Chapter 230 - Chapter 230: The Death of Blackbeard, the Shop Refreshes

Chapter 230: The Death of Blackbeard, the Shop Refreshes

Divine Departure!

Blackbeard recognized the attack instantly. He'd seen it from both Roger and Shanks. And this kid's... was every bit as powerful.

"Dammit!" he thought, a cold sweat breaking out on his forehead. He desperately beat his wings, trying to dodge, but it was no use. The overwhelming pressure of Shane's Conqueror's Haki had him locked in place, and he could only watch as the crimson slash descended.

"You've got to be kidding me!" At the brink of death, a furious, desperate power erupted from the depths of his soul. "I'm the man who's going to surpass him and become King of the World! I can't die here!!!"

VWOOM!

An invisible shockwave of black-and-red lightning, twisted and violent, tore through the oppressive air, and in that split second, he managed to dodge.

SCHLICK!

The blade grazed him, slicing off half a wing. He grunted in pain, but didn't look back. He just kept flying, pushing himself to his absolute limit. This kid... he's too strong. Even with my new Haki... I can't beat him. Not until I have the Dark-Dark Fruit and the Tremor-Tremor Fruit. I have to run! Just you wait... one day, I'll repay this humiliation a thousand times over!

"You think you can run?" Shane sneered, shooting after him.

BOOM!

A golden palm of light slammed down from the sky, forcing him back.

"Sengoku! Have you had enough?!" Shane roared. The golden Buddha was hovering above the sea.

"That's far enough, Shane! Marshall D. Teach is... a special case. He cannot die at your hands," the Fleet Admiral's voice boomed. "However, as compensation, if you let him live, Marine Headquarters can..."

"Compensation?" Shane laughed, his voice dripping with scorn. "How interesting. The man you call a pirate is trying to punish a villain, and the Fleet Admiral of the Marines is protecting him... The Buddha, Sengoku? You're nothing but a dog of the Celestial Dragons! What right do you have to speak of justice?!"

With a roar, he didn't bother going around. He charged straight at the golden Buddha. You like blocking my path? You like being big? Then you can be my weapon!

"Foolish!" the golden Buddha roared, slamming his palms together. "Buddha's Shockwave!"

A torrent of pure golden energy, imbued with a soul-crushing spiritual pressure, shot toward Shane. "That's not enough to stop me!" he laughed, meeting it head-on. He tore through the shockwave and, to Sengoku's astonishment, grabbed the giant's arms. He spun him around in a perfect arc and, with a final, mighty roar, threw him.

"THE SHOW STOPPER!"

The golden Buddha became a golden meteor, crashing down upon the fleeing Blackbeard.

BOOOOM—!!!

The impact was cataclysmic. The G-14 fortress, already in ruins, collapsed completely.

...

In the churning sea, Blackbeard's broken body floated on the surface. "Zeh... hahaha..." he coughed up blood, a manic grin on his face. "I'm... still alive..."

"Sorry. No, you're not," a calm voice said. Shane was standing on the water in front of him. He slowly drew his katana.

"No, no, no..." Blackbeard's eyes filled with terror. "Wait... Shane... we don't have to be enemies! I can help you! Help you take down Whitebeard... help you become the strongest..."

"A truly pure villain," Shane said, shaking his head.

SWISH!

He ran his blade through Blackbeard's chest, then twisted it. A joke. Crocodile, Doflamingo... they had all fought to their last breath. This man, with the strength of a Yonko commander... had cowered and begged. He wasn't a hero. He wasn't even a proper villain. He was just a clown.

Shane was about to sheathe his sword when he noticed something. He sliced open the man's chest. Huh. Three hearts. One was shredded, but the other two were still faintly beating. So that's his secret. He destroyed the other two hearts, then, just to be sure, cut off his head and checked the Marauder's Map. [No results found for "Marshall D. Teach."]

Good.

The world was now, finally, free of Blackbeard. The Summit War would never happen. Ace would not die. A fitting end for the son of Rocks, a man who had betrayed his "father" for his own ambition, only to be killed by another young upstart. It was... ironic.

...

"And what's even more ironic is you, Sengoku," Shane said, turning to the golden Buddha, who was now clutching his chest in pain. The Show Stopper, designed to do more damage to larger opponents, had hit him hard. "I told you. You can't stop me."

"Shane!" the golden Buddha roared, his eyes burning with rage. "You've killed a Warlord candidate and destroyed a Marine base! Are you declaring war on us?!"

"You started it," Shane shrugged. "And that truce... that was a deal with the Holy Land. Do you really have the authority to break it?"

Sengoku was speechless. He didn't. He was a "mere" Fleet Admiral. The Five Elders had made it clear: they wanted to use Shane to destabilize the New World, to have him clash with the other Emperors while they watched from above. It was a foolish, shortsighted plan, but he was powerless to stop it.

"Then let's fight, Shane!" he roared, his golden aura flaring. "This is between you and me! For the honor of the Marines, I will take you down here and now!"

"I've already achieved my goal. And fighting an old man like you? I'm not interested," Shane said with a shrug. This old fox was just trying to stall for time, to wait for reinforcements to arrive. "Not interested, not fighting, I'm leaving!"

"Stop!" Sengoku lunged at him.

"You're in my way," Shane said with a laugh, meeting his attack with a Haki-infused kick that sent the golden Buddha stumbling back. By the time he'd recovered, Shane was gone.

"Dammit..." Sengoku cursed, his frustration boiling over as he watched a certain red airship with "WE NEWS" emblazoned on its side leisurely float away.

In the following days, the news of Marshall D. Teach's death swept the globe. The public's reaction was... muted. Who was Marshall D. Teach? A traitor from the Whitebeard pirates? Okay. But the real story was that the new Emperor of the Sea, Shane, had stormed a Marine base and fought the Fleet Admiral himself to a standstill just to kill him. The Marines had once again been publicly humiliated, and Shane's reputation had grown even more fearsome.

A few days later, on a quiet morning aboard The Curtain Call.

"Ah, it's finally refreshed!" Shane woke up, stretched, and opened the Trade Market. A wide grin spread across his face. It was his third-favorite time of the month. Time to go shopping.
