their bond was solid.

But something was gnawing at her…

She hadn't taken anything to prevent pregnancy, and the thought wouldn't leave her alone.

She had to tell Matthew or the anxiety would never stop.

Instead of going through the shared door between their rooms, she stepped out into the hallway and knocked.

+Come in!

Diana slowly opened the door.

Matthew was leaning against the bed's headboard, glasses on, reading a book.

His hair looked slightly wet.

+ need something?

He asked without taking his eyes off the page.

-That day... at the pool...

Matthew finally looked up.

She stumbled over her words.

- When… that happened, and well, you… um…

+Came inside you?

Her voice trembled.

-Yeah… that. Um... I forgot to take my pill.

But nothing happened, and I'm fine, just… maybe get me some for next time, so there's no issue.

+Alright. Get out.

She blinked.

- What?

Matthew growled and tore his eyes away from the very visible outlines of her nipples under her thin tank top.

+If you don't want me to bend you over this bed and fu.ck you right now, get the hell out.

Diana's breath hitched as she met his eyes.

- O–okay. Sorry!

And with that, she quickly left the room.

Now that her mind was at ease, she could finally sleep in peace.

The stress and overthinking of the past few weeks had worn her down, and she really needed to take better care of herself.

Now that she was past that hesitation, sleep came more easily.

She woke up around 8 a.m.

Spent some time relaxing in the tub, enjoying the scent of the new bath products.

They'd gotten her special body wash, and the old ones-Matthew's-had been taken away.

The new scents weren't bad.

She loved showers, and that fresh feeling afterward...no matter how many times a day she took one, it never felt like enough.

She just towel-dried her hair and stepped out, her hair still damp.

Around 9 a.m., she headed downstairs.

Matthew and Jacob were already dressed and about to leave when they saw her.

_"Oh, look who's up early .Sleeping Beauty!"

Diana didn't answer Jacob's joke. She just greeted them politely and made her way to the kitchen.

Both of their eyebrows raised. Something was clearly up.

_"Something wrong, Diana?"

Jacob asked.

She had a clear frown now, and using a bite of food as an excuse, just nodded silently.

Jacob leaned in and muttered,

_"So something is wrong."

Matthew frowned.

+"Jacob, we have to go. I don't want to be late."

Jacob nodded, then lightly tugged at Diana's wet hair.

_"Go dry your hair, little one. I'll make it up to you when I get back .though I don't even know what I did wrong. But…"

He left the kitchen.

Matthew raised his voice just enough so she'd hear him from where she stood:

+"If anything comes up or you've got questions, ask Enzo or Eric. Today's packed for me .I don't want to lose focus. Got it?"

-"Fine. Just tell them to let me look around the mansion a bit. They don't need to stick to me like glue."

Matthew didn't reply and just headed to the elevator.

_"Bye bye, little one!"

Diana turned sharply and shot Jacob a glare.

Jacob laughed as he stepped into the elevator.

_"Seriously, what did I even do?"

+"I told you… she is an idiot."

After they left, Diana finished her breakfast, read a bit, did some light exercise, and then had lunch.

She'd had enough fun...it was time to work.

She opened her laptop, rubbed her hands together, and chuckled softly.

-"Hey baby… I missed you."
