William looked at Gauss, who had refused again, with a complex expression in his eyes; there was a mix of slight displeasure from being offended, a tinge of regret, and a frustration with his lack of progress.
"I understand. Goodbye." He turned to leave, but suddenly paused, turning his head to leave one last sentence.
"I hope one day in the future you won't regret the choice you made today."
With those parting words, William's figure blended into the harbor's crowd, disappearing from sight.
