~Kaida Orion POV~
Suddenly a knock thundered at the door, Biat burst in without waiting for permission, his face was pale, and for the first time since I'd known him, he looked… worried.
"There's a rider at the east gate," Biat said quickly. "Human envoy, Magistrate Kia's seal. And he's not alone."
Lupus's expression darkened. "Now? After last night?"
Biat nodded. "They bring chests...wedding chests, they request blessing."
The word blessing hit me like a stone, humans rarely asked for our rites unless they had something to gain....or something to hide. And after everything that had happened with the Weaver, I could feel in my bones this was no simple visit.
Lupus grabbed his coat. "Have them wait in the east hall, no one lets them near the altar until I see their ledgers."
Biat left at once, his boots echoing down the corridor.
Biat looked at me, and in his eyes was the question he didn't voice: 'Will you come?'
'Of course I would.' I said in my mind.
