Chapter 88 - Chapter 88: Regeneration Serum

Chapter 88: Regeneration Serum

Morgans?

Sounds like the president of the World Economic Journal.

Kuina was thoughtful. She had always been a little curious about how, in many ways, Lord Shane's knowledge of the world far surpassed her own, even though she had been an avid reader since childhood and had a well-informed teacher like her father.

"Oh, right," Kuina suddenly remembered something and pulled a wanted poster from the stack. "This is also pretty strange. For some reason, it seems Marine Headquarters thinks this guy is part of our crew too."

"Smoker?"

Shane frowned slightly.

It was funny, really. After he had publicly executed Onigumo, the Marines on the island had shown two completely different reactions.

Those under Onigumo's direct command had run for their lives, while the Marines from the Loguetown branch had been grateful. In the end, they had even worked together to rescue the wounded in the houses on both sides of the square.

However, they had never seen their own commanding officer, Smoker. He had completely vanished, as if he had evaporated into thin air.

It wasn't until later, when he read the newspaper, that Shane learned that a man named Altai had also been on Onigumo's warship and had been killed by Smoker on the spot.

For a Marine, that was an unforgivable act of treason.

But to be inexplicably labeled as part of his crew…

It was probably because the two incidents had happened at the same time and in the same place, and were closely related. And Smoker had left Loguetown afterward.

So, Marine Headquarters had mistakenly assumed he had boarded Shane's ship.

"Don't worry about him," Shane said, shaking his head. The next time they both appeared in different places, Marine Headquarters would realize they weren't together, and they would issue separate wanted posters.

Speaking of which, he remembered Smoker as being hot-tempered and independent, but he had always had a strong sense of belief in and belonging to the Marines.

To push a guy like that to the point where he would kill a king, even if it meant leaving the Marines, was no small feat. He wondered what had happened on that warship.

THUMP! THUMP! THUMP!

A dull, rhythmic thudding came from the silver wolf figurehead at the bow.

"I'm telling you, Nami," Shane said, looking over with a deadpan expression. "Are you still at it? It's been several minutes. Haven't you let out enough steam yet?"

"Marine Headquarters! Marine Headquarters!!!" Nami gritted her teeth, pounding the head of the statue that looked so much like Gin. "Aaaah! Stupid Gin! I'm so mad!!"

Gin, a mere pet, had a bounty of eighty million Berries.

And she, the captain's sister, had only gotten eight thousand!!!

Exactly one ten-thousandth of Gin's bounty! It was an outrageous insult! Who could stand it?!

Are the Marine intelligence agents all a bunch of idiots? Didn't they notice that I was helping out during the Loguetown Incident?

So many of the Captain-ranked officers who came to provide support were stopped by my flames, but in the end, they didn't even realize I was a Devil Fruit user!

"Just let her be," Shane finally decided to ignore her and asked, "How much longer until we reach Reverse Mountain?"

"Not long now," Kuina said, looking up at the distant, towering Red Line, which was now faintly visible on the horizon. "Tomorrow. If all goes well, we can prepare to cross Reverse Mountain at dawn tomorrow."

We're finally entering the Grand Line…

She was a little emotional. When she had set sail, she had never imagined that she would become a "great pirate" with a bounty of over seventy million Berries before even crossing Reverse Mountain.

As for the captain…

Tsk. A small part of her was looking forward to seeing the looks on the faces of the pirates in the Grand Line when they confidently surrounded their rookie crew, only to find out that their captain had a bounty of one hundred and eighty million…

Shane had no idea what was going through her mind. After he finished reading the newspaper and made sure he hadn't missed any useful information, he opened the System panel and began to browse.

At the very top was the latest sacrifice information from a few days ago.

[You have sacrificed Roger's execution platform and received 18,000 points.]

[You have sacrificed Hunt's severed arm and received 300 points.]

[You have sacrificed Onigumo's flying dragon helmet and received 1,000 points.]

[Current remaining points: 48,600]

Roger's execution platform had yielded a whopping eighteen thousand points, second only to Luffy's genuine straw hat. It was a worthy reward for the half-hour Shane had spent searching for it at the bottom of the sea on the night they set sail.

As for Hunt's severed arm, he had gotten it from one of the four Rear Admirals he had tied up.

Since these guys had attacked him, they had to be prepared to pay the price. So, he had cut off one arm from each of them as a warning, and also to see if there was any "wool" to be sheared.

Unfortunately, only Hunt was a named character from the manga.

Shane vaguely remembered him.

A user of the Dog-Dog Fruit, Model: Hound. In the original timeline, six years from now, he would be one of the eight Vice Admirals who accompanied Saint Jaygarcia Saturn to Egghead to eliminate Vegapunk and the Straw Hat crew.

As for the low-ranking Marines, they had run away fast enough that he hadn't bothered to chase them down.

And the pirates who had been knocked out in the square had all been taken into custody by the Loguetown branch.

"Almost fifty thousand points just like that…"

Looking at his point balance, Shane downed the rest of his cocktail, feeling very satisfied.

He opened the marketplace. When you have money, you should spend it. If he remembered correctly, the marketplace had just refreshed a few days ago. It was a good time to see if there were any suitable items for him.

[Konoha's Hokage Rock]

Type: Wonder

Price: 5,000 Points

Description: The massive mountain range behind the Hidden Leaf Village, carved with the faces of the successive Hokage. Currently updated to the Sixth.

Seller's Note: Just dug it up. If you have a big enough house, you can put it in your living room. Any takers?

Shane ignored it and swiped to the next item.

He could afford five thousand points, but it wasn't worth it at all…

Who the hell builds a Wonder this early in the game?!

[Piccolo's Regeneration Serum]

Type: Special Item

Price: 7,000 Points

Description: A special serum from Piccolo Jr. of the Dragon Ball world. After injection, you will gain the ability to regenerate. Any part of your body, except for your head, can be quickly repaired at the cost of your own energy. The amount of energy consumed is proportional to the weight of the repaired body part.

Seller's Note: This stuff is really hard to steal. Huh? There's a round iron ball that just fell in front of me. I should go check it out.

Regeneration Serum?

Shane's eyes widened with desire. He immediately added it to his cart.

To hesitate for even a second would be a disrespect to the great Demon King Piccolo!

With the enhancement of the Flesh-Melting Furnace Art, his body was already monstrously tough.

But even someone as strong as Aokiji could have his leg broken, and Whitebeard could have half his head blown off. Who could guarantee that they wouldn't lose a limb in a future battle with a powerful enemy?

"It only costs a little bit of energy, and it can repair any part of my body except for my head?"

Shane stroked his chin thoughtfully. He could go to the training room later and test it out in private.

The only question is, where should I start?

He subconsciously looked down at Sabo.

Translator's Note: The author mentions "Sabo" as a euphemism for the male anatomy here.
