He walked over to the car and set the box on the back seat.
Something wasn't adding up.
He checked the location of both Matthew and the bodyguards.
Matthew had said he was coming and by the looks of it, he'd be there in five minutes.
It was unlikely… but what if Diana was connected to their enemies?
That meant he'd already acted like a fool by trusting her this far.
From the trunk, he grabbed his favorite handgun and checked the magazine.
Empty.
Quickly, he got to work. Bent over into the trunk, he tried to stay low,
The last thing he needed was someone seeing a gun in his hand.
That's when he heard a sound right by his ear.
He started to turn...
Crack.
A sharp burst of electricity rang through his ears.
His entire body jolted with the current.
His mind began to shut down, vision blurring fast.
He blinked a few times, trying to focus on the figure in front of him.
No good. It was all going dark.
His fingers slackened just before he hit the ground.
He blinked again.
Breathing heavily now, covered in sweat, he let out a groan of pain.
He couldn't focus...only vaguely saw that the person was still standing there. Still. Unmoving.
That was enough to make him grab for the gun with the last strength he had left.
Crack.
Another zap!
She jammed the stun gun into him again just as he fired blindly, the suppressor muffling the shot to a dull pop that barely echoed down the cul-de-sac.
Jacob collapsed to the ground, unconscious.
The pain that shot through her bones was so overwhelming, she couldn't even scream.
Was she… dying?
She instinctively pressed her right hand to her side.
It came away soaked in red.
Her heart had been pumping blood faster just seconds ago.
Now, a cold sweat clung to her forehead.
Dizzy. Disoriented.
Like someone who'd just downed an entire bottle of whiskey.
Where was she supposed to go?
