Chapter 261: From this Day Forward, There Will Be No Totto Land!
"I'm here, Mama!" a cloud with curly golden hair chirped, and Big Mom leaped onto its back, soaring into the sky. It was Hera. Zeus... had mysteriously vanished during the last Tea Party. She was sure that sneaky little apprentice from the Roger Pirates was responsible, but she couldn't prove it. Whatever. With the power of the Soul-Soul Fruit, I can make as many Homies as I want.
"INDRA!" she roared, and Hera's form darkened to a malevolent purple, crackling with blinding lightning. The cannonballs that had been flying toward them were instantly vaporized in the ensuing thunderstorm. "You think that's enough to threaten my fleet?!" she cackled.
"Napoleon! Prometheus!"
"We're here, Mama!"
Her bicorne hat leaped from her head and transformed into a massive, sharp-edged cutlass. At the same time, a miniature sun rose from her shoulder, its laughing face merging with her hair, which erupted into a mane of fire.
The thundercloud laughed, the fire laughed, the sword laughed, and Big Mom laughed loudest of all. "MAMAMAMA! So you're the one leading the charge, are you, Kuma?! Let me tell you something! When I decide I want something, no one in this world can take it from me!!!"
...
"That fat old hag," Zoro grumbled, covering his ears. "She screeches like a pig being slaughtered."
"She's the strongest woman in the world. She's earned the right to screech," Sanji said, lighting a cigarette. "If you don't like it, why don't you go shut her up with your swords?"
Me? Fight Big Mom? Zoro thought, his eye twitching. I'm not Jack.
But just then, his expression changed. As a swordsman, his intuition was screaming at him. An unbelievably powerful sword intent was gathering on the sea... That old hag... is a swordmaster?
"ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME, KUMA?!" her voice, now a furious, insane roar, echoed from the thundercloud. "HOW DARE YOU IGNORE ME! THEN LET'S SEE YOU TAKE THIS!!!"
She raised her sword, and the lightning and fire behind her roared to life. In that moment, she was no longer a woman, but a god of greed and wrath. The very air seemed to freeze. The pirates on both fleets stared in awe at the massive figure in the sky.
"MAMA! MAMA! MAMA!" the Big Mom pirates roared, their morale soaring.
But then—
"Heh."
A quiet, casual laugh cut through the din. It was so soft, yet it seemed to echo in everyone's ears, and a sudden chill ran down the spines of the Charlotte family pirates. The cheering stopped.
"Charlotte Linlin."
Shane was now standing at the very tip of the ship's figurehead, his black coat whipping in the wind. He looked up at the figure in the sky, his voice calm and cold. "An Emperor of the Sea... and you're picking on my subordinates? Isn't your opponent supposed to be me?"
He held up his hand, five fingers outstretched. "Five minutes. That's your final warning. Give me back Bonney. Or else..."
"From this day forward, there will be no Totto Land."
The words were spoken without emotion, yet they carried a weight, an authority, that was absolute.
The Big Mom pirates' faces went pale. The Curtain Call crew, on the other hand, stared at their captain's back, their eyes burning with a fanatical devotion. From this day forward... there will be no Totto Land!!!
"MAMAMAMA!!!" Big Mom's laughter was now a shriek of pure rage. "Don't get cocky, you little brat!!! Just because you killed a few Celestial Dragons, you think you can stand on my level?! Do you have any idea who you're talking to?!"
"Am I?" Shane said with a smirk, his hand moving to the hilt of his sword. "Don't believe me? Let's find out."
VWOOM!
The moment he drew his blade, an invisible shockwave erupted from him. The sky, which had been clear just a moment before, was suddenly filled with roiling, dark clouds. The sea churned, and a hundred-meter-tall tsunami rose from the depths, crashing toward the Big Mom fleet.
"This is..." Katakuri's eyes went wide, his Haki screaming a warning. He drew his trident and roared, "All hands! Brace for impact! Focus all your will! Resist!!!" But it was too late. The wave of Conqueror's Haki, more powerful than anything he had ever felt, washed over them.
"You little brat!" Big Mom roared, unleashing her own Haki to meet his.
CRACK!!!
The clash of their wills was a physical force, but it was clear that one was superior. A significant portion of Shane's Haki tore through her defense and slammed into her fleet.
"Uaaargh—"
"Mama... save..."
Pirates fell in waves, thousands of them collapsing in an instant. Even the officers with bounties in the tens of millions were on their knees, struggling to breathe. Of the thirty-five-thousand-strong grand armada... less than a third were still conscious. In a single instant, their morale and their numbers had been shattered.
"Mamamama!" Big Mom's smile was now a rictus of pure, unadulterated fury, her eyes bloodshot. Her Haki... had been overpowered by a mere child? Impossible! Unacceptable!!!
"You've gotten old, Linlin," Shane's cold voice came from below. "Don't get so worked up. If you can't calm yourself down... I'll do it for you."
SHINK!!!
He drew his sword completely, and a slash of black-and-red light, so massive it seemed to tear the very fabric of the world, shot toward her.
"Divine Departure!"
"Emperor's Sword: Ikoku Sovereignty!!!" Big Mom roared, meeting his attack with her own.
BOOOOOOOM!!!!!!
The sea exploded in a hemispherical shockwave thousands of meters wide. Ships were tossed into the air like toys, and even the massive Queen Mama Chanter was nearly capsized.
When the smoke cleared, Big Mom had been thrown back a hundred meters, a look of shock on her face. "That attack... I've never seen you use it before, boy!" It's so familiar... but I can't place it...
"Mamamama! Now that's more like it, kid! It seems I'll finally get a good workout today!" She was furious, but also... excited. A battle of pure swordsmanship... she had been outmatched. But... she was the user of the Soul-Soul Fruit, and her body was a fortress of steel. The real fight... was just beginning.
"My sons! My daughters! All who bear the name Charlotte!" she roared, pointing her sword at the enemy fleet. "Full-scale assault! The brat Shane is mine! The rest of them... show them the terror of Totto Land!!!"
"OOOOOH!!!"
With a final, desperate cheer, the tattered remains of the Big Mom fleet charged forward.
