Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Saving Roger in Loguetown, East Blue

Sea Circle Calendar, September 1, 1498.

A large crowd had gathered in the plaza of Loguetown in the East Blue. The scene was bustling with noise as people whispered and shouted excitedly.

"Where am I?"

Reid furrowed his brows. He remembered just moments ago he was watching the brightest shooting star streak across the sky.

"Judging by how people are dressed... Did I transmigrate? Why are there so many people here? Ugh, it stinks! Why do these people have such strong body odor?"

Pinching his nose, Reid looked around, completely confused. Then, he followed the gazes of the crowd toward the execution platform. Suddenly, he had a strange sense of familiarity.

"Huh? That guy kneeling up there… looks kind of familiar?"

Reid muttered to himself, feeling both astonished and curious about what was going to happen next.

"Look! The legendary Pirate King is about to be executed!"

"His treasure… The Pirate King found the great treasure!"

"The Navy chose to execute him in his hometown. Looks like they want to make an example out of him."

"What a shame. If I could get my hands on the Pirate King's treasure, I'd be rich..."

"Even the Pirate King can't escape death!"

Hearing all this, Reid was shaken to the core.

"What?! Pirate King? I transmigrated into the One Piece world?! No wonder that guy looked familiar—he's the Pirate King from the manga!"

Reid was utterly shocked. As an ordinary guy, being thrown into a world like this was something he couldn't process immediately. But at the same time, he was beyond excited—he was a die-hard One Piece fan!

"I really transmigrated… Damn!"

As he sighed inwardly, he looked back up at the execution platform, and memories of the epic battle between Roger and Whitebeard flooded his mind. Their clash of Haki had reached its peak.

Originally it had been a sword clash between Roger's saber and Whitebeard's naginata—but what truly collided was their Haki.

Snapping back to reality, Reid gritted his teeth.

"Damn it! I was heartbroken when I read about Roger's execution in the manga, and now I have to watch it happen live?! Damn it all... if only I could stop it!"

Looking at Roger on the platform, laughing freely as if he wasn't about to die—filled Reid with even more frustration.

Just then, a voice echoed in his mind:

[Detected intense mental fluctuation from the Child of Destiny. God-level Encyclopedia Collection System successfully activated. You have obtained Healing Ability.]

"Huh? Who's talking?"

Before he could even react, a flood of information poured into his brain.

Reid instinctively repeated the words in his mind:

[God-Level Encyclopedia Collection System: Anything you see is automatically catalogued.

You will gain the full ability of what you've seen. However, there's a limit, Haki must be cultivated by the Child of Destiny.]

Reid trembled with excitement. He was just a loser back home, and now… could this be his big break? No, not just a comeback—this was the rise of a king!

"If that's the case, then maybe I can save Roger…"

Just then, a bunch of cards floated in front of Reid's vision. The system spoke again:

[Ordinary Human. Level: 1]

"So... this is the Encyclopedia? That means I just need to see someone and I get their powers?"

Reid flipped through the catalog inside the system and was thrilled—only to quickly be disappointed.

"Damn… They're all just regular people here. If only there were some real badasses around."

He shook his head. Despite having an overpowered system, he still couldn't save Roger. Based on what he recalled from the manga, characters like Garp, Sengoku, and Kong weren't presen, only the Shichibukai, young Shanks, and Buggy.

Still not fully adjusted physically, mentally, or emotionally to this world, Reid's mind went momentarily blank. He smacked himself on the head and closed his eyes tightly.

Moments later, he felt more grounded. Standing firm on the earth gave him a sense of reality.

Just then, the system's voice rang out again:

[Garp: Vice Admiral of the Navy Headquarters. Nickname: Iron Fist Garp. Navy Hero. Master of Advanced Haki. Participated in the God Valley Incident. Rank: King Level.]

[Bogard: Garp's assistant. Long-time operative. Participated in the God Valley Incident.

[Sengoku: Admiral of the Navy. Devil Fruit: Human-Human Fruit, Mythical Zoan Type, Buddha Form. Master of Advanced Haki. Nickname: Sengoku the Buddha. Tactical Genius. Rank: King Level.]

"What? Garp, Sengoku, and Bogard are here too? Why weren't they in the manga or anime? Did Oda intentionally leave them out to add them back in a flashback later? Also… King Level?"

"Bogard was at God Valley too? Is he secretly that powerful?"

Reid was thrilled. As a One Piece fan, seeing these iconic characters appear in real life felt surreal.

"Wait, now's not the time to fanboy. Roger's about to be executed, I need to think of a plan!"

He turned his eyes back to Roger on the platform.

[Gol D. Roger: Captain of the Roger Pirates. Master of Advanced Haki in all three types. Weapon: Supreme Grade Sword – Ace. Technique: Divine Departure. Extra Skill: Voice of All Things. Level: King.]

"King level… Damn, that's strong. But still... he's going to be executed. Wait! Doesn't that mean I now have Roger's abilities too? Alright then, let's try awakening Roger's powers!"

After a few seconds, Reid didn't feel any change in his body. "No reaction? Is the system lying? Or am I using it wrong?"

He began looking around nervously. "Maybe these people are too high-level? Right! There were others on-site, maybe I can scan them instead."

Reid quickly recalled names: "Buggy, Shanks, Dracule Mihawk, Dragon, Doflamingo, Crocodile, Moria, and Vice Admiral Smoker."

"Too bad none of them have Conqueror's Haki… Whatever, let's keep expanding the system's database for now."

He mumbled to himself and moved through the crowd.

"Is that Buggy?"

A card floated in front of him, and the system's voice echoed:

[Buggy the Clown: Bara Bara no Mi (Chop-Chop Fruit) user. Level: Unknown]

"Unknown? Makes sense—he's only 15 right now. But he'll be a Yonko someday… What a sneaky guy."

"Wait a minute… That means I've gained the Chop-Chop ability too? Even if my body is cut up, I won't die! Still, that's only good for defense..."

Deciding to aim higher, Reid went to find Mihawk. In his heart, Mihawk was near Yonko level.

"There he is, Mihawk!"

Just a glimpse was enough to unlock another card:

[Dracule Mihawk: Nickname: Hawk-Eye. Worlds Strongest Swordsman. Future Shichibukai. Weapon: Dagger, Black Blade Yoru. Abilities: Swordsmanship, Armament and Observation Haki. Level: Top-Tier Shichibukai.]

"Future Shichibukai? Oh right, the Shichibukai system was only established after Roger's death when Sengoku became Fleet Admiral. But… I didn't expect this system to have predictive abilities too!"

Reid was shocked that the system could predict the future. He had already thought being able to harvest other people's abilities was overpowered enough.

At that moment, Mihawk suddenly turned his head and looked directly at Reid.

Reid was startled and quickly pretended to look elsewhere.

"That guy was staring at me just now? Turns out he's just an ordinary person."

Mihawk muttered to himself and looked away.

"That was close! From now on, I can only glance at people, no more staring."

Reid wiped the sweat from his face, still shaken. He was puzzled, though, why hadn't Garp or Sengoku reacted like that?

"Maybe it was just a coincidence. So many people are looking at each other, it's normal. Still, if Roger doesn't die today, that would be interesting. I might even get to witness the full extent of his strength in this world."

He sighed inwardly but started to accept reality a bit more.

"Forget it. All of this was written by Oda. Even if I'm in the world of One Piece now, changing the ending isn't going to be easy."

Since he had nothing better to do, Reid continued looking for the other characters.

[Shanks: Nickname "Red-Hair." Level: 2]

"Huh? No prophecy for this one? And only Level 2… Well, I guess that makes sense. He's just a regular teen right now. He probably won't become strong until he sets out to sea and trains."

Reid was confused. Was the prophecy system random?

"Whatever. I'll stop overthinking it. Shanks still has his arm right now—maybe I'll have the chance to warn him in the future. It'd help Oda patch up that plot hole, too."

[Donquixote Doflamingo: Future Shichibukai. Ito Ito no Mi (String-String Fruit) user. Armament and Conqueror's Haki. Level: Top-tier Shichibukai]

[Sir Crocodile: Future Shichibukai. Suna Suna no Mi (Sand-Sand Fruit) user. Level: Mid-tier Shichibukai]

"Mid-tier? Seems like the system bases ranks on future potential. But then why is Shanks only Level 2? Also, Crocodile's rank feels too low. Guess the system's not perfect, Crocodile's just held back by appearing too early in the series."

[Gecko Moria: Future Shichibukai. Kage Kage no Mi (Shadow-Shadow Fruit) user. Level: Low-tier Shichibukai]

"Moria should at least have Armament Haki, right? Why doesn't the system mention it? Or… does he not have it at this point in time?"

Shaking his head, Reid continued looking for more people.

[Smoker: Future Navy Captain. Future user of the Smoke-Smoke Fruit and Armament Haki. Level: Top-tier Navy Captain]

"Whoa… another future rank. He's around 12 now. He won't become a Vice Admiral until after the Summit War."

[Dragon: Self-established Freedom Army Leader. Future Leader of the Revolutionary Army. Abilities: Unknown. Level: Unknown]

"Freedom Army? Sounds like a self-formed militia. But then it says he'll become leader of the Revolutionary Army? Maybe that means it's just a placeholder name for now? Dragon is mysterious as always."

Reid was still filled with curiosity. Dragon had always been enigmatic, and now the system had given him some insight.

Suddenly, people in the plaza began shouting:

"Hey, Pirate King! Where did you hide the treasure? Tell us already!"

"Yeah! You're about to die, don't be so selfish! Tell us where the treasure is!"

"You must've had a mountain of treasure! At least tell us where it is before you die!"

The crowd was stunned at first by the bold questions, then erupted in frenzied excitement.

One by one, people started yelling eagerly, even drooling a little from anticipation.

"The Pirate King really does have treasure, right? A legendary hoard hidden away?"

"The One Piece… Where is it?!"

Hearing all this, Reid's heart skipped a beat. "Oh no! This is the scene where Roger is about to be executed!"

His heart pounded in his chest. he was about to witness the Pirate King's death in person.

"Hahahaha! Want my treasure? You can have it! I left it all in one place. If you want it, you'll have to search the seas! My entire treasure is out there! Go, go find it! Arghahahaha!"

Roger laughed loudly, not the least bit afraid of death. In fact, he looked like he was enjoying himself.

"It's such a waste for Roger to die like this. If only he could live… The system even said I have healing powers? What a joke. This system is such a scam, just a flashy, useless piece of garbage! Still… if I could really save Roger, that would change everything. Otherwise, Roger dies now and only appears in flashbacks afterward."

Reid shook his head in disappointment. Roger's strength had always been a subject ofheated debate among fans, some believed he couldn't even beat a Navy Admiral and only held the Pirate King title because of his knowledge of the Void Century. His bounty being nearly 6 billion was supposedly due to that, too. But even so, Reid couldn't help but hope Roger might survive.

At that moment, another card floated into his vision:

[Patrick Redfield: Also known as "Red Count." Future Mythical Zoan Vampire-type Bat Fruit user. Swordsmanship, hand-to-hand combat, advanced Observation Haki. Level: Emperor-tier.]

"Huh? Red Count? Where is he?"

Reid looked around. Since the system had shown him the card, that meant he must've laid eyes on Redfield without realizing.

"Too bad… Even Redfield doesn't have Conqueror's Haki. But then again, even if he did—so what?"

"The two executioners are about to act. Roger… goodbye. It's not that I don't want to save you, bro, I just don't have the strength to. Ugh, screw it! One last try. System, lend me your strength! Awaken ability! Release Conqueror's Haki!"

Reid shouted the command in his heart, feeling a little foolish. But maybe that was just the shock of transmigrating affecting his nerves.

Whoosh—! A powerful wave of pressure suddenly surged outward.

"Who dares?! Trying to rescue Roger?! You've got some nerve ignoring me!"

"Vice Admiral Garp, someone is here! How incredible," Bogard commented.

Garp's eyes widened. He had already ordered heavy security. All of Roger's crew had been blocked from entering.

"Whoever it is—they'll die trying to save Roger!"

Sengoku spoke coldly, but inwardly, he was puzzled.

"Garp, why can't we sense where the enemy is?"

"Me neither… Could their Observation Haki be stronger than ours?"

Sengoku barked out an order:

"They must be hiding in the crowd! Anyone still standing is a suspect!"

Garp focused his attention, and Bogard did the same, scanning the surrounding area.

By now, Reid had already laid down on the ground, purely on instinct.

"Damn it… I just transmigrated and I'm already about to get myself killed?"

Lying among the crowd, his heart pounded with anxiety.

"Huh? What's going on?"

Roger looked down from the platform, confused. He couldn't tell what had just happened.

"Is that Rayleigh? Are they here?"

Roger glanced around, but even with his Observation Haki, he sensed no sign of Rayleigh or the others.

"Strange… I was supposed to die today. We agreed, no one would try to save me. I need to ensure Joy Boy has a chance to rise, to delay things and give him time to grow. That's why I must ignite the Great Pirate Era…"

Roger looked serious as he shouted down to Garp and Sengoku below, "Hey! Garp!

Sengoku! What are you doing down there?"

"Shut up, Roger! Is this your backup arriving?!" Garp turned and shouted angrily.

"Probably not."

"What do you mean 'probably'?! Baka yarou!" Garp cursed.

"Roger, you have to die today. No matter who comes, it's useless. Garp and I will both stop them."

"Relax, Sengoku. I want to die. Come up and kill me yourself."

"No, it has to be carried out by the executioners. This ceremony must follow protocol."

"Stubborn old fool. Sengoku, your sense of justice is really flawed. You follow orders too blindly."

"Shut your mouth, Roger. My justice doesn't need your approval."

Then Sengoku turned to Garp. "Let's interrogate everyone one by one."

"Mm." Garp nodded.

"Crap. I don't know what's going on, but I better run for now."

Doflamingo suddenly leapt into the air, using his String-String Fruit to escape on threads.

The remaining individuals like Moria also scattered and fled

"So there was a group working together!" Sengoku shouted.

"None of you are getting away!" Garp yelled, unsure who to chase first as people fled in all directions.

On a rooftop not far away, Dragon, who had been wearing a cloak, was observing everything in hiding.

"What's going on? Good thing I left early. Looks like someone's trying to shake things up. Maybe there's a chance to rescue Roger. The World Government clearly fears the secrets he knows."

Thinking that, Dragon quietly activated his powers, staying where he was.

"Who dares interfere with Roger's execution?! Do you think I'm some nobody?!" Garp charged forward, furious. After all, Roger was the pirate he had spent his life chasing. He couldn't let anyone ruin it now.

But deep inside, Garp was troubled. "Dragon… are you here too? Are you still hung up on what happened back then?"

"Vice Admiral Garp!" Bogard immediately followed.

"Hold on, Bogard! You stay here and watch Roger. I'll go with Garp. Contact the Navy and have them send in a new executioner!"

"Huh? Yes sir… Although I've always followed Vice Admiral Garp, what Admiral Sengoku says makes sense too."

Bogard swallowed hard. Despite having fought alongside Garp at the God Valley incident, it had been a long time since he felt this kind of tension.

Sengoku charged out after Garp. "Garp! That person's ability—could it be your son?!"

"Sengoku, stop following me. Go back and guard Roger!"

"I left Bogard there. The burst of Conqueror's Haki just now knocked out the entire town. I can sense only one person escaping now, everyone else has left Loguetown."

"Fine. As a Marine, I can't let Dragon do this. I need answers."

Garp's emotions were complex. He knew why Dragon turned against the Marines—it all started with God Valley.

"Why are Garp and Sengoku leaving? Did something happen just now? The wind seems to have picked up…" Reid muttered to himself.

He cautiously raised his head to look at Roger, heart pounding. "What's Roger doing? Now's a great chance, why isn't he escaping?! Wait… Roger chose to die. He has no reason to run."

Realization dawned, and Reid felt helpless.

"Right, the system said I have healing powers. If that burst of Conqueror's Haki worked, maybe I can actually cure Roger's disease. Could this be fate? The system called me the 'Child of Destiny.' There's no way this is just a coincidence…"

Reid carefully stood up.

"Who's there?" Bogard placed his hand on his sword, face stern.

"Help! My head is spinning… I'm a resident of Loguetown. My family passed out—can you help me?"

"I see. It's dangerous here. Take your family and leave quickly."

"I can't… I have no strength left. I don't even know what just happened."

"Fine, hurry up then."

Bogard ran over. "Where's your family?"

"System, help me! Use Garp's Iron Fist and knock him out!"

Reid shouted inwardly. Somehow, he summoned the courage and punched.

He was so close that Bogard had no time to react.

"Ah—!"

Bogard was blasted away by the punch and knocked unconscious.

"Such strength… Was that really Garp's power through the system?"

Reid was shocked.

"Right! Save Roger first! System, maintain Garp's abilities!"

Still not fully adapted, Reid could only shout commands in his mind.

He approached the execution platform, steadied himself, and jumped up, nearly slipping off the edge.

"Whoa… that was close."

"Who are you?"

Roger looked alert, having witnessed Reid's previous actions. He knew Bogard's strength from being chased by Garp for years.

And yet this young man had knocked him out with a single punch, he had to be powerful.

"No time to explain. Roger, let me save you first."

"No. I'm not leaving. If the Marines don't capture you now, you'll be executed for what you've done. Kid, don't get involved, it's not worth it."

"Don't worry, Roger. I'm a doctor. I can cure your incurable disease."

Roger's eyes flashed, then he burst into laughter. "Hahahaha! Kid, no one can cure my illness. You—"

He stopped mid-sentence, eyes widening. "Wait… How do you know I'm sick?"

Reid felt awkward. "That sounded like I just insulted myself..."

"Forget that. After I save you, you'd better help me escape. I'm risking everything here!"

Reid patted Roger's shoulder and shouted inwardly:

"Heal!"

A few seconds passed. Reid didn't feel anything, but he asked anyway. "Brother Roger, how do you feel now?"

Roger instinctively checked his body, his eyes lit up in shock. He was completely stunned. He knew he didn't have long to live, that's why he let himself be caught.

"I'm healed… I can feel it!"

"Yes, Brother Roger," Reid said firmly.

"Now hurry and get me out of here. I don't know my way around, and I'm really freaking out right now!"

Roger stared at the fascinating young man before him, unable to believe what had just happened.

"Hahahaha! You saved me. From now on, we're sworn brothers. Interested in joining my crew?"

Looking at the boy who had appeared out of nowhere, Roger was deeply moved.

Now, he had more time.
