Chapter 43 - Acting

"I know one of them doesn't have class today and is resting in the dorm. I'll take you to him."

Deputy Director Ou opened the door and was about to take Fang Ling with him.

"What about Man Yun and me?" Lin Tianyang asked immediately.

"Go notify the other teachers to block the pursuers. We can't let Fang Ling's plan be ruined."

"She definitely didn't come alone. Even if she were that dumb, the City Lord's people aren't."

With that, Deputy Director Ou took Fang Ling along a shortcut toward the teachers' dormitories.

In the teachers' dormitory area, he banged on the door of a small courtyard.

"Hua Changshou, get out here. I need you for something urgent!"

A burly, broad-shouldered, bald soul master came out of the house, yawning, and wearing somewhat disheveled clothes.

"Deputy Director? I don't have class today, do I?"

Ou replied, "This isn't about class. I need your help with something small."

"Come, let me explain..."

Meanwhile, on the academy's only entrance road, two groups stood in confrontation.

On the academy's side stood a chubby old man with black hair and purple eyes as the leader.

After using Martial Soul Possession, he took the form of a humanoid wild boar, jet-black bristly fur like steel needles, thick coarse skin, and two long tusks protruding from his mouth.

The five soul rings on him, perfectly distributed by age, showed that he was a Soul King.

He was Liu Yueban, the academy's Combat Training Director, and a friend of the dean. He had watched Lin Tianyang grow up.

His genius disciple, this combat prodigy, was in danger. How could he not intervene?

Lin Tianyang and Shu Manyun stood slightly behind him.

More than a dozen Soul Sect teachers had revealed their soul rings, blocking the path.

Several Soul Master-level teachers were still arriving.

If someone dared to seek revenge inside the academy, fine, if they were strong, they could endure it.

But the City Lord's Mansion? Who did they think they were?

They were nothing more than losers at the hands of the dean.

Now they dared to break into the academy?

On the City Lord's side, their leader was also a Soul King with five soul rings.

His body was covered in crimson feathers, with sharp claws and a razor-sharp beak.

What drew attention was a bald spot on his head that was bright blood red.

This man was An Yufei's brother, An Zailong, who had earlier flown into the academy.

He held a position in the City Lord's Mansion.

Behind him stood nine well-trained soul masters, three Soul Sects and six Soul Masters.

Despite their discipline, the power gap was obvious.

Compared to the academy's side with over ten Soul Sect-level teachers, their momentum was noticeably weaker.

"Commander An, you've crossed the line today!"

Liu Yueban radiated a chilling aura.

His squinting eyes were filled with no emotion.

With a flash of his soul rings, he stomped the ground hard, sending a powerful shockwave toward the other side.

Since the founding of the academy, this was the first time someone had tried to break in and commit murder.

They were trying to kill the dean's disciple, one who had won over ten life-and-death battles in the Great Soul Arena!

So arrogant. Where did they get the nerve?

To seek revenge because they lost a match to the death? Aren't they afraid of becoming a laughingstock in the city?

Commander An gave a wry smile. "Sorry, Director Liu, we're not here to kill Fang Ling."

"My sister lost her mind over her son's death. I came here to take her back."

"Take her back?" Liu Yueban sneered, releasing his full aura. "She injured the gatekeeper, broke into the academy, and tried to kill one of our genius students."

"And you think you can just walk in and take her back with your words? Where do you think you are?"

"Director Liu, I" Commander An tried to explain.

"Attack! Let's settle this with our fists!"

With a shout, Liu Yueban charged forward.

Everyone else couldn't wait to act.

No matter who, the teachers at War King Academy were all good at fighting.

Now that they outnumbered their opponents, why would they hold back?

While the entrance road was caught in a fierce battle, Fang Ling's side presented a different scene.

It was rather laid-back.

He found a clearing, laid out a mat, and lay down comfortably under the sun.

He casually tapped his foot and hummed an unknown tune.

Combined with the occasional chatter from nearby students, the atmosphere was oddly cheerful.

The bald teacher was also resting not far away.

"When do you think the person trying to kill you will show up?"

"I..." Fang Ling was about to say he didn't know, when a flash of red appeared in his vision.

"They're here!"

He was the only disabled student at War King Academy and had deliberately made himself highly visible.

It was easy to spot him.

Sure enough, just as the red flash appeared in Fang Ling's eyes, An Yufei noticed the boy who was living so happily.

Her son had been killed by him in a life-and-death match, and now he was enjoying life?

Unforgivable, he deserved to die!

That last thread of reason in her heart snapped.

With a fierce shout, she dove toward Fang Ling like a hawk.

"Give me back my son!"

When she got within ten meters of him, her fourth purple soul ring lit up.

In an instant, A Thousand Feathers Unleashed.

Like a flurry of arrows, the feathers ripped through the air.

Each long, fiery feather blazed with radiant flames.

Their speed rivaled that of meteors, as though tearing through the sky.

Each feather carried overwhelming hatred and immense power, any single one could easily crush Fang Ling.

Opening with her fourth soul skill showed just how deep her hatred ran.

She meant to kill him with one blow.

Fang Ling looked "terrified" and rolled and scrambled.

He portrayed the fear of impending death perfectly.

"Teacher, save me!"

"Die, Fang Ling! No one can save you now!"

An Yufei's hoarse, hate-filled scream rang in his ears.

She seemed to see Fang Ling being torn to pieces by the fiery feathers and felt a wave of joy.

Just then, as Fang Ling ran forward, a figure holding a shield suddenly appeared in front of him.

It was a defense-type Soul Sect, Hua Changshou, using his third soul skill: Blink.

He could instantly teleport up to ten meters with his shield, allowing him to protect others at top speed.

His fourth soul skill activated, and the originally half-man-high shield instantly grew larger.

The surface of the shield glowed with mysterious patterns as it expanded to match his full height.

With a heavy thud, he stood in front of Fang Ling like a wall.

But not all of the attack was blocked, he deliberately let some of the impact and flames leak through at the start.

Under An Yufei's shifting expression, first tense, then excited, Fang Ling let out a blood-curdling scream.

"Ahhh !"

"Fang Ling, are you okay? Fang Ling! Fang Ling!"

As the giant shield vanished, Hua Changshou called out in concern.

Though his acting wasn't great, his voice had a barely suppressed laugh.

But paired with Fang Ling's charred, cracked skin, blackened body lying face-up, and smoke coming out of his mouth, the scene was enough to convince the woman flying above.

Her ambush had seriously injured him.

She was about to attack again when a shout rang out:

"Someone's committing an assault here! All flying Soul Sects, get up there and capture this madwoman!"

An Yufei didn't continue her attack. She let herself be captured and only laughed madly.
