~Kaida Orion POV~
The courtyard still smelled of wet roots, even as the rain eased, the air felt heavier, as if something under the temple stones was breathing.
I tightened my cloak and stared at the central drain where the green sigil had faded. Silverline daughter. Come alone when bells dry, the whisper ringing in my ears, as real as if someone had leaned close and spoken it.
Lupus must have seen my face pale because he touched my shoulder. "What did you hear?"
I hesitated, his gaze was calm, but I felt the weight of the message pressing against my tongue. "Something… calling me," I admitted. "It knows my blood name."
"Silverline?" Biat muttered, overhearing. "That's older than the wolf houses! Whoever's calling, they've been studying you for a long time."
Rachael crossed her arms, dripping with rain. "And they want you alone, no good comes from that."
