Chapter 250: The World is Shaken
"An order from the Five Elders themselves?" Morgans's voice was a picture of feigned humility. "In that case, I..." He dropped his pistol and took a step forward, as if to surrender. Then his eyes glinted. "...I'd be a fool to go with you!"
CLICK!
The walls of his office opened up, revealing dozens of hidden gun barrels.
RAT-TAT-TAT-TAT!
The CP-0 agents scrambled to defend themselves. When the smoke cleared, the room was empty. An open tunnel was hidden under the desk. From the depths, Morgans's maniacal laughter echoed. "You'll have to do better than that to catch me! HAHAHAHA!"
"Dammit!" the lead agent snarled, slamming his fist on the desk. He noticed a pile of papers and snatched them up. His face went pale. On the top was a draft of the next day's headline:
The live broadcast may have been limited, but the newspapers... the newspapers reached everyone. And in the days that followed, the world was shaken to its very core.
In a barbecue restaurant in the Goa Kingdom, a man was whispering to his friends. "Did you hear? That Shane guy, the one from the East Blue, he killed..."
"Shut up, you fool!" his friend hissed, looking around nervously.
"What's there to be afraid of?!" an old man with a peg leg slammed his fist on the table. "Have you forgotten?! When those bastards burned down the Gray Terminal to welcome that... that whatever-his-name-was Celestial Dragon, did they care about us?! Now someone has finally given them what they deserve! I'll drink to that, even if they hang me from the city walls tomorrow! To Lord Shane!"
A chorus of cheers went up around the restaurant.
In the kitchen, a certain straw-hatted boy, still wearing his Sea-Prism Stone cuffs, was listening with a wide grin. Big Brother Shane... sounds like he's gotten into some serious trouble again. So cool...
In a G-rogue Marine base on the Grand Line, Aokiji was reading the paper, a frown on his face.
"Kuzan!" a familiar, feminine voice came from his Transponder Snail. "You've heard, haven't you? The Sabaody incident... Smoker... that idiot... he's a true criminal now... there's no turning back..."
"Hey, Hina," he said, his voice low. "You know... that Shane kid... he tried to recruit me, too..."
"KUZAN! Don't you dare joke about something like that!"
"Arara, just a joke..." he said, hanging up. He stared at the picture of Shane in the paper, at the defiant, triumphant look in his eyes. Have you really gone that far? he thought. Maybe... it's time for me to start fighting for my own justice, too... Sengoku-san is getting old...
On Kuraigana Island, Mihawk set down the newspaper. "Not bad," he said, a rare, almost imperceptible smile on his face. "Tashigi, more tea." There was no reply. He looked around the empty castle. Oh, right. She's gone. He picked up the paper again and found her in a small photo in the corner of one of the pages, standing behind her idol. He took a final sip of his tea. "Not bad at all."
In the depths of Impel Down, a new batch of prisoners was being processed.
"Buggy the Clown," Magellan said, reading from a file. "A former member of the Roger Pirates. Escaped from Whole Cake Island a few months ago, bounty 300 million. Captured on Sabaody after his ship was destroyed by a meteor."
Roger's crew? a sadistic smile spread across the face of the head jailer, Shiliew of the Rain.
"Cavendish the 'Pirate Prince,' and Bellamy the 'Hyena,'" Magellan continued. "Both Supernovas, both captured on Sabaody. All of them... connected to that man."
"Ah, yes," Shiliew said, a low chuckle in his voice. "Even down here, we've heard of him. To kill four of those bubble-headed pigs in front of the whole world... if I ever get tired of this job, I think I'd like to work for a boss like that. Maybe I'd even get to kill a pig or two myself."
"Shiliew, watch your mouth," Magellan growled.
"Who's going to stop me?" he sneered.
On Amazon Lily, Elder Nyon hobbled into the Empress's chambers. "Hancock! Where are my newspapers?! I heard you sent for them!"
She stopped short. On the sofa, a slender, beautiful figure was curled up in a ball, clutching a newspaper to her chest.
"Lord Shane..." she was whispering in her sleep, a blissful, lovesick smile on her face. "Yes... that look... that look of utter disgust... please... look at me with those eyes again..."
"???"
Elder Nyon rubbed her eyes, then stared in disbelief. Her jaw dropped, and her staff clattered to the floor.
