Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: An Afternoon with Both Bad Friends and Beautiful Girls

Murakami Yuu returned home carrying fruit.

As he stood in the entryway taking off his shoes, he unconsciously muttered "I'm home," then paused in surprise and chuckled to himself.

The first thing he did upon returning home was turn on the air conditioning in the living room to release cool air, then went to take a quick shower. After simply drying off his body, he collapsed on the sofa, eating the grapes he had just bought while watching a comedy TV show.

This god-like lifestyle was quite refreshing.

Although he didn't have any cheat abilities that transmigrators typically possess, Murakami Yuu still felt very happy.

To say nothing else, hadn't he gotten lucky yesterday just because he was handsome? And it was the kind where the other person actively came to him.

His current life's starting point was much better than his previous life—he didn't need to do things he didn't want to do because of economic concerns. For someone who had once been a corporate slave, this was undoubtedly a very happy thing.

Japanese high schools ended early, and his memories showed he hadn't joined any clubs. Since he had plenty of free time after school, perhaps he could casually find a part-time job to experience life while earning some pocket money?

He couldn't become complacent just because his current economic situation was good—basic preparation for rainy days was still necessary. Most importantly, he needed to maintain his academic performance and, when necessary, actively participate in activities to add honors, which would help his future life.

Work was still far off, but he'd still need to do it eventually. He could set aside all concerns and choose a profession he truly liked. A freelance writer working from home? Or perhaps a Western-style chef specializing in high-end ingredients?

Oh right, he had the racial skill of Chinese fluency—targeted translation work seemed completely feasible too...

Well, no rush. He was only a second-year in high school—he could consider it slowly...

Sprawling on the sofa like a couch potato with his thoughts wandering, Murakami Yuu soon heard the doorbell.

It was Iizuka Takeya and Toritsuka Reita.

After letting the two of them in, Murakami Yuu sighed.

"I say, don't you two have anything else to do? Why do you come running here every day?"

"It's just more convenient at your place."

Iizuka Takeya had an older sister at home, while Toritsuka Reita was adopted and raised in a temple. Their homes indeed didn't have the freedom of Murakami Yuu living alone.

They liked coming here because no one would disturb them, and they could be more unrestrained.

"What are you here for this time? Playing games?"

"No, it's something much more important than that."

Iizuka Takeya sat on the sofa and casually ate a grape.

Murakami Yuu thought for a moment, suddenly understanding, and picked up his wallet from the coffee table.

"I almost forgot—speaking of which, I haven't given you my share of the money for the mixer dinner last night. How much was it?"

"No need, it's just small change. Who's asking you for that!"

Iizuka Takeya said dissatisfied.

"Eh? Then what is it?"

Murakami Yuu tossed his wallet back onto the coffee table, somewhat puzzled.

"Girls! Girls! That cute girl who left with you, called Tachibana Rui!"

Toritsuka Reita sat beside Murakami Yuu with a sleazy grin, one hand around his neck, the other slowly patting his thigh.

"I really underestimated you. Just going to the bathroom, and you managed to win her over. You're quite bold!"

Murakami Yuu calmly moved away from Toritsuka Reita, shifting one butt-width to the side.

"Don't guess wildly. It's not what you think. We just had a simple meal and then went home separately."

"But we came to knock on your door last night, and no one was home."

Toritsuka Reita moved closer again, pretending to sniff at him.

"I smell it—the scent of lies."

Murakami Yuu: "..."

Had Japanese high school boys really become this idle? Not going home to sleep at night but running to knock on other people's doors? This gossipy?

"Although it's a bit awkward to say this, apart from us two, you don't have any friends close enough to stay overnight at their house. Plus, there are unnatural scratch marks on the back of your neck and the outside of your upper arms. That position with that shape easily brings to mind scenes of getting carried away in the heat of passion.

From this, we can conclude that you either went to Tachibana Rui-san's house or went out to get a hotel room!"

Iizuka Takeya crossed his hands in front of his nose bridge in a confident "just as planned" pose.

If he added a pointing gesture, it would give off a strong "there is only one truth" vibe.

Murakami Yuu unconsciously touched the back of his neck. He was wearing a loose-collared t-shirt after his shower, and some of last night's marks were indeed showing.

Scary Iizuka Takeya—his academic performance was usually average, but he always had unparalleled keen observation when it came to these matters. He'd been found out.

Sorry, Tachibana Rui-san. I didn't want to tell them—they figured it out themselves.

Murakami Yuu sighed.

"Can we skip this topic? I promised someone I wouldn't talk about it. I can't go back on my word."

"Yuu, please, just one question. I just need you to answer one question."

Toritsuka Reita pressed his palms together.

"As long as it's not some question that exposes my sexual preferences."

"Don't worry, it's very simple and doesn't involve any personal privacy. It's just—between you and Tachibana Rui-san, who made the first move?"

"Her, I guess."

"I see, understood."

Toritsuka Reita thought for a moment, then turned his head toward Iizuka Takeya.

"Takeya, do you remember what you said to me on the way to the mixer yesterday?"

"Don't stare at their chests with perverted eyes?"

"No, you swore that 'girls who actively throw themselves at you don't exist in real life'..."

Iizuka Takeya smiled without speaking, just pointed at Murakami Yuu, then gestured toward the bathroom with his chin.

Toritsuka Reita looked back and forth in the direction he indicated, puzzled eyes showing.

Murakami Yuu stroked his chin and couldn't help but laugh.

"Takeya means there's a mirror in the bathroom. Look at it seriously and think for a while—you'll find your answer there."

Toritsuka Reita hit his palm with his fist in sudden realization.

"I see, it's because of looks!"

Then his smile turned cold, and with a dark gaze, he pounced on Iizuka Takeya. The two began wrestling on the sofa.

"You dare call me ugly!"

"You said that yourself!"

"You damn..."

"Don't... I was wrong, I was wrong!"

The atmosphere gradually became heated.

...

The time approached five in the evening.

"Are you two eating dinner at my place tonight?"

"No, I need to go back."

"Me too."

Both were sitting on the sofa facing the TV screen without turning their heads.

Murakami Yuu, wearing an apron in the kitchen, nodded.

That was perfect—it saved him the trouble of preparing ingredients for two extra people.

"Ding dong, ding dong."

The doorbell again?

If he remembered correctly, in the short two days since coming to this world, this was the fourth time the doorbell had rung.

"Yuu, you're busy, I'll get it."

Iizuka Takeya stood up and walked toward the entryway.

"Good afternoon, Murakami-kun... Eh?"

After opening the door, it was an energetic female voice that became puzzled after realizing something.

Seeing Toritsuka Reita stand up and face the entryway with glowing eyes, Murakami Yuu put down the peeling knife in his hand and walked to the living room to look toward the door.

Eh?

That was...

Ogiso Setsuna?
