Three figures emerged from the shadows of the trees, their presence felt immediately—heavy and absolute, like judgment made flesh. Their attire gleamed under the dim light, radiant with an aura of unwavering purity. The first figure, a tall man, stood firm, his hand still gripping the gleaming spear. The divine weapon pulsed with residual light, the runes engraved along its shaft flickering like stars in the dark. His armor was ornate, gilded with golden edges, the white plates shining in stark contrast against the shadowy forest. A long mantle fluttered behind him like a holy banner, and his helm bore a vertical slit glowing faintly with divine energy. As he lowered the spear, the silent hum of holy power echoed in the air.
Beside him, a second man moved with purpose, his frame broader, more imposing. A sword rested at his side, radiating a celestial light that seemed to burn with the heat of a thousand suns. His armor, though simpler than that of the spearman, exuded an unsettling calm, worn by one who had faced death countless times and emerged victorious. His half-visor helm shielded his eyes, but the palpable aura of strength surrounding him was unmistakable.
The final figure was a woman—no weapon in hand, yet no less imposing. She wore flowing robes, white as the driven snow, threaded with intricate gold patterns that seemed to shift and shimmer like ancient scripture. Her hood was drawn back, revealing piercing eyes that burned with the clarity of unshakable faith. There was no need for a weapon in her hands; her very presence was enough. The very air around her seemed to hum with divine energy. Her voice, when it spoke, seemed to emanate from a place far beyond mortal understanding.
[Primal Awareness activated.]
Vergil, his instincts screaming in warning, turned and ran at once. His eyes scanned the three figures, and his primal awareness pulsed with an overwhelming wave of malice. The sensation sent a chill down his spine—a stark contrast to the overwhelming calmness of the trio before him. His only thought: Run.
[Seems like you got the end of the straw.]
Suddenly, dozens of light spears were launched, streaking toward Vergil with blinding speed. His body was already in motion, activating Shadow Dash to avoid the incoming spears. But despite his efforts, one spear grazed his face, leaving a deep cut, and another sliced across his stomach.
"Dammit, my stamina isn't enough for healing like this," Vergil cursed to himself, his movements growing sluggish as the injuries took their toll. Unlike the rhini, he'd faced earlier, these opponents' stats were far beyond his own, causing wounds that wouldn't be easily healed. They're too strong.
Vergil stumbled, the pain from his injuries flaring with each step. But he refused to stop. He couldn't afford to be caught.
[He's toying with you.]
'I know he is,' Vergil thought grimly as another spear of light shot toward him, this time too fast for his body to react. The spear punctured his leg, searing through his flesh with an agonizing hiss. Fuck! His body sizzled as the divine energy of the spear burned through him.
[It's damaging you more because you have demonic energy. Take it out and let your Verdant Regeneration deal with it.]
With a grunt of pain, Vergil ripped the spear from his leg, his blood spilling onto the ground as the energy began to course through his veins. But something strange happened—the blood was absorbed into his hand, twisting, as though the demonic energy was trying to claw its way out.
He reached the cliffside. The edge loomed before him, and panic surged through his chest.
"Shit!" Vergil muttered, his heart racing. This is it. No way out.
He turned and, with a burst of energy, tried to leap off the cliff—his only escape.
"Where do you think you're going?" The voice was chilling, cutting through the air like a blade. The man with the sword stepped forward, his eyes cold and unfeeling. Before Vergil could even make the jump, the man's sword pierced through Vergil's chest, the cold steel carving into his flesh with terrifying precision.
Vergil coughed blood, his vision swimming. He gasped for air, only to feel the man's hand gripping his face, scorching him with divine flames.
"You fucker," Vergil spat, his body writhing against the excruciating pain.
"Show me your true form," the man sneered, his voice thick with contempt.
Vergil's face was burned, his skin gone, flesh exposed in all its raw horror. But something stirred within him. The blood that poured out of his wounds turned pitch black as it was pulled into his hand. The Verdant Regeneration activated, but it wasn't enough to heal him completely. His body twisted, his true form surfacing as the darkness in his veins surged forth.
His left eye darkened, the power within him revealing itself. His hair turned jet black, the transformation undeniable.
"A half-breed," the man laughed, looking down at Vergil with disdain. "Pathetic."
Vergil's body spasmed violently, trying to break free from the man's grip, but it was futile. The pain was unbearable. He was trapped.
"Do you have any last words?" The man's voice was sharp, cruel, as he prepared to end it.

[... Of course.] the system said
[Ardeline Vaelither]
Vergil's vision blurred. He could feel the end drawing near, but there was one thing he had to do. I will not die here.
"Yeah... I got some" Vergil choked, his voice thick with fear and defiance.
The man sneered. "Go on."
Vergil's arm shot out, pointing toward his face.
"I'll kill you " he snarled, his words dripping with venom. "And then your wife Ardeline you fucker!"
With those final words, Vergil activated Limb Burst in his right arm, his arm exploding with force, sending the blast straight into the man's face.
The man stumbled backwards , his expression contorting with fury, but Vergil's body was already falling, sent careening over the edge of the cliff by a swift motion of the man's sword.
Vergil tumbled downward, blood staining the air as his body plummeted into the abyss below.
The man healed the small injuries with divine energy, a grimace of rage twisting his features. "You little bastard."
He raised his hand, summoning a light spear, ready to strike Vergil down from above.
Vergil, as the darkness claimed him, managed a smirk, his middle finger raised as his final defiance.
The light spear flew.
And Vergil was gone.
