Chapter 214 - Chapter 209: The Shadow of Death

In the rundown Happy Home apartment, Russell sat cross-legged on his bed, scrolling through material options on his phone.

Gold-level material [Military Intelligence System] (Blue).

"Not quite right," he muttered. He already knew what he needed for his final component, but filtering by 'system' and 'panel' attributes yielded limited results.

"As expected, these attributes are rare."

After more scrolling, one entry caught his attention:

Gold-level material [Mass-Produced Auxiliary System Panel (Incomplete)] (Purple).

"What kind of weird material is this?"

The details revealed it came from a secret realm called [The Failed Protagonist]. Every demon there carried this material in varying qualities. A warning note stated the realm was extremely fragile—a Diamond-rank cardmaker had once accidentally destroyed an entire sector with normal attacks.

"Why does this feel familiar?" Russell mused. "Whatever. It's perfect for my needs."

4,800 points vanished instantly.

"Broke again." Points evaporated faster than morning dew.

He spread out his three materials:

[Flesh-Eating Spider Demon] (Red)

[Grand Magus of the Curseheart Academy] (Red)

[Mass-Produced Auxiliary System Panel (Incomplete)] (Purple)

"Two Red quality. This better be worth it."

With steady hands, he sketched a cute white spider on the blank card. Behind it, a vague but hideous black shadow loomed ominously.

[Please begin story compilation.]

[In year 840 of the Kingdom Calendar, a small, inferior spider hatched in a corner of the Great Elroe Labyrinth's Upper Stratum. This spider retained clear memories of being a shut-in high school girl named Wakaba Hiiro, somehow reincarnated as a monster.]

[Reality was reality. Surrounded by danger, the spider—let's call her Kumoko—began her survival journey. Initially disgusted by strange creatures as food, survival instinct won. She discovered eating enough granted titles and bonuses.]

Not actually the [Gluttony] skill, Russell noted. That belonged to her "grandmother" Ariel. Like Rimuru's version.

[While surviving, Kumoko twice encountered the labyrinth's overlord, Earth Dragon Araba, who spared her for her weakness. Unwillingness sparked ambition. As a reincarnated being, she possessed a game-like system—gaining experience through killing to level up. After massacring giant monkeys, she evolved into a Small Poison Taratect.]

[Shortly after, she gained one of this world's most powerful Ruler skills: Pride. Driven to the Middle Stratum by Earth Dragon Kagna, she killed a lesser Fire Dragon, evolving into the rare Zoa Ele while gaining her second Ruler skill: Perseverance.]

[Perseverance granted Heresy Nullification—immunity to soul damage. Using this, she maxed Detection, receiving no expected reward. She acquired "Parallel Minds," allowing personality splitting for multitasking. After maxing Appraisal and complaining about no rewards, both skills merged into the Ruler skill: Wisdom.]

[Kumoko panicked. Wisdom wasn't a standard Ruler skill—someone was watching, an Administrator who'd tailored this for her. Her optimism prevailed. Wisdom was utterly broken.]

[She fought Fire Dragon Rend, half-crippled by her "mother" Queen Taratect, killing him successfully. A strange being appeared, but someone "called" them, prohibiting interference. Someone was definitely watching.]

[Affected by Queen Taratect's skills, she sent Parallel Minds to attack the queen's soul realm while hiding to evolve. Kumoko became Ede Saine, the "Shadow of Death," learning Spatial Magic. Time for revenge against Araba.]

The mysterious space suddenly rejected further writing.

"...Is Kumoko too overpowered?" Russell had planned to include Araba's death and gaining Sloth. Impossible now.

Reality returned. The card's glow made his heart skip.

"No way..."

He checked the information:

"This intensity..." Russell's eyes widened. Kumoko was numerical insanity meets mechanical bullshit—a hexagonal warrior who could fight, tank, and run. The space had nerfed Ruler skills to Gold level, but she remained broken.

Most importantly—the glow.

"Is this... Colored?"

The Red quality indicator shimmered with iridescent light, unlike any previous card.

"Not quite?" It seemed between Red and true Colored. "Why?"

The difference: Kumoko explicitly reached Palace level as [God • Shiraori]. His other cards lacked this ceiling statement.

"So Colored is Palace-exclusive? That explains the information blackout."

No Palace-rank would casually reveal card information.

He suppressed excitement. "But [Administrator's Gaze]? Surely Evil God [D] isn't actually..."

If [D] acted, the planet's survival would be questionable.

"Deal with it in East-Haven." Though exhausted, he'd return overnight.

Abandoned Factory - East-Haven

A "cute" medium-sized spider appeared before Russell. Medium compared to Queen Taratect—for humans, she was monstrous.

Man and spider stared silently.

Finally, Kumoko's internal monologue vocalized: "Why?"

Russell blinked. "What?"

Tears welled in her multiple eyes. "Why are you living so well, Russell? We're both reincarnated! Little Spider lived precariously every day! The lifestyle gap is unfair! Unfair! UNFAIR!"

The spider rolled dramatically on the factory floor.

Russell's eye twitched. "Keep it down. I don't need noise complaints."

Kumoko stopped instantly, raising her head proudly. "But I have [Stealth]! No one will notice! Nai wah~!"

"Continue and I'll cut your food rations."

"I WAS WRONG! I GOT CARRIED AWAY! PLEASE FORGIVE ME, MASTER RUSSELL!"

The foodie spider prostrated instantly.

Russell sighed. At his signal, Shadowkhan placed steaming meals before her.

"HUMAN FOOD!" Kumoko gazed at it like salvation. "This taste! So moving! No more raw monster meat!"

Russell patted her back as she devoured everything.

Soon, his expected guest arrived.

Zayne, Public Security Director.

Zayne's doubt shifted to the ferocious spider beside "Lux." The monster hissed threateningly.

"This presence..." Even stoic Zayne swallowed hard.

Vice President Russell's card wouldn't match this...

Russell, wearing his Lux persona, ignored Kumoko's mental comedy routine.

"I heard the Unification Sect took one of our bases?"
