Gem City is nestled around a dormant coastal volcano. During the Great Expansion, the gemstones erupted by the volcano shone like the brightest starlight on the night sea, hence the name.
The gemstones on the mountain surface of Gem City were excavated during the city's construction period; now the gemstone mines extend underground along the volcanic passageways. This has also given birth to an underground city where the poor reside, and the extremely dangerous secret realm instance "Underground Multi-Level Maze."
