Chapter 4 - Derek Finds Out About Allison's Family

After school, Stiles and I went to Derek at the request of Deton to learn more about werewolf history. "Scott, I need to tell you about Allison's family; they are hunters," Deark said gloomily. "I already know that," "I saw her dad pick her up the day after we got attacked," Scott replied. "She is dangerous; she could be and probably is working with her family," Deark shouted. "She's not," Scott responded, "Just because you're an alpha does not mean they don't have WAYS of dealing with you, yellow wolvesbane, or just enough normal wolvesbane would leave dead or down enough for them to kill you". Derek screamed, "That's where you wronged me, and Scott is not normal werewolves; we don't have any of your weaknesses." Stiles laughed. "What? What do you mean?". Derek asked, "No mountain ash will stop us. Any wolvesbane or supernatural, or werewolf weakness, is going to affect us," Scott stated. "That's not fair," Derek said. "Well, you can blame my luck, a chain reaction caused too much energy to go into the nemton, and it had to be realized, and normally the nemton would store just in case it was short on energy, but I got bit the moment its energy increased and for some reason the energy gave me special powers and made me and my pack strong" Scott smiled.

RADIO ANNOUNCER: [on the radio] In other news, local authorities remain perplexed by the animal attacks plaguing Beacon Hills...

Kate scoffs and chuckles under her breath, clearly amused by the ignorance of the town's officials, before reaching out to turn the station to music instead of talk radio. As she drives, she looks into the rearview mirror and touches up her lip gloss, only half paying attention to the road. Behind her car, a dark figure leaps from just outside the frame to the other side of the frame and growls under its breath, making it clear it's the newly-revealed Alpha chasing after her.

Oblivious, Kate continues down the road in her SUV, patting her fingers against the steering wheel in time with the music. She then starts bobbing her head to the rhythm as she turns to look to the right, missing the sight of the Werewolf with glowing red eyes running alongside her on the right, which can be seen through the driver's side window. However, when Kate's line of sight returns to the road itself, the Alpha melts back into the shadows.

Despite missing the sight of the Werewolf, it's clear that her senses are on high alert, and she visually scans the streets as she drives, her head swiveling back and forth to get a wider look at her surroundings. After a moment, she turns around to look behind her but sees no cars or other people in her vicinity.

She turns back around just in time to realize she's about to run a stop sign. A truck turning onto the perpendicular street squeals its tires, the driver hitting the brakes and honking loudly, causing Kate to slam on her brakes. She takes a deep breath, closing her eyes as she recovers from the shock, then opens them and mutters under her breath while lightly thumping the back of her head against the headrest.

KATE: Nice driving, Kate. Nice.

She takes another breath, about to drive again, when she hears something land on the roof of her SUV. She looks up toward the noise, and suddenly, the Alpha breaks the glass in the driver's door window and grabs her by the left arm, attempting to yank her outside. Kate fights back, screaming as she struggles to break free of its grip.

KATE: No! No! No!

She pulls away from the door, reaching into the backseat and grabbing her shotgun. She cocks it with one hand and shoots upwards through the ceiling of the car, seemingly grazing the Alpha, which was braced on it.

This causes the Werewolf to let go, allowing Kate to unbuckle her seatbelt and somersault out of the car from the passenger door, landing in a roll on the ground outside. Kneeling outside her SUV, she aims at the roof but sees that the Werewolf has moved. Looking around carefully, she stands to her feet and begins to taunt the Alpha to lure it closer.

KATE: Come on!

When this doesn't provoke a response, she fires a warning shot before repeating herself louder.

KATE: COME ON!

Kate cocks the gun again, letting an empty shell fall to the ground with a clink as her eyes dart around, searching for the lurking Alpha. A smile creeps onto her face, revealing her thrill for the hunt.

Derek, also out and about, has joined the hunt. He stumbles upon a small puddle of blood and dips his fingers into it, trying to identify its source.

As he focuses his senses, he hears a noise above and looks up, spotting the Alpha on the roof of a nearby building. But when the Alpha sees him, it rushes away, climbing the side of the upper stories, growling. Derek leaps onto the upper sidewalk, running after it.

Meanwhile, Kate closes the trunk of her SUV and walks around to the driver's side with her sniper rifle in hand, flashlight illuminating the way as she jogs toward the sound of the Alpha climbing.

Derek continues running down a row of warehouses, jumping over boxes and generators until he reaches some scaffolding on another building. He hoists himself onto the roof, running alongside it in pursuit of the Alpha.

He leaps onto the corner of a neighboring roof, getting into a tripod stance as he visually tracks the Alpha, leaping across to a roof several buildings away. As Derek gets to his feet, he prepares to jump across a gap, but Kate, who has been tracking him with her rifle, takes aim and shoots. Derek is hit mid-jump, the shock of being shot causing him to lose momentum, rolling down the side of the roof and landing hard on the cement ground below.

DEREK: [groaning] UGHHHHH!
