Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Opening Scene

Darkness.

Cold floors.

Silence.

Mechanical cracks.

A flicker.

A flicker again.

Bright Lights.

Silence.

Action–

Eight masked figures sit in a straight line in the middle of the theater's grand stage. They are confused, restrained. Each mask is identical, smooth white, with a bold number painted across the forehead: 1 through 8.

Two screens appear.

One with a mysterious figure.

One completely dark.

-System: "Masks on Performers, the Show is about to begin, You wouldn't wanna ruin your debut."

-P8: "Debut? Where are we? Is this some kind of sick joke?"

-System: "Allow me to set the scene,

I am the System, You all are the Actors of my show.

We are all trying to entertain 'The Audience'.

This is Show 1. Of 2.

The first show is simple.

To my right there are 8 roles."

Screen 2 lights the 8 Roles:

The Spy

The Ghost

The Murderer

The Detective

The Saver

The Judge

The Saboteur

The Lawyer

-System: "You will be presented with an envelope which contains your Role, your Goal, your Quirk.

In order to pass to the next stage you have to survive the next 5 days and complete your goal.

Simple enough?"

-P4: "What if I don't wanna play your freak show?"

-The System: "Well, aren't you cute one!!"

A loud silence.

A table entered the scene with a covered plate.

Silence.

Eerie.

The table moved on its own..

Silence.

A mechanical arm removed the cover.

Horror.

Disgust.

Looks fresh.

Eyes Watery.

A Human Head?

Opened— in half?

-System: "She was also a cute one, truly a shame."

No one spoke a word.

"Probably a bluff, something to scare us, I'll buy into it for now." thought player 3.

Table left the scene.

What just happened?

Cuffs released.

On their own?

An envelope slides under each player's chair.

On their own?

What's going on.

Player 4 sobs, ugly, the one that makes you breathe hard …

-System: "Oh don't be so scared."

Sweat.

Fear.

-System: "What you just saw wasn't all … you know … human"

Confusion.

-System: "Well the face was, and the bones, but not the brain."

Doubt.

-System: "For the brain, we put one of our own."

Player 5 smiled under the mask.

Is he crazy?

Player 8 in complete shock. Shouts for help.

Nothing.

Silence.

Still nothing.

A teardrop falls under player 1's mask.

Realisation.

-System: "We don't have all day"

Everyone reached down for their envelope.

Sloppy.

Player 1 opens the envelope, tries to read it, difficult with tears on his eyes—

The Spy:

Goal: Identify each alive player's role, report it on the last day.

Quirk: Has the ability to turn Invisible for 9 minutes(Thrice).

"Report everyone's role…" His mind raced. "I need to listen, disappear when necessary." But more than that, he knew he had to stay invisible—not just physically, but politically. 

Player 2 opens the envelope, childish, eyes bored—

The Judge:

Goal: Make the Murderer or Lawyer fail or die. If either fails/dies, the Judge passes.

Quirk: Can force a truth from a player once (No badge). Immune to the Murderer's attacks.

"Truth isan okayish weapon," he thought, excited. "Take out one of them? I'll take both."

Player 3 unwraps the envelope slowly, noble posture, calm resolve—

The Detective:

Goal: Discover three players' quirks.

Quirk: Can see every room at once—but cannot hear for 9 minutes (twice).

"I must watch silently. Observe without being observed." His eyes narrowed. "Knowledge is power, but it comes at a cost."

Player 4 sobs again, wiping her tears, naive but curious—

The Ghost:

Goal: Find the fake rule.

Quirk: Can listen to everything, even whispers for 9 minutes(thrice).

"If I just listen… maybe I can find it," she whispered to herself. "I hope the others are kind."

Player 5 smirks, confidence thick beneath the mask—

The Lawyer:

Goal: Protect the Murderer at all costs.

Quirk: Can plant a false memory in any player except the Judge (once), (Cannot influence a player to break the rules.).

"Just perfect. I hope they are both interesting" a villainous gleam in his eye. "Just watch me 'Audience'."

Player 6 shrugs, easily persuaded, distracted—

The Saver:

Goal: A player must pass because of you.

Quirk: Can swap a player's goal with one already known (once), (Can't put Lawyer's goal into Murderer.).

"I just need a bit of luck," he muttered. "I don't care how—I'll save anyone."

Player 7 narrows her eyes, sharp—

The Saboteur:

Goal: Make a player fail their goal.

Quirk: Can nullify all quirks of a player (once).

"One wrong move and they crumble," she grinned under her mask. "I'll take out the best."

Player 8 trembles, scared, barely holding it together—

The Murderer:

Goal: Kill one player (Can break the first rule to achieve it). Can't attack the Judge.

Quirk: Can silently communicate with the Lawyer for 9 minutes(twice).

"I didn't want this," he thought, voice shaking inside. "But I have to survive. I need his help." System: "Now, in order to prevent this being a cold blooded battle royale there are rules."

RULES:

All violence prohibited (unless badge allows it).

Badges should be carried at all times.

Players cannot miss a 'Date' or "Confession".

A player can request any favor from 'The Audience', if they are intrigued they may grant it.

If more than 5 players pass, 'The Audience' will vote out players until 5 remain. So be interesting.

Players cannot reveal their true identity, that means masks on, voice changers on.

Players cannot use quirks during Cafeteria time(12:00- 13:00).

"So one of these is fake?, I really hope it's not that one" Player 4 thought.

-System: "Before you ask questions, let me show you your daily activities."

ACTIVITIES(5 DAYS): 

Every Morning, 2 random 'Dates' will take place in the Date rooms (10:00- 10:10).

Every Noon, players can go into any one of the 2 cafeterias(12:00- 13:00).

Every Evening, players will gather here, in the Theatre as we watch a confession act played by a random player. The player may lie or tell the truth(20:00).

System: "You now have 30 minutes to introduce yourselves as we do our last camera check up, then I'll announce the first 'Dates'." 

"Are they not ready?" wondered Player 3.

He then used his quirk to see if he could find out anything.

What he saw was—

A room straight out of a horror movie.

Blood.

So much blood.

He screams.

Loud.

The silence that follows is even louder.

"He was calmer than the rest so far" — System

He didn't react to the Table.

What did he see?
