Chapter 211: The World Shatters
"Thunder Bagua" was, at its core, just Kaido's basic attack. It was the insane amount of Conqueror's Haki he coated it with that made it powerful enough to shatter the dreams of aspiring emperors.
"Conquest of the Three Worlds: Ragnarok," however... that was one of his true ultimate techniques.
"Finally getting serious, Kaido?!"
A grin split Shane's face. He met the terrifying, lightning-wreathed club not by dodging, not by blocking, but by throwing his arms wide with a wild laugh. Last year at Enies Lobby, his ultimate technique, "Godslayer," had been stopped by Kaido's bare chest. The sheer, raw power of that body had been staggering.
Now, times had changed... and it was his turn to return the favor.
BOOM—!!!
The club, crackling with purple, black, and red lightning, slammed into Shane's chest with the force to shatter a mountain.
THUD!
With a grunt, Shane's massive body was sent flying like a broken kite. He smashed through a dozen rock formations before finally crashing into the top floor of a magnificent castle a thousand meters away, obliterating a dark-clothed queen who was muttering to her mirror. The room collapsed in a cloud of dust and debris.
For a moment, the story world fell silent.
Kaido landed on the ground below the castle, his eyes narrowed as he stared into the dust cloud. A moment later...
CRACKLE!
The castle trembled, and a five-meter-tall giant leaped from the ruins, clutching his chest and screaming, "Owww! That really, really hurt! I think I'm gonna die!"
"Cut the crap!" Kaido roared, pointing his club at him, a vein throbbing on his forehead. "There's not a damn thing wrong with you!"
"Oh, you saw through me?" Shane emerged from the dust, his form becoming clear. He casually rolled his neck and looked down at the bloody, caved-in mess on his chest. "Still, it wasn't pleasant. That club of yours hits a lot harder than Kizaru's little light-saber."
Kaido's physical strength, even without his dragon form, was among the best in the world. But so what? Shane had spent nearly a decade forging his own body in the furnace of his unique training method. His own physical prowess was at its absolute peak. An ultimate technique of this level... just as he'd expected, he could take it head-on.
"Worororo! There's a limit to arrogance, you little punk!" Kaido sneered, his grip tightening on his club. "Go on, then! Keep taking my attacks with your body! Who the hell do you think you are?! Joy Boy?!"
Even Joy Boy couldn't do that... The absolute confidence in one's own body, the disdain for an opponent's attacks... that had always been his trademark! When did someone else get to act like that?! The frustration was boiling in his chest, and he needed to let it out. He took a deep, guttural breath, and a searing heat began to build in his throat—
"BORO BREATH!!!"
A pillar of fire, meters in diameter, erupted from his mouth. The ground and the ancient castle were instantly incinerated, revealing the blurry, purple-black sky of the story world behind them.
"So you can use that move without transforming, huh?" Shane said, intrigued. Then he laughed, and instead of dodging, he charged straight into the flames.
He kicked his way through the inferno, his black hair whipping wildly in the heat. In the instant he had created an opening, he was in front of Kaido, his left fist, larger than a normal man's head, rocketing toward Kaido's face.
"Your club is nothing special!" Shane roared with laughter. "Now it's your turn to taste one of my full-power attacks, Kaido!"
At that moment, a cross-shaped glare of crimson light ignited on his fist, so bright it illuminated the entire shattered sky.
That move is...
Kaido's pupils contracted.
"GALAXY... IMPACT!"
CRUNCH!
The sickening sound of his cheekbone caving in and his nose breaking echoed through the air. Blood sprayed from Kaido's nostrils, and he was sent flying backward. But even as he was hurtling through the air, he twisted his body and threw his club at Shane.
"ROARING THUNDER BAGUA!!!"
The sudden attack forced Shane to cross his arms to block. The impact sent him skidding back, his feet carving deep trenches into the scorched earth. Before he could recover, Kaido was on him again, descending from the sky like a demon god, grabbing his club and bringing it down with a thunderous roar.
"Too slow!" Shane snarled. He sidestepped the attack and grabbed Kaido's right wrist, driving a knee into his arm. With a sickening crack, Kaido's arm bent at an unnatural angle. But the monster just laughed and, using the momentum, swung his left elbow at Shane's temple.
"Worororo! That was just a feint, you little punk! You fell for it!"
The blow was unavoidable.
THUD!
The impact tore a chunk of skin from Shane's temple, and his vision blurred for a split second. But only a split second.
His eyes snapped open, and with a savage grin, he wrapped his arms around Kaido's waist, his muscles coiling like a volcano about to erupt.
"GET... WRECKED!!!"
BOOM!!!
The five-meter giant suplexed the seven-meter monster into the ground. The shockwave was so immense that the already-fractured story world finally gave way. The ground around the castle shattered like a mirror, and they both fell into the darkness below, the sound of the wind rushing in their ears as if they were plummeting into a bottomless abyss...
Outside, the crowd was staring intently at the flickering text on the book when a burst of flame suddenly consumed a dozen pages before extinguishing itself.
"Whoa! What was that?!" Bonney and Nami yelped.
Big Mom shot a glare at Mont-d'Or.
"It wasn't me, Mama! Their fight was too intense! It destroyed that chapter of the story world!" he cried, then quickly added, "But don't worry, this is my biggest book! There are still plenty of worlds left for them to wreck..."
"Is that so? You'd better hope so," Big Mom sneered. They'd only been fighting for an hour. This clueless son of hers had no idea how long a battle between monsters at the top of the world could last.
The fall continued... then, in the next second—
VWOOM!
Blinding neon lights, the roar of engines, the blare of horns, and the din of a massive crowd flooded their senses. Shane opened his eyes to see that he was falling through the night sky toward a modern city, a forest of steel skyscrapers below, the streets filled with streams of cars and swarms of ant-like pedestrians.
"Oh? The next chapter, huh?" Shane said, a nostalgic look on his face. "What kind of folk tale is this? It looks a lot like Earth." But it wasn't that surprising. In a world with countless islands at vastly different levels of technological development, anything was possible.
BOOM!
They both crashed into a wide street, shattering the asphalt and sending a dozen cars flying. The pedestrians screamed and scattered.
"Worororo!! Interesting! What the hell is this place?!" Kaido did a kip-up, wiping the blood from his lip as he looked around. He was used to jumping from a height of 10,000 meters. A little fall like this was nothing.
Shane, on the other hand, took a moment to get up. He grabbed a nearby truck with one hand and, with a savage grin, threw it at Kaido, who was staring up at a giant screen on the side of a building. "What's so interesting to look at?! Now's not the time to get distracted, Kaido!"
CRASH!
The truck barely made Kaido stumble. He grunted in annoyance and swung his club, sending Shane flying into a red-and-white television tower. The tower bent and snapped, then dissolved into a shower of blurry cubes. The screens on the surrounding buildings, which had been broadcasting the news, all turned to static.
"So it's the same as the last world, huh?" Shane said, stepping out of the wreckage. He finally got a good look at the "pedestrians." They were all wearing the same few outfits, their models repeated over and over again like a copy-paste job. And they were all low-poly, with no facial features to speak of.
