Chapter 6 - The Apocalypse

Anastasia pulled back from the hug, her eyes locking onto Aaron's. "You know, I've been thinking a lot about the future," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "And I have to tell you, it's not looking good."

Aaron's expression turned serious. "What do you mean?"

Anastasia took a deep breath. "The natural disasters that are prevalent in every country? That's just the beginning. The temperature is going to fall, and it's going to be unnatural. Things are going to escalate to a whole new level."

Aaron's eyes widened in alarm. "What kind of things?"

Anastasia's voice was steady. "There's going to be a widespread flu pandemic. People will be infected, and...and it won't just be a normal flu. Ninety percent of people who get infected will turn into zombies."

Aaron's face went pale. "Zombies? You mean, like, the undead?"

Anastasia nodded grimly. "Yes, exactly. And it's not just the zombies. The world will be plagued by natural disasters, and the social structure will collapse. We'll have to fight to survive."

Aaron's expression turned determined. "We'll face it together, sis. We'll do whatever it takes to stay safe."

Anastasia smiled weakly, grateful for her brother's support. "I know we will, Aaron. But there's more. The flu...it's not just a simple infection. Ten percent of people who get infected will develop superpowers."

Aaron's eyes widened in surprise. "Superpowers? What kind of superpowers?"

Anastasia shrugged. "Different kinds, wind, fire, water, earth, space, light, darkness, ice - name it. But I do know that it won't be just the zombies we'll have to worry about. There will be people with superpowers, and they'll be just as deadly."

As they talked, Anastasia couldn't shake off the feeling that the apocalypse was closer than they thought. The natural disasters were already happening, and the zombies would soon follow. They had to be prepared to face whatever came their way.

Aaron's eyes locked onto Anastasia's, his expression intense. "I'm so sorry, and I'm glad you're opening up to me about your past life," he said. "But I have to ask, how did you die? What really happened?"

Anastasia hesitated, her eyes dropping. She didn't want to talk about it, but Aaron's gentle prodding had her weakening.

"Fine," she said finally, her voice barely above a whisper. "But I will tell you this: my past life was a mistake. I was stupid to trust Julian. He fucked us all over."

Aaron's eyes widened in surprise. "Julian? So that is how you knew he cheated and wanted to break your engagement with him." He stated assuredly

Anastasia nodded, her face twisted in a mixture of anger and pain. "Yes, that bastard cheated with my roommate, and it had been going on for a long time. He killed us all. I was so stupid to trust him."

Aaron's expression softened, and he reached out to put a hand on Anastasia's shoulder. "I'm sorry, sis. I can only imagine how painful that must be for you."

Anastasia took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down. "It's okay. I'm just glad I can warn you about what's coming. You need to be prepared.

"I've been meaning to ask but you left in a haste yesterday." She stared interrogatively. " How do you know that bastard is a serial cheater, or better still, how long have you known?"

Aaron laughed, lightening up the tense mood, his eyes locked onto Anastasia's. "I didn't know anything; everytime I checked that guy, he was just too perfect to be real. But tell me more about the apocalypse. What else can we expect?"

Anastasia took a deep breath before responding. " Winter came early in Virelia, hitting like a storm that people weren't expecting. The crops died, and even after the winter, they didn't grow again. The winter was long, lasting for a whole year. It was so cold that many people died from hypothermia and frostbite. Heaters became expensive, and food was scarce. The cost of living skyrocketed, and people struggled to survive.

As the winter dragged on, food became a luxury. People couldn't grow crops, and the ones they had were limited. They had to resort to growing cold-resistant food and the country had to open up the grainary, but even that was a struggle to get. The winter was harsh, and it seemed like it would never end. But then, something even worse happened.".

Aaron nodded, taking mental notes. "Okay, got it. So, what happened next?"

"After the temperature fall, the widespread flu pandemic hit our country. People started getting infected, and soon, the zombies began to appear. It was chaos," Anastasia said, her voice barely above a whisper.

"And what about the plants and animals?" Aaron asked, his curiosity getting the better of him.

"That's the weird part. In the forest areas, the plants started growing at an alarming rate. The grass grew taller, and the trees seemed to stretch towards the sky. It was as if they were competing for sunlight," Anastasia said, her eyes wide with wonder.

"What about the animals?" Aaron asked, his voice filled with excitement.

"Ah, the animals. Within six months after the apocalypse, they started mutating. They became bigger and wilder, and some of them developed strange abilities. But what's interesting is that some people's domesticated animals still listened to them. They became wiser, more intelligent, and more loyal," Anastasia said, a hint of a smile on her face.

"They're called mutated beasts. Some of them are friendly, while others are deadly. You have to be careful around them," Anastasia warned.

"Mutated beasts, huh?" Aaron repeated.

"And as if that wasn't enough, the extreme heat came after the winter. The temperature rose to unprecedented levels, and the heat was unbearable. People were desperate for relief, and they began to crave the cold weather that had plagued them just months before.

The heat lasted for two years, and it was devastating. Water sources dried up, and people struggled to find enough water to drink. The heat was so intense that it seemed like the sun was sucking the life out of everything.

But then, the rain came, and people were relieved. However, the rain didn't come in a gentle, soothing way. It came in torrents, flooding cities and towns. The disaster was widespread, and many people lost their homes. Some places experienced tsunamis, especially the islands, which were hit hard by the rising sea levels.

During the heat, forest fires raged across the globe, burning down trees and wildlife habitats. The air was thick with smoke, and people struggled to breathe. It was a desperate time, and many people wondered if they would survive.

As the rain fell intermittently for six months, the world began to rebuild. The military and some hidden families built different bases around the country for shelter but most of those places are worse, it became a dog eat dog world." Anastasia grieved.

As they talked, Anastasia couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. The apocalypse was coming, and they had to be prepared. She was glad to have Aaron by her side, someone who could help her survive the coming disaster.

"I think that's enough for now," Anastasia said, her voice barely above a whisper. "We need to start preparing for the apocalypse. We can't just sit around and wait for it to happen."

Aaron nodded in agreement. "You're right, sis. Let's get started. We have a lot of work to do."

They knew it wouldn't be easy, but they were determined to survive. Terra was changing, and they had to adapt. But with each other, they felt a sense of strength and determination. They would face the apocalypse together, and they would survive.
