Chapter 427 - Chapter 427: Hanzō vs. the Three Kage

Konoha Commanders' Main Tent.

"Ever since we agreed to ally with Amegakure, the pressure on us has drastically decreased."

Supreme Commander Nara Mikage looked at the battle reports from the front lines, too lazy to even show a smile.

It was indeed true—Hanzō of the Salamander's poison mist was invincible on the battlefield.

He alone could stop a group of enemy-village shinobi.

Greatly reducing the pressure on Konoha's forces.

This alliance could be said to have been the perfect match!

"Is there any news about the Eight-Tails jinchūriki?"

Renya didn't care about Hanzō's performance. He only wanted to capture the hidden Eight-Tails and bring it back to report to Madara-sama.

Killing a jinchūriki on the battlefield—no one would object to that.

But once the war ends, it won't be so easy.

He needed to capture a few tailed beasts now to keep Madara-sama satisfied, or else the old man would think he was plotting something.

The older someone got, the sharper they became.

Uchiha Madara was not as easy to fool as he looked.

Until he surpassed Madara in power, all he could do was delay for as long as possible.

Only after Madara completely lost his overwhelming strength could he strike back with a heavy blow.

Though picking on an elderly person wasn't honorable… but who told this elderly person to be Uchiha Madara?

Without some tricks, nothing could be achieved.

"Jōnin Renya, Kumogakure hasn't dispatched their jinchūriki recently."

Nara Mikage explained, "Possibly because the death of the Four-Tails jinchūriki has made them wary. They won't use a tailed beast unless the situation becomes critical…"

This matter was closely tied to Renya.

"Fine. If there's news, tell me immediately." Renya sighed helplessly.

Blue B was the Eight-Tails jinchūriki, yet he was acting like a coward on the battlefield.

If the man stayed hidden forever, how was he supposed to explain things to Madara?

If it came to it, he would have to sneak into Kumogakure's encampment.

"Not good, Commander!"

A messenger shinobi rushed into the tent, panic on his face.

"The Second Raikage, Third Mizukage, and Third Tsuchikage have appeared on the battlefield—they're currently fighting Hanzō of the Salamander!"

"What?!" Nara Mikage's expression instantly turned grave.

He knew Hanzō's poison mist posed a threat to the shinobi of other villages.

The three Kage joining forces clearly meant they intended to kill Hanzō!

Although Hanzō of the Salamander was a Kage-level powerhouse, facing three Kage at once was absolutely dangerous!

"Jōnin Renya, head there at once. You must save Hanzō of the Salamander."

Amegakure and Konoha were allies—they couldn't allow enemies to attack an ally unchecked.

Renya didn't hesitate. His figure vanished from the camp.

Seeing this, Nara Mikage did not relax. He turned to the messenger shinobi.

"Notify Sarutobi Hiruzen and Uchiha Kagami immediately. Have them support Jōnin Renya and Hanzō!"

Three versus two—Konoha did not hold the advantage.

He knew Renya was strong, but he didn't know exactly how strong.

To be safe, it was best to send two more.

After all, battlefield situations changed in an instant—no one could predict the next second.

Being cautious was never wrong.

...

Land of Rain, front-line battlefield.

The sky seemed forever shrouded by pale gray clouds and endless rainfall. The ground was muddy, filled with craters from jutsu blasts and scars corroded by poison mist.

At the center of the battlefield, an uneven struggle unfolded.

Hanzō of the Salamander was trapped in the toughest battle of his life, his sickle swinging endlessly while his summoned salamander Ibuse spat deadly toxin.

But under the combined assault of three Kage-level powerhouses, everything looked strained and desperate.

The Second Raikage had pushed his Lightning Release Chakra Mode to the extreme. He was like blue lightning—so fast he was barely visible.

Each of his explosive charges, fists wrapped in thunder, could split mountains. Hanzō was forced to dodge or block with full strength each time, drastically limiting his movements.

The Third Mizukage controlled Water Release, and the Rain Country's environment greatly amplified his power.

Or rather, this kind of environment most suited Kirigakure shinobi.

His powerful water techniques not only struck with immense force but continuously washed away and diluted the poison mist released by Ibuse, weakening it significantly.

And the most lethal threat came from the Third Tsuchikage Ōnoki, floating high in the air.

"Dust Release: Detachment of the Primitive World Technique!"

Every attack forced Hanzō to abandon advantageous positions and dodge at full speed, dodging death by inches.

"Tsuchikage, was your target just now me?"

The Third Mizukage glared coldly at Ōnoki.

If he hadn't dodged in time, the Dust Release would have hit him.

He had every reason to doubt that Ōnoki did it on purpose!

"Tsuchikage, stop using Dust Release. It's terrifying." the Second Raikage complained.

After all, their cooperation was temporary—they bore no real camaraderie toward one another.

If Ōnoki backstabbed them, they would die instantly.

"You two—stop talking nonsense!" Ōnoki roared, veins bulging. "Hurry up and finish Hanzō of the Salamander!"

If he had intended betrayal, they'd already be dead from a single Dust Release.

Why would he still be arguing here?

Hanzō panted heavily. His poison was powerful, but against the combined assault of three Kage-class shinobi, it was nearly useless.

His chakra was draining rapidly, and new wounds kept appearing.

Ibuse cried out painfully, its massive body covered in burns from lightning and deep cuts from Water Release.

"Hanzō, die! Your resistance is meaningless!"

Lightning crackled around the Second Raikage.

"Your poison is powerless before my Water Release."

The Third Mizukage encased the poison mist inside a sphere of water.

Ōnoki said nothing—he simply brought his hands together again, Dust Release forming rapidly.

Hanzō's pupils shrank. He felt death closing in.

Just as Ōnoki was about to fire, a kunai shot toward him at extreme speed.

He shifted to the side instantly to dodge.

Wait—this scene… looked familiar?

Far away, Uchiha Renya still held the throwing posture, a pair of crimson three-tomoe Sharingan calmly fixed on him.

In the next instant, Renya vanished—reappearing behind Ōnoki.

"You think the same trick will work on me twice?"

"Dust Release: Detachment of the Primitive World Technique!"

Ōnoki spun and released the beam of white light toward Renya.

"Bang!"

Renya's figure burst into smoke.

—Shadow Clone Technique!

Renya's real body appeared before Hanzō of the Salamander, stopping the attacks of both the Mizukage and Raikage alone.

"I thought you wouldn't show up on the battlefield."

The Second Raikage and Third Mizukage stared grimly at the long-haired man before them.

They had failed to kill Hanzō of the Salamander before Renya arrived.
