Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Blade Wielder

"My instance reward can actually be self-selected? Is there something wrong here?"

Looking at the lines of reward options that resembled a menu, Wang Zhifan felt quite puzzled. From the original owner's memory he just fused with, he clearly knew that each player's reward for completing an instance was usually random. He had never heard of anyone being able to choose their own rewards.

"Hiss... it really hurts... I don't know if I can continue to choose if I leave the instance now, so to be safe, I'd better choose quickly and return."

Since his current physical condition was quite poor, and he might even risk falling into a coma again, Wang Zhifan didn't have the patience to read the reward descriptions line by line and quickly made his decisions.

"The highest level in these rewards is the rare-grade weapon, Wolf-Slaying Blade, which is just suitable for me, so I'll choose this one."

"The Wolf-Slaying Blade only lets you choose one? Then I'll add a piece of fine-grade armor... and finally, I'll take this..."

After quickly finishing his reward selection, Wang Zhifan found that the empty box next to him, which had already had its lid opened by someone, instantly contained the three items he chose.

After confirming that he had truly completed a self-selection of instance rewards, the next steps for Wang Zhifan were very simple.

He first transferred the blunted short knife grasped in his right hand to his personal space with his mind. Then he began to move his broken and painful body bit by bit to the chest containing the rewards nearby, and with difficulty extended a hand to touch each item, again using his mind to transfer them all to his personal space.

The personal space is a function every player can use. As a novice player, Wang Zhifan's personal space is relatively small, about one cubic meter in size, but it had no problem holding the three rewards he just chose by himself.

After completing this final task with difficulty and feeling dizzy and about to fall into a coma again, Wang Zhifan quickly used his mind to choose the return function on his panel.

When he issued this command, he was immediately engulfed by a sensation of being in a daze. When his consciousness became clear again, he found he was no longer under the blue sky wilderness but faced with an old gray-white ceiling. There was even a small spider casually crossing, leisurely crawling into a crack above.

"Feels like my body is completely back to normal. It's just that my clothes are still so tattered, but at least all the bloodstains have disappeared."

Quickly confirming that his once broken body was perfectly restored, Wang Zhifan soon sat up from the single bed he was lying on and began to check other aspects of his situation.

The first thing that caught his attention was his clothing, which had long been torn to shreds by an attack from that silver-gray giant wolf during the instance. Now that his body was completely restored, his clothes remained in tatters, only without the bloodstains previously covering them.

"According to the original owner's memory, it seems this outfit was also a piece of equipment..."

Without immediately dealing with the tattered cloth hanging from his body, Wang Zhifan started to check his player panel with his mind.

[Name: Wang Zhifan.]

[Status: Normal.]

[Level: Lv1.]

[Experience: 36/100.]

[Occupation: Bladesman.]

[Physique: 11.]

[Strength: 12.]

[Agility: 12.]

[Spirit: 11.]

[Skills: Basic Blade Technique Lv1.]

[Equipped: Cloth Armor (Common) (Damaged).]

[Personal Space: Wolf-Slaying Blade (Rare), Short Knife (Common) (Damaged), Wolfhide Armor (Fine Layer), Warrior Skill Upgrade Scroll (Fine Layer).]

As shown on this panel, the only thing Wang Zhifan was currently equipped with was a piece of damaged cloth armor, which were the tattered rags around him. He remembered that this already scrapped armor and that short knife in his personal space were both initial equipment he acquired after becoming a player.

Speaking of the original owner, who shared the same name as Wang Zhifan, becoming a player, it was quite a story. Unlike many players in this world who were suddenly granted this magical identity by some unknown great being one day, the original owner became a player by his own will, investing considerable financial resources and effort to find a channel and purchase a Player Professional Card.

Like player equipment, the Player Professional Card is also something that can be obtained from an instance treasure chest. For non-players, using it immediately grants player status and simultaneously assigns an initial profession.

It's important to know that those called by a mysterious great being to become players initially go through a step of selecting an initial profession. Every player can choose their initial path based on personal circumstances and desires, and those who become players by purchasing a Player Professional Card can do the same. However, this requires them to find someone willing to sell such cards and to be able to afford the price.

This is why Wang Zhifan now better understands why the original owner became a struggling throwaway soldier player. The Bladesman, a typical melee combat warrior class, faces undoubtedly high risks and pressure in instances; therefore, the price of such profession cards must have been relatively cheap, suitable for someone like the original owner with modest financial resources. Otherwise, becoming a firearms class player or another ranged profession would be a better choice.

"Bladesman... the drawbacks of this melee profession seem too great... but the original owner seems to have heard on the forums that some instances drop profession change cards. I'll choose to change professions when the opportunity arises."

Having already taken on the tough role of a melee combat throwaway, Wang Zhifan didn't worry too much about this aspect. After all, he still has opportunities for remedies in the future. Of course, this requires him to persist until then.

With thoughts in mind, Wang Zhifan transferred the tattered cloth armor on his body to his personal space and changed into the fine-grade wolfhide armor he selected earlier.

The equipment produced by instances typically has adaptive characteristics. When Wang Zhifan wore it, he found it extremely well-fitting, as if tailor-made. However, the hassle is that this silver-gray fitted wolfhide armor's warmth retention in this scorching season is somewhat unseasonal.

[Wolfhide Armor (Fine Layer)]

[This is a finely crafted wolfhide armor made from the rare fur of a silver-gray giant wolf. It not only has excellent warmth retention but also provides good protection against physical attacks like slashes and stabs. However, it is prone to damage when facing fire-based attacks.]
